Hey folks just thought i let you all know that there is some extra land clearing going on at carowinds. I was there today for gay day and noticed that they are takeing out benches on the path behind Top Gun and had the paths entrances blocked off. it's a pretty nice sized area but the only thing i can think that would fit is mabye a large resturant, a few shops but they have enough shops there already, or mabye a flat ride.
Sorry there's no pic, i ment to take my camera today but in a hurry to leave i forgot but i'll go take a pic sometime this week.

Let's keep all the Carowinds talk in the threads in rumors. Nothing is confirmed yet.

I was there as well...but I didn't see this blocked off. I actually walked down that path. They might have had it blocked off while the picnic was going on between like 11 and 2, but around 4 or 5 when I rode Top Gun many many times it wasn't blocked off.

Another note, I did see on Vortex they had a sign next to the entrance for the ride that said "Single Riders" and had an arrow point toward a second stairwell. I thought this was a good idea, all the people who ride by themselves go up a different queue and fill in spots left open on the trains. I just hope they start doing this for Top Gun.

Sorry diden't mean the path directly behing top gun there is a large grass area to the left of the entrance of top gun. the use to put cars on platforms there years ago, the path through that has been fenced off and the benches were taking out.

Ohhh, now that you mention it, I did see that but didn't think much of it. Hmmm...There is a funnel cake place right across the way, and right next to it is Kountry Kitchen, so maybe, just maybe, this is where the supposed giant frisbee will go? Or they could just be putting in some new asphalt, or maybe some nice flower beds.

I hope is for a ride. it would be a horrible waste of space if they just leave the path there, for years i have been hopeing they would do something with that, i hardly ever saw people walk through that let alone even sitting down in there.

Everytime I walk through that area I wonder why there is nothing there. Until you get to top gun you just walk for a while and theres nothing back there. A giant new HUSS would be perfect back there, especially if they could work out a way to keep lots of trees. The growth back there is wonderful!

Well this might just be adding fuel to the fire, but you can pretty much eliminate the "nice new flower beds option," because small stuff like that is usually only done on the off season, because it doesn't disrupt the paths, and it can be done in a week or so. I don't think they would block off paths for a flower bed do you?

I'll Be at carowinds Friday to check out how this area is doing now since it was back in may when i noticed this and will hopefully post a pic. and also see if i see anything new on the island i will take a camera with me when i walk through the island to take pics and if there's anything new i'll post it here. If your wondering i have permission to take a walk through on the island friday to take some pics so that when my web site is finally up there will be a Smurf Island pictorium & shrine. If your wondering about the construction it will not start until next year because they have already said a haunted attraction will be there for this years Scarowinds, as for my web site it will not be up and running until Carowinds opens for it's 2004 season. so around march.

I'am thinking both parks SFOG & PC will be getting a coaster in 2005. I just hope it dosen't out do Carowinds coaster because people would still just go there instead of carowinds. Unlike Carowinds I coulden't predict what SFOG would get next. They doo need more flats though. But i think they will get a hyper.mini hyper before we do.

The GM of SFOG told me that a hyper would probably be the next coaster. Didn't say what company will design it. Probably be B&M since Intamin isn't exactly the flavour of the month with SF right now.

Intamin isen't the flaor with any park right now, Even CP. I have heard a wild rumor that might not even be true but i heard that CP is now trying to sure Intamin. But take that as what you will. Like i said it was a wild rumor i heard somewhere.

It wouldn't surprise me if they did sue. Personally, I think it was too soon for a 420/120mph coaster. But, that's just me. I made the trip to CP for MF. I haven't been that excited about TTD.

I think Intamin is more into pushing the envelope instead of building good quality classy rides like B&M. It was just to soon for a coaster like TTD but i am not complainging since I am going to CP in like 3 weeks.

I agree TTD was afew years ahead of it's time, Mabye if they would have waited another year or 2 they could have goten the thing right.

Yes. Think remember back how long it took us to get to 200 feet. and then 300 feet. it only took 1 year to go from 318 to 420! thats like a huge bounce.Intamin does have a few good rides but its rides that uses newer tech. aren't very reliable where as B&M are.

Yeah they should have waited at least 3-4 years to bring out TTD, i don't think anyone else would have done it by then.

I was thinking about TTD the other day. When MF opened, I was there on the sneak preview weekend. I just had to ride it. TTD? It can wait. I'm just not excited about it. How long does it last? 5 seconds? I know that they didn't want to copy MF, but I really think if TTD had more substance to it other than Launch, Top Hat, Brakes, I'd be excited over it. Even Xcelerator had some overbanked turns!

Perfect sense. Although it's pretty to look at it's has to be one of the worst coasters i have ever been on. I totally agree they could and should have done alot more with the layout.

yes it did but, i dont think that they could make another huge coaster like MF b/c of space wise! All they did for TTD was take out some of the Midway footpath and some of the lagoon! But since TTD is SO fast and SO tall, it doesnt really matter how long it is! Its AWESOME!!!

Oh yeah don't get me wrong, any coaster that goes 420/120 is awsome but it's not in my top 10. Sorry i would like a little bit more than 15sec of thrill after waiting 4 hours.

You know...the height doesn't really appeal to me! Or the speed. A few bunny hops, a hill or two, some overbanked turns, I'm sure they could have added some stuff and found the room for it. I think the park wanted to get the world records back to Ohio and didn't really care about much else!

Either that or they only had 25million to spend but i think your right about them wanting to get there record back. But they don't really own it, they share it with SFMM don't they. i thought both parks had 16 coasters.

yep they both do but i think that CP is gonna let back for a couple of years b/c i heard that SFMM is gonna get 2 coasters in 1 yr 2 get back in the lead!

I hope CP dosen't allow that. The could still do some general park improvements and build a flyer or floorless or both. I'am starting to think both parks just might build a coaster every year, but i don't see that happening, either way SFMM would wind up winning because CP would run out of land at some point.

true! they are land locked w/ all of that water and stuff! But MM is not and even if they have no more land left, then they would have endless possibilitys to add coasters of what they got!
