Worlds of Fun - PROWLER

WORLDS OF FUN ANNOUNCES A NEW KING OF THE JUNGLE FOR 2009

http://prowler.worldsoffun.com/

KANSAS CITY, MO – Deep in the woods of Worlds of Fun a dangerous predator lurks, ready to shred those fighting to escape the claws of the new PROWLER roller coaster. Beginning in spring 2009, guests at Worlds of Fun amusement park in Kansas City, Missouri, become prey to PROWLER, a beast of a wooden coaster tangled within the park’s forested terrain.

The two-and-a-half minute high speed chase begins with the ride’s only feature above the trees’ cover, a swooping 85 foot plummet into a ravine. After the spiral plunge, the train rips through a seemingly endless amount of high speed hills and sharply banked turns that hug the wooded land below. With a top speed of 51 MPH, riders grasped in the clutches of PROWLER carve a path with powerful but smooth changes of direction, speed, and elevation.

Prowler is an $8 million investment and is located in the Africa section of the park near the Zulu thrill ride. The classic wood structure blends through a forest of unique terrain, creating a total elevation change of 102 feet throughout the course of the 3,074 foot ride.

“PROWLER reinforces our dedication to being the region’s leading thrill park and family entertainment destination,” said Frank Wilburn, Vice President and General Manager at Worlds of Fun. “This wild roller coaster will attract both families and thrill-seekers when it opens this spring.”

PROWLER is custom designed and built for the topography of Worlds of Fun by Great Coasters International, Inc. (GCI) of Sunbury, Pennsylvania. The adventure begins when riders board one of two custom 12 row, 24 passenger GCI Millennium Flyer trains. These extremely comfortable trains feature a metallic blue, green, and copper color scheme with black seats and accommodate approximately 850 riders per hour.

PROWLER is the seventh roller coaster at Worlds of Fun and is scheduled to open spring 2009. Construction is currently underway, but those who cannot wait until spring may take a virtual ride on PROWLER at worldsoffun.com. Visitors to worldsoffun.com may also access exclusive PROWLER updates and features, like a live construction Web cam, virtual renderings, ride statistics, construction photos, blog, and online fun.

Moving stuff over here since we are no longer at the "rumor" stage.

I'm closing this thread since its still just a rumor, and no official word about the coaster has been released from Worlds of Fun or Cedar Fair.

You may continue discussing the rumored coaster here: http://www.thrillnetwork.com/boards/...un-2009-a.html

I don't understand how this isn't confirmed. They have a logo and a name released, there's a ton of wood in the parking lot, and they have all kinds of permits for building a wooden roller coaster at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, MO. Even if it isn't a roller coaster (which it obviously is), they ARE getting something substantial. There is no getting around that anymore.

TN rules state that it has to be an official confirmation from the park in order for the thread to remain in the construction forum. All I read was just a official confirmation that the park is going to make an announcement.

All the stuff you listed: Permits, leaked photos, logos and other stuff are still speculation. Sorry bud, TN rules.

I have opened this thread because the announcement has been made and the ride is official.

I will say this though...

To those that sent me a PM, watch it. I will gladly help you guys move, close, and open threads that you see fit, however, be courteous about it. Don't shoot me a rude PM demanding that I open a thread now. A simple please and thanks is appreciated.

In fact, I went out of my way doing school work to open this for you. So you could at least give me a please and thank you.

ADAM420,, READ the TN Rules of Service, as Kyle stated for the reasons he closed the tread in the first place. Arguing with staff will only get you a vacation.

Finally, I'm glad this thread debuted. See, I waited patiently and never rushed my fellow peeps. I am really excited, DHollon had clues to it, that this thing would rock under the trees. It better be tree covered since it has no real hills. The coaster is designed to run fast and crazy. The predator will surely be out on the prowl on this one. The S-turn ending seems very appropriate for an ending. Looking at the park site the trains look awesome.

Maybe it'll have some Tsunami/J2/Hellcat craziness to it.

Hmm...interesting layout. I really hope that the trees and various other canopies end up really close to the track otherwise I don't think that the overall ride really looks all that great...that's just me though. Definitely needed though at WOF considering that Timberwolf is awful.

Timberwolf is not that bad, OMG. How many times must I repeat it. It's not even that rough. Come on, people, toughen up a little. It's no rougher than the mild parts of Voyage, and I mean that.

Not the point or what we should be discussing. Prowler, yay!

I'm stoked. Staying that close to the ground for 90% of the ride is going to be awesome.

Does that discussed trestle come into play for this ride? Like does it pass underneath it?

From the GCI Intern Site...

I found this on the GCI intern site:

Quote:

Monday, September 1, 2008
Well, the cat is out of the bag. Worlds of Fun announced Prowler today, so I guess that means that I can officially talk about it, too.

A lot of the work I've been doing lately has been on Prowler, so it's nice to be able to bring it up here. Specifically, I have worked a lot lately with site clearing (to try to minimize the cleared area, of course) and the bridges (for crossovers and service drives).

It was also fun watching Jeff progress with the layout a while back and figuring out the topography we had to work with. I particularly enjoyed all of the buzz about the markers that people were spotting, since I was simultaneously working with the survey that resulted.

The initial reaction to the announcement has been great to read on the forums. It's nice to read that most people are happy to see a GCI going in at Worlds of Fun. I find it interesting that many people say that this ride is unlike anything we've ever done. Sure, it resembles more of an out-and-back than a twister, but all of the twister elements are still there in a more spread out footprint. Is that an oxymoron? I suppose the fact that we're not working on flat ground perhaps hides some of the dynamics of the ride, too. I am very excited about the "through the woods" aspect of it, though.

In any case, I'm looking forward to watching this ride progress with everyone else. I'll do my part and post as many photos of construction as I'm allowed to.

On some other fronts, the redesign of the Great Coasters website is almost done. It's making its rounds around the company and the content is being finalized. Everyone who has submitted photos for the site has been a big help to us. Though the "deadline" is today, we'll continue to accept submissions for ongoing addition to the site. The fan-submitted photos really add a unique element to the site that we're very happy about.

Also, we've officially moved on site to Forellenhof in Germany. Bent construction will begin very soon and we're looking forward to posting some photos of vertical construction as soon as that happens.

That's it for today. Thanks for reading!
