There is a road that someone took a pic of the first drop and posted it to Kdfansite...10/12/2009 taken from Doswell Rd.

I'll take it for what we can get for now, really zoomed in, because from far away those supports look like toothpicks. I understand with the two main supports those are going to be real thick in comparison.

I'm sorry, I guess I don't understand why the hype for this ride is nowhere to be found. Look at the pullout of this drop! Are you kidding me?!? It looks like SOOO much fun, and the forces you're gonna feel are gonna be awesome.

Photo from Kings Dominion Website...http://www.intimidator305.com/public...ow=1&maxRow=30

Just be thankful its not a B&M!

This thing is going to be way more intense than a B&M. And all of those "small" hills are going to look huge up close. I see a winner.

That's already almost the height of Xccelerator and they haven't really got kicking on the full length of that drop.

The large support is almost completed if you look at the webcam

Webcam :: Intimidator 305 :: Kings Dominion :: Doswell, Virginia

From the webcam, the drop track is all the way up to the top of the support.

From El Barto's link I could see the resemblance to Superman: The Escape in tower structure.

Screw the pullout. I'm still amazed that Intamin was ingenious enough to make the track so much beefier that all they need for such a MASSIVE lift hill is two main support columns.

^Hooooooooly Crap!

The ride is already humongous, and that's only the vertical drop! I can't imagine how monstrous its going to look once they get the top of the lift on...what a crazy ride...

I don't know how anyone is comparing this to the B&M.

No. No way that is real. It's like dragster's tower. Dear god. Can you imagine cresting that hill, and staring at a flat CURVE?!!?!?!

The view looks great from the Eiffel Tower and the ride still has to get the cresting pieces which will be the red intergrated spine track that will attach then several feet into the first drop onto the main support structure. At least this integration of supports will be easier on the eye than the Bizarro and Millenium Force first drops.

^I'm glad the banking out of the drop already happens so soon because I imagine the neck snapping forces otherwise done later.

Just the rendering, Just the rendering. You see how much progress on the first drop we still have to have.

Yea, that support is less than 3/4 of the total height of this coaster. You can see that the drop is at its steepest just under the top of the support.

I apologize for ever doubting this coaster. Poor Carowinds......They finally get something worthwhile, and this ride makes their's look like a fair ride.

^When did YOU ever doubt this coaster?

You've been fondling this ride's hypothetical [ego] since everyone else was downing on it...

I'm guessing they'll now start working on the 2nd huge support, then the track of the lift from the station, finish the first "bunny" hill after the 270 degree turn, and then finish up on the top of the first drop. We may not see the maximum height for another couple weeks.

I just can't believe how the ride goes from such a high drop, to such a tight turn so quickly with nothing in-between. It's going to be an awesome feeling being that close to the ground going that fast...the only other ride I can think that compares would be the Superman Ride of Steel's with their huge low to the ground turns...but here you're gonna be going SO much faster.

It looks to me like they'll top off the ride before adding the first half of the lift track. Reason being is that with such a large gap between the first support and the station, that support will need to be counter balanced on the higher side before all of that track can way it down on the other side.

Carowinds is still getting something big with that angry elephant looking first drop on their Intimidator - no doubt, no way thrown under the Vekoma bus is that park anymore. This is just another genre as I've treated it. I bet I will ride this one and much more prefer it over Maverick. Am I allowed to call those OTSR "Bubba restraints" for their general uselessness for the lack of inversions but for our great American stomach girth?

This ride will make my return to Virginia earlier than expected. It's looking more and more amazing by the day. I am extremely lucky in that Intamin OTSR don't hurt me. This ride will be ranked very high. Bizarro and Millenium Force better be ware that a new monster is knocking.

I find, when I ride Kingda Ka, that they really do make the ride a lot less scary. So much that I would say Xcelerator is as good of a ride as Ka (which probably makes TTD better). It feels like I'm in a cage, not held in one position, but still restrained to a small space.

Check the official site, they've already begun the second hill.

I think I feel safe with the Kingda Ka OTSR's. They're heavy and you really have to bend to get under and into then.

Haven't tried the Intamin OTSR's...and thank god.

I've ridden both TTD, MF and Xcelerator, and already know I'd prefer any coaster with the lap restraints and seat belt instead of OTSR's.

I do agree that the OTSR's probably take away from the thrill of the ride...but unfortunately, I really think those lap-bars are a thing of the past from this point on.

The ride is looking great!

Something I just thought of; this is the only park other than Cedar Point with so many structures exceeding 300 feet (three).

I am just hoping that those quick banking transitions dont hurt your neck like the ones on maverick do.

They have a new webcam, now on Drop Zone instead of Volcano.

Webcam :: Intimidator 305 :: Kings Dominion :: Doswell, Virginia

You can see the work started on the other lift support, and the lift track is poking its way out of the station as well.

EDIT: They're installing the next giant lift hill piece as I type this.
