SFMM 2009 - Terminator Salvation: The Ride

Since we know SOMETHING is coming, this should be the thread to post any developments, rumors AND predictions about the 2009 "family" coaster.

Screamscape seems to think a wooden coaster is on the way. What do you think?

I wouldn't mind erasing the mistake known as Psyclone with a new wood addition.

While giving his keynote speech at the ACE banquet, Mark Shapiro let it slip that Magic Mountain would be getting a new wooden GCI coaster next year. He said it would be themed to the movie "Terminator Salvation."

Could the Evel model be the next generation of Cyclone sized wooden coasters?

As much as I would hate for it be cloned to death, it is such a good ride that there is no reason why they wouldn't

Could SFMM squeak by with a Terminator theme if they painted the coaster white/gray? That could simulate the Terminators driving through a war zone/wasteland of crushed machines.

I like the GCI Wooden Coaster but the Terminator theme... eh, Not only does it not fit with the theme but also it shows no judgement or intelligence on the guests. Like at Great America with an Indoor Wild Mouse and an Outdoor Spinning Wild Mouse.

^ We should probably wait and see what they come up with first. It's all been rumors and speculation thus far. I am happy to see a new wooden coaster come to California though. It's long overdue.

Bummer to hear about a GCI, I was really hoping for a west coast version of El Toro.

I would have loved to see a El Toro-like ride at SFMM (not a clone though). But I would hardly call a GCI a bummer. Thunderhead, Kentucky Rumbler and EK are all terrific coasters. And at least we won't have to worry about the crazy stapling they're doing on the ET platform. Nearly killed the experience for me.

I bet SFMM will reuse Six Flags St. Louis' Evel Knievel for a new coaster, or some GCI coaster. I could see Psyclone being replaced with Evel Knievel, seems quite possible. Personally, I think SFMM needs an Intamin Drop Tower and a new moderate sized roller coaster.

According the guest relations at the park, the ride (confirmed to be a roller coaster) is going to be announced before the month of September closes out.

Yes that, and also their appears to be some very "sudden" activity behind Deja Vu...

^I've heard much of that "action" behind Deja Vu may be in preparation for the fires that could be looming close to the park this fall (clearing brush, for example).

^ That's a reasonable assumption. However, that doesn't explain all the planks of southern yellow pine pieces wrapped in tarp that have appeared back there no more than a week ago.

the southern yellow pine thats back there is for the new dippin dots stand thats going up. Havent you heard that yellow pine is the material of choice for dippin dots stands (I heard this directly from the guy who cleans the toilets in the park)

The name doesn't seem to fit the coaster.

That really does look like a sweet first drop, if that's what it really looks like.

Maybe if the coaster was painted gray like a Terminator machine. We sure don't want Termites in that thing. Maybe it's a working title until some deal expires and they retheme the area it's in.

The biggest disappointment I have with this ride is the track length. It's a measly 2850 feet. Compare that to GhostRider about 2 hours down the road, with a track length of 4533 feet.

^ That's because "Terminator" is going to be SERIOUSLY compact, like Kentucky Rumbler or the Ozark Wildcat. It's not the only thing going back in that area...

Ya, I know it's going to be compact. Just saying how I'm a bit disappointed the ride isn't a little bit longer. But of course, the ride will be a welcome replacement to Psyclone and I'm sure it'll be really fun.

Given Pscylone's old footprint area I'm not surprised it's so short. That trim on Psyclone's banked turn is still haunting me.

This is the second coaster named Terminator. This one is just lacking the "Ex-."

Well, this ride isn't a rumor anymore.

Kudos to SFMM for investing in some quality wood for a change.
