Kennywood 2009

Kennywood is replacing sections of the Phantom's track for 2009. they are going to start as soon as PFN is over, so far that's it.

Indeed they are. A guy over at TPR and KPconnection posted a picture of the track sitting in the Kmart plaza parking lot. Here's the link.

Are they changing the layout at all or just placing fresh track down?

I heard they may be changing the slope up to the second hill a bit.

Perhaps I should clarify.

They're only going to re-track the first drop and second hill. The brake run, station and lift hill will remain untouched, as will the overall layout, the only modification I'm aware of is that they're going to shorten the straightaway after the first drop so that the transition into the second hill isn't so abrupt.

Really it's kind of disappointing we have this new track and it's not for a Kennywood unique B&M invert. Phantom's Revenge is great but I'm a step ahead with you guys looking for the next coaster.

I haven't had a chance to ride phantoms revenge. This sounds like a good move. especially smoothing out the transition into the second hill.

It isn't a rough transition at all actually. The coaster is as smooth as butter.

They are just replacing the old Arrow track that was made in 1991. They just aren't banking it so much now.

Were did you here this? Laterals are something you typically avoid on a steel roller coaster.

What I mean to say is they are not going to bank the first drop down so much to make the transition into the second hill not so dramatic.

But KW doesn't have nearly the amount of space or visitor numbers as CP does. I mean KW is in the 1.2-1.3 million range and CP does that manyfold.

Hey they took forever to restore that ride! They deserve it back. The wipe-out sucked anyway.

I drove down to Kennywood today and took a few pictures:

PR's new track.

The mounting brackets for the new track have been installed.

Wipeout's packed up and ready for shipping.

The old Arrow track, all dejected and cut up.

I wonder if they are going to repaint the track they arn't replacing? It will look odd if they don't because there will be two different shades of green.

We'll see this upcoming season if they pulled the Arrow track out of the station and service track and replaced that as well. It would be nice if someone kept an eye on that when they reopen.

I'm almost certain they didn't.

More pictures, courtesy of me!

New track on the Phantom.

Closer look.

Do I see an alignment problem? Lets hope they can fix it soon...

Here's it from another angle blah blah blah...

Yeah, it's the new pullout, now with 90% less Arrow awkwardness.

Ohhh random track.

The future site of the Bayern Kurve.

Mary Lou Rosemeyer will now have her last season at Kennywood. She is being replaced by Jeff Filico as PR rep.

I drove by KW today and it looked like the first drop on PR was finished so the alignment situation must not have been to much of a problem. Sorry I didn't have time to stop and take pictures.
