| Carolina Cobra Carolina Cobra to Strike at Carowinds for 2009 Carowinds announces plans for its new coaster Charlotte, N.C. – There’s a new species coming to the Carolinas, but this is no animal! Carolina Cobra is an innovative new scream machine that will be the park’s 12th roller coaster when it makes its much-anticipated debut at Carowinds in 2009. Carowinds, a 112-acre amusement park located on the border of the Carolinas, will debut Carolina Cobra in early spring 2009. This rebellious 125-foot-tall steel coaster will stand as the second tallest coaster in the park. This large new addition will hover near the entrance of Boomerang Bay, and, coincidentally, happens to be a “boomerang” coaster, meaning that it will travel the same track forwards and backwards. The boomerang experience is unlike any coaster at Carowinds. Riders on the Carolina Cobra are pulled up a steep 125-foot lift hill and sent diving down a 120-foot drop, speeding along a 65-degree descent into three inversions, including a cobra roll and a 360-degree loop. The train is then “caught” by another lift hill, and, once it looses momentum, is towed to the top as riders wait in anticipation for the second descent. When the train is finally released, riders are sent racing into the inversions again…except this time in reverse! In addition, Carolina Cobra is adorned with a newly designed train exclusive only to its tracks. No other parks in the United States have yet to utilize this spacious style of train, designed specifically for a heightened rider-experience. This new sleek 28 passenger train will create an aerodynamic experience unlike any other on a coaster as riders undergo the sensations of wind and speed at an amplified level. With its narrowed nose and widened harnesses, Carolina Cobra is sure to provide a smooth ride. "Carowinds has always been a perfect blend of family-entertainment and thrill attractions," said John Shanrock, the park’s vice president and general manager. “For 2009, however, we plan to tilt the scale more to the thrill side! Carolina Cobra will be exhilarating and unlike any coaster that we house at this park. Only serious thrill-seekers should venture into the queues of this towering twisting serpent.” Carolina Cobra joins a portfolio of 11 industry-leading roller coasters including Afterburn, Vortex, Carolina Cyclone, Nighthawk, The Hurler and Thunder Road. Perfect name. Hahaha. For the layout "Cobra" yes. "Carolina" is just making it Carowinds. I would have preferred the blast from the past "King Cobra." The big surprise is the trains. They listened to us. I think they heard enough complaints from us about Head Spin. It's too bad they didn't do it for Thunderhawk. It was probably too quick to talk to Vekoma about it.

I doube they listened to us. I'm sure new trains were part of the plan when they decided to move it here. Paramount never listened to the coaster community so i doubt CF does. I also would have prefered King Cobra or just Cobra but Carolina Cobra sounds just as nice and they did a good job with the logo. The colors looks great as well.

Carolina Cyclone, Carolina Goldrusher, Carolina Cobra... I think I see a theme in that side of the park...

Thats what i hope for although Head Spin was not that bad at GL compared to other Boomerangs i had ridden so this could be super smooth and the trains are awesome and i'll enjoy haveing alot of extra room to move around. I can't till March.

It'd be great if there actually was a huge cobra head at the boomerang section of the ride. I think this looks pretty good, and I got an email about it a couple of days ago. Apparently this was relocated from some other park, but I've no idea which one.

Have those trains been used on any other Vekoma's? Not that a Boomerang would be come fun all of a sudden. |

| I'd say that's pretty awesome. Of course, no one ever emails a struggling English major for comments on new coasters, so yeah...

I want someone to mention me and Carowinds Zone for once. Carowinds Connection gets all the attention.

When you don't know which park its coming from of course they're going to email Wes who has been doing circles around Carowinds for years.

^ gis ruoy ekil I Not everyone knows everything about every coaster that ever existed. Cut people some slack. I actually don't know everything about every coaster from the last 20 years myself, and I know a lot IMO. Leo you can't prove that was me doing donuts in the parking lot.

Alright, good point. We were speculating for Geauga Lake's coaster relocation probably the last 6 months. I don't expect many people know the Alabama Adventures Boomerang came from Australia.

Well there's the problem. I haven't been on here for at least a year, so I can't keep up with all the talk.

It's nice they have the Cobra Cam but it's in a hurrible location. Wish they would have put the camera on top of that water slide right in front of the area but whatever. I wish the waterpark were still open for 90+ days like the last 2 weekends.

Now i know why Carowinds says Cobra is the 2nd tallest coaster in the park. Afterburn is now listed at 144ft on the Carowinds site.

What color is it going to be, will it stay bluish and white?

The supports will be Teal and the track will be Coral. The renderings on the Carowinds site show what it will look like. The two colors look very nice together.

| I actually think that afterburn is 144 ft. It just seems taller than 113 ft when you look at it from the ground. It also looks alot taller than nighthawk.

I think the drop is 144ft tall since the ground level drops alot so Afterburn is 144ft i guess. Just until this year it was always listed at 113ft which might be the true height from station to the top of the lift.

Well I saw the giant hole yesterday. The pipes for saturator must have really been way down in the ground. Per John Shanrock the GM of the park, Saturator is gone for good (at least from Carowinds). He said it was the lowest capacity ride, and the most expensive to maintain. So it makes sense from a financial standpoint. The saturator trains are sitting out in the open in storage back in the warehouse district (if you drove past Thunder Road and turn a right and keep driving past the employee entrance you'll see them on the right). Pictures coming on that in my trip report. As you probably know the saturator track is sitting over next to the bus parking lot. The GM said they are still deciding what to do with it.

Duh, the pump house was only 6 feet or more in the ground. Anyone still think supports will be up before the season ends.

Dude, calm down. Your last 2 posts are like "well duh! or everyone knows that!!!". If you are so hostile towards people and hate Carowinds so much, why do you post here or on CC?

Not sure about the hostile part, but I don't hate Carowinds. I am excited about Carolina Cobra, it just doesn't show. I don't even know when the last time I posted on CC was. I guess I need to be nicer again.

I could easily sww some supports & track up by the end of Scarowinds. Heck it could be half done by then.
