^Um thanks...but I don't believe I mentioned anything about quantity. I suppose I should have been more specific. When it comes to the overall experience/enjoyment I derive out of VF, it is the same (sometimes better) experience I have at some other parks in this region.

I'm also hoping for a nice waterpark expansion. I hardly ever go into any waterparks in general but a nice expansion would certainly do well for VF

Looks like we'll be getting cabana's as well. I'm kinda disappointed with the whole marketing catch at this so far. . . Usually parks announce their 09 expansion/addition and then advertise it, but they're reversing it. Also I like how they say "Visit Valleyfair.com for more information" where you won't be able to find anything about the addition.

I dunno if I like the whole re-naming thing. . . But I do like the size. The wavepool at Dorney is slightly larger than this, so it'll still be a great size! I hope it resembles the one at Dorney as well. That was really an awesome wavepool!

People usually freak out about name changes. I'm surprised that more people haven't spoken up.

Woohoo. It's on the site now!

Quote:
Breakers Bay Wave Pool to Debut in 2009

Thrill seekers are invited to ride the tide next summer when Valleyfair unveils Breakers Bay, a new 350,000-gallon wave pool.
“The enormous popularity of our waterpark has created a need for expansion,” said Larry MacKenzie, general manager of Valleyfair. “We are thrilled to be able to add an attraction that will be appealing to guests of all ages.”
Breakers Bay will total 34,000 square feet with 200 feet of “beach frontage” (shallow end width) to give guests plenty of space to sunbathe as they watch the waves roll in on the zero-depth entry.
At its widest point in the deep end, the wave pool will measure 75 feet. Its maximum depth will be six feet.
Valleyfair will offer cabana rentals around Breakers Bay to enhance the guest experience. The cabanas will shelter guests from the hot summer sun and will include food and beverage service.
Other amenities that will be added include a new bathhouse with private changing and shower areas, tube and cabana rentals, locker rentals, a new merchandise stand and new food stand.

The addition of the wave pool and other amenities will bring the waterpark’s size to just over seven acres, which is almost double the size of the existing waterpark.

Also new in 2009, Valleyfair will change the name of its waterpark to Soak City. Soak City’s attractions will include Breakers Bay, Panic Falls Body Slides (three tubular water slides with quick turns and sudden drops), Panic Falls Speed Slides (two large slides with a sudden, rapid drop), Hurricane Falls (a four-passenger raft ride) and Raging Rapids (a rough, whitewater tube ride). For milder thrills, the waterpark offers Ripple Rapids (a slow moving river), Splash Station and Giggle Run (attractions for small children).
All waterpark attractions, including Breakers Bay, will be included in the price of Valleyfair admission.
Valleyfair will open for its 34th season in May 2009. The complete 2009 operating schedule (including Soak City) will be posted online at valleyfair.com in the near future.
Valleyfair is owned and operated by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, a publicly traded partnership that is listed for trading on The New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “FUN.” In addition to Valleyfair, Cedar Fair owns and operates ten other amusement parks, six water parks, one indoor water park resort, and five hotels. Cedar Fair also operates the Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park in Gilroy, Calif. under a management contract.

Yeah, really no supprises at all, actually a VERY lame release, no Hype at all. Kind of: "oh by the way we are puting a Wavepool in that big hole that was the flume" And are they serious, Cabanas with service????? Hope they can pull it off.

How would a park go about hyping a wave pool? Would a wacky font do the trick?

Only thing I have yet to hear is the dollar amount for his investment. That will give us a better idea on 2010 and 2011.

There is a lot more they could have done....Make it the ceter of their web site with artist drawings, Better sinage at the park it's self instead of just tacked on to a 2009 season pass banner, I don't know just be creative isn't that marketing job. Get people excited about the "New" projects in the park.

It's a wave pool. I wouldn't spend a ton of money on animations and artist renderings. I'm sure in the spring you'll here more about it locally. People will be happy with the fact that they're not right on top of each other any more when they go into the water park.

I'll be heading out to the park sometime this week to get my season pass processed, and I'll grab a couple pics while I'm there.

Wonder if they will add any more water slides.

Next big project will probably be a new steel coaster. something along the lines of the raptor or mantis, like at cedar point. Probably won't be for another few years for that though.

Looks and sounds like it will be a nice wave pool. a wave pool adds a lot to any water park.

Well I think I am the first to get these posted so I might as well share them. Here are photos from today. It was opening day for the pool. Area looks line but the way the entrance is not just doesn't make sense/is sorta stupid in my opinion. They could have planned it better.

Here's a video of the opening ceremony.
The park did a very nice job with not only the wavepool, but setting up the event too!
I had a great time!

You should think about uploading that to Youtube and not Coastertube. Coastertube is way to buggy and even with cable internet it freezes up.

Just a thought for you...
