Great Escape to open.... Sasquatch

Quote:
Coming in 2009! Discover the beast they call Sasquatch. Based on the infamous mythological creature, Sasquatch is a legendary drop ride with two 19-story steel towers. You'll be shot to the top in less than three seconds.

But it doesn't end there. Once you reach the highest point, you'll be rocketed downward with a 2 G-force before experiencing a series of air-cushioned bounces up and down the tower.

Worlds Of Fun, Dorney, Lagoon, and SFNO all have 2 towers that are connected although Dorney and Lagoon have 3 leg towers.. Only 2 have rides on them.

Also IOA has 2 towers side by side, as does Yomiuriland and Hanayashiki.. Off the top of my head.

But yeah, the name/theme is kinda... odd.

I had only been to Dorney and i had no idea it was only 2 rides. It sure fooled me but then again i really didn't look at it that much.

That's a big ass double shot tower. Unless I read that wrong. Is just one side drop and the other shoot up? They should just make all their towers double shots. Get everything in one ride.

What's with the Sasquatch thing though? I don't get it.

Its not a double shot, its a Combo (Like SFOT and SFNE)

double shot = like the space shot but you shoot the the top.. Twice, then it does 2 or 3 lesser bounces.

combo = first it runs like a spaceshot.. and then midride it stops and goes up slowly and locked at the top.. like a turbodrtop (so it..combos..the SS and TD program into one)

It's a good name for Great Escape, a park not trying to scream Six Flags Great Escape. It's an odd name but it doesn't scream for a type of ride that demands that. I figured it would have been the SFNO one. If Great Escape didn't get it I'd figure we'd get it at SFGADV, but really we'd need at least 3 towers.

I think the name would work sooo much better with a coaster... (think.. big twisted GCI woodie..)

Or.. a themed dark ride (hunting for?.. with laser guns)

Whether or not the name fits is mostly dependant upon theming. I don't like the name if it's just going to ne a moniker for a drop tower. However, if they use theming to build a story around the ride it will go much better.

Well TGE only need a name a scary apeman statue to do the trick. The park is already themed well enough that they really can just add a new ride. The only strange thing about it is how tall it is. I never would've imagined a tamer park like TGE getting two big drop towers.

They're going to be S&S I'm guessing, right?

Yeah looks like an S&S in the picture on the site. Intamin's don't have combo towers as far as I know.

Intamins does indeed make launch towers, but only a few have been made.

They make ones that use cars somewhat like the cars used on Giant Drops.. But they also make one that looks a lot like the standard S&S tower and car. I've been on one launched intamin myself (Giant Drop car style) its a much different feeling than the S&S tower is.

And well.. after SFKK, I dont see Six Flags going to Intamin for a tower anytime soon.

Not like Intamin is the only other company that makes drop towers, but true only S&S makes combos.

lol, if you read my post you would have seen that Intamin does indeed make a "combo" tower. :P

They call them "Bungee" towers.

We'll have to see if any park uses those newer Intamin ones besides some new unknown Chinese park.

It sure helps you forget about a crappy SLC sitting in storage that would not get much non local fanfare.

Eh.. for the area I think the SLC would be a smart move... SFNE is a good 3 hours from TGE... and (SF)DL is a good 4.... So most likely people in the area havent seen a ride like it before...

+ an open SLC would be better for the park than the CLOSED Nightmare is.

Amen. The train path is already ruined up there by Nightmare right? If the name is not trademarked Hangman would be a great name. That would be a great site for the coaster.

(I mean to hit quote, not edit James. I'm sorry.)

The train up in that area is long gone. That was the "Ghost Town" train. The train they have down (next to the boomerang) has always been different from the one up in GT.

And I think that train stopped running after 02 when the mine train came in for 03.

I'm not sure if that train cornered where Canyon Blaster was placed but it did take out that chunk of the trail.

That's what I'm thinking as well....so much for the rumors of SFA getting SFNO's tower to replace TOD,they just get the crap end of the stick as usual.

Having said that & gotten it out of the way though this addition will certainly fit in nicely at TGE,just don't expect any major theming/landscaping to fit the name however.

I'm just hoping its not gonna end up being painted white... At LEAST paint it brown or something.. So it blends in.. And fits its name a bit better..

If it really does go where the Rainbow was... Its gonna stick out (and not in a good way)

At least it finally looks like it got up to about 100ft. I saw a pic on the front page of Gecentral.com. It looks like the towers are still white. I was hoping for a RCT like recolor of green. hehehe

An SLC is never a good choice! Get a B&M!!
Besides that, Sasquatch screams "TERRAIN COASTER!!"
Yes there is a triple tower at SFNE, but they seem to put on extra towers for decoration, it is rarely running all 3, I have only seen it do 2. Most of the time it is in combo mode, that's fun. How many feet tall will this one be? The one at SFNE is 200-210 I think at it already feels pretty tall. How tall do they get? 300 feet? That must be so fun, or it would if they could maintain a -1g drop until it needed to pull out, instead of -1g for 0.1 seconds then just a little floater.

Part of me wants that SLC up. The good part of me is glad that they continue to wait, hesitate.
