SDC's River Battle Resumes Construction

Couldn't find the thread from last year about this, so I hope no one minds starting a new one.

As most of you know, Silver Dollar City began construction of a Preston and Barberi (sp?) River Battle for the 2009 season, but delayed construction a year just as what happened at DW. Earth moving equipment has re-appeared back on site now, along with the updated teaser billboards. Some photos were posted the TPR: What's comming for Silver Dollar City? - Theme Park Review

Can't wait to see how the theming will turn out. I've been hoping the theming will be better than DW's version. Not that DW's is themed badly at all, but I feel it's just too cartoony for SDC. I'm hoping for a revitalization of the Tom Sawyer theming.

Hopefully the get a good flat ride/drop tower to go with this POS...a coaster would be even better.

I didn't stop at Dollywood this year to check out that ride. The B&M hyper would have done that but I wouldn't call the water ride a POS.

This isn't just a water ride, the one at dollywood. It's suicide. I honestly believe you stay dryer just getting in and swimming. I'm glad to hear that they are resuming this, maybe Dollywood's AM will start back up

That is just a re-re comment if I have ever seen one. The ride is far from a POS, it is a great family experience that will prove to be quite popular with the focus group that the park centers on.

Silver Dollar City is NOT Six Flags. It never will be -- if you are looking for a park that is packed the gills with extreme rides, don't bother coming to our park. SDC is MORE than just a ride park.

The ride is actually a Mack ride, not a preston and whatever one...

I've been there every year for the past 15 years. It is a great park, and I love the experience. I went on a river battle ride at Six Flags Great America and I found their splash battle be a waste of money (though it was the first day they opened the ride and it was rainy all day).

SDC has so many water rides already. You can almost get the same experience shooting water at people that are riding the Lost River of the Ozarks or by going to Geyser Gulch. I don't see this ride as something entirely different from any of the other water rides at the park. Sure it's a good family ride, but when I was young I HATED getting sprayed at Geyser Gulch and still am not a huge fan of getting sprayed on Lost River...you get wet enough, in a fun/exciting way throughout the ride's elements. Hopefully the ride doesn't end up a dud since they're investing money into it.

Yes, I probably have posted that comment before...I mean, they have a decent drop tower and a small version of a Frisbee right over at Celebration City and though I'd rather see a new, big ride, do you think they will sell those rides or relocate them to Dollywood or SDC?

^I kinda agree. SDC does a lot of spray-oriented, super soaking water rides, and it's not typically hot enough to warrant getting so drenched (besides, it's so shady all over the park). But you can't blame them for keeping a good thing going. These rides are very popular with the kids, and there's a good family aspect to this particular ride that their clentiel really goes for.

As far as CC's rides go, I'm sure they'll be split among the remaining parks. OzCat will either stay or be scrapped, but I could see SDC getting several of the flats considering they're right there in Branson already and SDC is the most ride-starved park of the chain. I doubt they will come this season though, but we shall see. I know there was some talk about not going through with the splash battle and moving Roaring Falls to SDC instead.

It's Preston Barbieri. Mack also makes a Splash battle. They are not cheap rides. I'm glad to see they are getting a new rides but there are better options out there and at the same price.

Actually Philip, I was like you and thought they were wrong on that, but Preston Barbieri also makes a splash battle (River Battle)...But its called a "Compact Splash Battle"...I just checked out their site..and Bencerisback, we had this same talk about Dollywood's upcoming attraction..Adventure Mountain. I and somebody else said it was basically the same experience as Dreamland Forest but without water...........Like what you said with SDC's ride and Geyser Gulch.........

1. Well then I guess you'll hate to know that Roaring Falls will be making its way over to SDC soon as well. 3 water rides and SPLASH HARBOR (not Geyser Gulch) help round out the extreme rides for the teens.

2. So you don't like water rides, there are plenty of people that do which is proven by their long lines in the summer -- and water rides are proven winners as family rides

3. River Battle at DW is far from a dud, so I don't see how this one will be anything but a success.

^Originally it was hundreds, I believe. Though a lot of it has been sold off in pieces, or is leased by other businesses, or sits away from the park, and some of it can't be developed because of all the caves in the area. There's still tons of land to develop though.

Thats cool to know. It just seems the park would be bigger for the length of time it has existed. Who knows why things are the way they are. I have been to SDC just once and that was last year. I loved it and plan to go back. SDC is my draw to the Branson area.

I actually like those water rides, just not being sprayed by other people. It's just not funny to me, and I never road Roaring Falls so I'm glad I'll get a chance to. And excuse me, but what is Geyser Gulch then

Geyser Gulch is the "tree house" that incorporates all of the foam ball shooting area.
To get to Splash Harbor you have to walk through that area and past the restroom.
That particular area (Splash Harbor) is made up of the "boat" and then the accompanying "dock"

Silver Dollar City has Been On My "Travel To List" for the Last Few Years. However, Admission Doesn't Seem To Justify what It Has. Maybe a B&M Flyer/ Inverted Coaster like Tatsu/Manta/Nemesis Would Justify it, But Its a Little Too Expensive Right Now for Me.

I'm not sure what park you are thinking of, but SDC's admission price is very justifiable considering what they have. 3 major coasters, a cave, lots of rides and atmosphere that you cannot find anywhere else. I've been to parks that have a lot less and charge more (hi there DCA, talkin' about you)

If Silver Dollar City's River Battle is the same as Dollywood's it will be a HUGE hit! River Battle at Dollywood is a blast for families. In August we took my cousins from Virginia to Dollywood for the first time since they have added River Battle and they loved it. My cousins 3, 8, 12, and 14 picked River Battle as there favorite ride. They all mainly coaster fans (except for the 3 year old of course) especially the 12 year old but thought River Battle was the coolest thing he had ever seen/rode. We honestly spent the last hour of the day shooting people and taking turns riding it and shooting each other.

Our River Blast will be Tom Sawyer themed and it appears that there will be lots of interactive elements, but not as cheesy/cartoon-ish as Dollywood's ride is. Personally I cannot wait for the newest concept art to be released. Should be around November 7th.

Where have you been? Its been started back up theres even pics of the construction of the build on the dollywood thread, any way I have yet to ride river battle but have walked by it every time i've been at dollywood this year, and I must say, those cartoonish things are just becouse they are in the smokie mountains, and it was there first interactive ride so to speak.

When he made that comment on June 21 Dollywood had not announced that construction would resume on Adventure Mountain yet. The announcement did not come until about a month after his comment.

Oh yeah, there are some more construction photos on the SDCFans forums: SDC's 2009/10 Project

They've made a lot of progress with the station, and it looks like there's some cool effects in store by the layout of all the pipes. Can't tell too much yet though.
