New Park in Myrtle Beach

I read on thispagecannotbedisplayed that developers are tyring to build a giant amusement park near Fantasy Harbor in Myretle Beach. I think this would be awesome considering the only other parks they have worth going to are Pavilion and Family Kingdom and they are right down the road from each other. Maybe they'll have good rides like a giant woodie or a B&M. what do you guys think. If they do build on do you think it would make money?

Yeah..they want to put a new park in at Fantasy Harbour. Don't know if it'll happen or not. The city wants the Pavilion to move from its present location to supposedly, somewhere near Broadway at the Beach. I really don't want to see that happen either.

They have been trying to move the Pavilion for years. Ever since the 80's. Odds are if they just got a big coaster in 2000 it's not going anywhere for a while. And if they do build an amusement park in Fantasy Harbor do you think it will be all cloned coasters or good custom ones?

I'd like to see the Pavilion moved just so the Hurricane Category One would get rebuilt and turn back into its former Category Five self. That coaster needs some TLC.

For some reason, I could see cloned coasters there. I just imagine a Vekoma SLC at a park down there for some reason. Of course, the wooden coasters would be custom made.

I agree with what you said about Hurricane. It used to be rather smooth but now it is rough. Personally I like it I mean a Catagory 5 hurricane is rough..........hopefully the coasters won't be clones. Maybe they will be to start off with b/c they are cheaper but when the park gets bigger they'll take them out and add custom ones.? What do you think?

Heard some rumors from other sites about Hard Rock Cafe possibly being one of the investors in the new park. If funding is in place, once they get city approval, you'd have to think building would commense shortly.

Yeah, The new park would be wise to build a good steel coaster first because Myrtle Beacxh doen't have any. If they built a wooden one people might ride it at the opening then just say..the new park is just like the Pavilion and Family Kingdom....so a steel would be a better first addition.

I agree, has ther been any more news on it? I know they are buildiung a planitarium in Myrtle Beach, they had it on the news here. I haven't heard anything else about it which might mean the park has been scrapped. Hopefully this isn't the case.

no the planitarium is different from the new Hard Rock Park. The Hardrock park is plannning to open in 2005 but due to some difficulties it may be pressed back to 2006. They already have a site picked for the park and it is i think 150 acres. I will post the site i found this information.

I sure hope this new park is something worth visiting in 2 years. I will say it will be in a wonderfull location and once the bridge is complete traveling in & out should be a breeze.

150 acres is not very big. I am afraid the park will be too landlocked to add anything. It is smaller than Valleyfair which isn't very big.

I saw the pic of the park site and it's not very big and from what i could see there was no room for improvement after the 150 acers but mabye that was just the picture.

The land nearby looks to be empty so it can probably be purchased and 150 acres isn't that small..The pavailion is only 11 acres. Keep in mind and Family Kingdom isnm't much bigger so it will still be the biggest thing there plus if they are careful of where they put there rides and use space wisley it will be plenty for what theyare trying to acomplish.

Well they better have room for a B&M speedcoaster!!! An L-shaped O&B full of airtime hills would be nice. I'm sick of all of the good airtime hypers going to parks with such short seasons (6 mos or less)! So how big is that nearby empty land?

That would be nice for them to build some big for the first year. 150 acers is alot bigger than i first thought.

Yes i think a good steel coaster would be wise to build first because Myrtle beach doesn't have any except wild mouse roller coasters and kiddie coasters.

150 Acres is pretty tiny, and that might be occupied by more then a park. I heard somewhere that they were going to put a Hard Rock Hotel there too, making it more of a resort type of thing.

150 acres is plenty for what they want to park to be. Even with a hotel...the park doesn't have to be gigantic to attract guests b/c it will stil be the biggest thing around the coast.

For the record, it is ISN'T, not ISEN'T..... I-S-N-apostrophe-T

I haven't heard anything about the Hard Rock Park, but rumors going around say 2005 or 2006 will be the last year for the Pavilion.

Man, I hope this park doesn't kill Family Kingdom! It's already doing so to the Pavilion.

I wonder what will happen to the coasters. Hurricane is not a great coaster but i hope it finds a home somewhere. I would hate to see this coaster destroyed at such a young age.

I hope something changes in the Pavilion's future as well. It is a historical landmark along the strip and is much more valuble than another stupid retail center. I can't imagine MB without it.

I think 150 acres is enough for a nice park. They could have 75 acres for parking/maintenance, and 75 acres for the park (About the size of Carowinds minus Waterworks) They could always use parking garages if the park becomes seriously land locked.
