Kings Dominion -- 2010 Coaster -- Intimidator 305

So after looking around this AM there seems to be some evidence of Kings Dominion getting a new coaster in 2010. No idea on what it is or how big it might be.

There is clearing (substantial so I am told) going on behind Anaconda on the back side of the park. There were pictures of this on KDFansite but the poster removed them.

Then this AM someone posted a copy of a document from Hanover County about the project. It is dated 4/17/09 and the document references the following:

" Kings Dominion 2009 Plan of Expansion Am#34 – New Roller Coaster"

The document can be found via a link on the KDFansite thread or on screamscape.

Not sure what the deal is but it would be nice to see a B&M hyper or perhaps even a flyer hit my home park.

Greg

Edits posted below are just other items I have found to link to at this point. Whether they are useful or not I do not know.

EDIT #1:

Oh btw the link to the document is here if you haven't already found it
https://www.hanovercountyvirginia.or...9/P0041850.DOC

EDIT #2:

Not that it means anything but to add more fuel to the fire if you look at this link 3 Permits were issued for the Parcel ID# that is shown above to Paramount Parks back in January 2007. See near the bottom of Page 2.

http://www.co.hanover.va.us/bldginsp...mitsIssued.pdf

Also you can go here and see that this parcel is "in total" 111.817 acres and is one of several parcels that KD sits on. See the top of page 21.

http://www.co.hanover.va.us/assessor...ssessments.pdf

EDIT #3:

Ok one more detail

Go here Hanover County Geographic Information Access System

Click on Enter Mapping and Data Section
Click Accept
Punch in 7883-80-3347 into the Tax Parcel Pin Number Field
Hit Search
Select Paramount Parks, Inc. 7883-80-3347 from the list
Now click Map Parcel

It will show you where this Parcel is located.

You can clearly see how big it is and how much area of KD it covers.

Here is a link to the map but it's better if you follow the steps above as it will show features (like the coasters etc). The area marked with the black lined square in the middle is this parcel. It covers the "white" areas and the "grey" areas.

http://www.hanovercountygis.org/outp...2572443260.pdf

Not sure how any of this helps anyone but hey just something else to look at and speculate about until we can find something more conclusive.

**EDIT #4:

Google maps shot of the area Google Maps

EDIT #5 - 6/2/2009

Forum members from KDFansite have spotted at least 3 semi-trucks being unloaded at the park with supports and track.

It is also being reported that a lot of land clearing is going on behind Anaconda.

I love that CF is throwing coasters at the former Paramount Parks like it's candy. KD needs a Hyper and a Flyer so chances are it will be either one of those. Both come with splashdowns these days.

That would be fine with me, as long as Carowinds gets theirs too!

I'm glad they see the need for hypers though, I was worried they would go the Six Flags route or something similar.

Kings Dominion desperately needs more high quality coasters and rides in general. It seems the park is in Dick's good favor, unlike Carowinds, after receiving Dominator and the two flats of this season. Dominator was an excellent start for a turn to high quality coasters, opposed to mediocre ones (imo), hopefully Cedar Fair will continue this high quality trend.

Actually Dick has commented several times that he sees great things for Carowinds.... and we have actual PROOF that Carowinds will be seeing a new coaster for 2010, from multiple sources.

the Hannover Co. letter mentions coaster once, and doesn't say "2010"....at all!

I dunno, we'll know soon, though.

There may be more information available via the planning board's site however due to the site's format & lack of a project number we currently don't have full access to the detailed site plan information contained on the site.

I don't see KD getting a MAJOR new coaster anytime soon. If anything they'll probably get some kind of new family coaster/area over by where XLC used to be.

Include the splashdown in the lake I can forsee. It would better than that trench with a concrete cover.

That is correct but the Reference on the letter states 2009 Expansion Plan and Coaster so one can infer from that the coaster would debut in 2010 (potentially 2011) since the expansion is planned for this year.

Of course as you guys have mentioned it may just be a Family Coaster (again) or it could be a relocation of another ride from somewhere (don't know what though). Who knows.

It would make sense for KD to get a hyper AFTER Carrowinds since CW got Behemoth in 2008, KI got Diamondback in 2009, Carrowinds is getting ???? in 2010 so that naturally leaves KD. If they hold with the trend then I would guess the coaster would not debut until 2011 but and expansion plans for a coaster project in 2009 seems a tad early doesn't it?

I totally agree.

Hopefully they'll kick Anaconda to the curb for a hyper in its place. I can't recall any hypers being over water, can you?

You know I'm beginning to think that the plans were changed by the park as there's no site plan showing the placement & layout for the proposed coaster....anyone remember how it was rumored last year that GL's bommerang would end up at KD but we got the two flats instead while carowinds got the coaster? The document says "2009 coaster" on it,not necessarily "2010 coaster" so I'm beginning to be less optomistic about the project than I was earlier in the week although KD could still recieve the yeloow B&M that's sitting at the plant in Ohio, which appears to be either a looper or flyer while carowinds gets the red B&M which is definitely a hyper.

A flyer would be great artillery vs. Busch since they're busy with Manta down South. It would solidify the invert side of the park since Volcano is a very unique ride, not traditional.

I seem to remember a hyper in Japan, a hyper in Canada, and I know I've seen on in Europe, but the name escapes me right now.

Goliath at Walibi Whatever - Belgium or Holland? Behemoth seems to skirt by the water as well.

Apollo's Chariot. And I think that coaster would be a good reason for Kings Dominion not to get a B&M Hyper. Kings Dominion should hold the tradition of getting launched coasters and put a an Intamin rocket coaster back in that space where the schwarzkopf shuttle loop used to be.

The ducks on the Fabio coaster had to come from somewhere. It's the river Apollo's Chariot crosses. The river is the reason for the extra flat track which I don't really like.

Apollo is 10 years old, I don't think Dick will even care that there is a hyper down the road from KD. He'll probably just get one taller than Apollo and then have the bragging rights in the neighborhood.

I wouldn't agree with this because the document is dated 4/17/2009. If this was related to last years rumor it would be dated in 2008.

On the KDFansite there has been a lot of debate on what this is or isn't because the document shows that this is for only a little over 3 acres and 3 acres does not a hypercoaster make. Speculation is that this could only be part of the plan or this is the only part of land than needs to be "disturbed" as in it has not been developed yet and the rest of the project will utilize already "prepped" land ... who knows.

As far as BG having an hyper and KD not wanting to "compete" I am not sure that is the case. That being said KD has never really got "traditional" coasters (Shockwave, FOF, Volcano, Hypersonic) so it would not shock me if they put in a flyer at all. It also wouldn't surprise me if they went in another direction - something completely different like a Maverick, RRR etc. I don't think it would be anything too new or outlandish though as those risks are typically reserved for the flagship (CP).

My only request is that it not be another launched coaster. Don't get me wrong I love them but enough is enough for 1 park.

Oh btw the link to the document is here if you haven't already found it

Why? They already have Ghoster Coaster, Taxi Jam, and Ricochet. And they already have a HUGE kids area. I don't see that happening at all.

Three acres has indeed been enough space for a hyper coaster, specifically, Raging Bull. And I assume we're only talking about B&M hypers, because rides such as GeForce can probably also fit into about 3 acres of space. If KD got a B&M, it would have to be flyer. They wouldn't get a looper since they have one, and Dive Machine, Invert and hyper are out because of BGE.

But there' more to this world then B&Ms and Intamins. Gerstlauer is getting popular, and Mack has been popular, only now they're thinking bigger.

I for one do hope it's a launch coaster. But we'll see.

EDIT: I read the document, and it seems as if there is a whole tone f work being done on and around the lake. Maybe the coaster will be a water coaster? Mack is well known for that, but we know Intamin has made a launched water coaster, and we definitely know how much KD loves launched coasters. Although after all the problems with MF, TTD, and Maverick, I would be surprised if CF ever spoke to Intamin again.

im thinking apollo is a major factor, it not just some 10 year old coaster down the road, it was the first, and to date one of, if not, the best by B&M. so the question isn't whether they could build it taller, its whether it would be better. and keep in mind B&M and busch are close, not saying they would give up business over that relationship, but it could play a factor.

Oh I know that, what I'm saying is that they've also given a lot of troubles, and CF knows that B&Ms draw in as many people as Intamins, and they are more reliable. I mean, it's been over 10 years since CP recieved a B&M, but when they do, it will be incredibly popular. I mean, Silver Bullet, Behemoth, Patriot, and Diamondback are all perfect examples, especially where Silver Bullet is as popular as Xcelerator.

The parcel seems to be located in the area that's been cleared adjacent to FOF & there was a building there at one point in time that has recently been removed so I believe that the station for the coaster will probably be next to FOF with the lift & drop going south, then the rest of the layout going over waterworks paralell to rebel yell.

The early site clearing, permits & other info we have right now seems to point toward a hyper....KD wouldn't need to start site preps this soon for a flyer or even a large hydraulic launch coaster as those are smaller, compact rides by comparison.

Ahem:

Anyway, my bet is with KD getting a B&M Hyper. As has been stated many times before:

-CF has been heavily rumored (confirmed?) to have a 3 Hyper deal with B&M.
-A relatively large plot of land has been cleared. Personally, I would like to see another hyper twister.
-And finally, my strongest piece of evidence to back myself up with:
http://themeparkreview.com/forum/vie...=asc&start=780
The red track is clearly a hyper from the size and shape of the track, and the coding of the sticker.
