| 4D for Japan? http://www.coastersandmore.de/rides/...iaapa1_e.shtml Currently the second roller coaster on the basis of the Arrow 4D coaster concept X is being built. Two seats are mounted on each side of the vehicle, being rotatable for 360 degrees perpendicular to the direction of travel. The rotation is produced by a mechnical system and controlled by the track. "Higher, faster and with more ride elements" is what Quin Checketts promises for the Japanese version. For that purpose the pioneering prototype built for Six Flags Magic Mountain, California was completely reworked. Instead of an axle the engineers incorporate an Ackermann steering as it is used by B&M, Intamin and - recently - Vekoma. For the average rider the differences won´t be perceivable. The trains with their gigantic span width of over 6 meters will inter alia negotiate a new ride element, the so-called "Full Full": While the train negotiates an element similar to a zero-G roll, performing a 360 degrees roll around the longitudinal axis, the seats do a full backwards rotation. Full, full, so to say... |

Woah. That does sound like a done deal. But as of now I don't want to believe anything until I can get some proof.

Wow, it looks like it really is getting produced...That page was full of new rides being released, did anyone happen to see the 8 seat Screamin' Swing they said Thorpe Park was getting. That looked insane.

Haven't seen it yet but it appears to be much bigger than the Knotts ride in capacity, probably becasue its not an upcharge. I think the the sky swatter looks more fun though......

yeah that was an interesting page, full of information. the robo on a track is sort of a buget 4d. Would work well indoors with a decent theme, that would be ideal for somewhere like chessington that can't build a full size ride.

Wow. I guess some of the problems have been worked out. And a new element too? I'd like S&S to get an order for a 4-d in the US.

I have a feeling it's going to be like the dive machine, parks over seas will get them until a park decides to finally get one and they'll start popping everywhere like floorlesses. That is of course if a park is smart enough to stop S&S from building them everywhere like BGT did with Sheikra.

"yeah that was an interesting page, full of information. the robo on a track is sort of a buget 4d. The only problem is, with the new technology of the robocoaster on a track, the prices for one would probably be very high. Think of it, on each train there needs to be computers, sensors and a lot of hydrolics or whatever they are using to move the arm, all that ontop of the track. |

Back on topic, I bet this 4D will be installed in Nagashima. And, with the new 'full-full' element, this will probably be one of the most interesting and best coasters on the planet. Can't wait for more info.

Yeah that's the thing. And you know that's going to have some major down time with all of the computers. Like Stealth did with the 'floating box' on board. And then the maintanence. Wow. But like Skye said, it would probably be worth it to save space and have a really big thrill ride. So this coaster is like a real coaster that can go really fast?

If the drop is big, yeah I think it will go fast. |

I'll join the list of S&S/Arrow cheerleaders if they pull another 4-d off. They need to set a nice new mainstream light for themselves steelwise. Step a lil closer to the big leagues of Intamin and B&M.

/\ I agree, and I hope this coaster works out a lot better than X did since they had basically a practice run with it and now they know what to change and what not because personally, I want more of these to be built.

Hopefully this ride will work very well and act as a good example of what's possible with the 4D now with S&S involved and more experience with it since they already have X under their belt and hopefully learned from that as well. If all goes well, maybe some parks over here will be interested in getting a 4D coaster.

Well, the new element isnt' really anything special...It's just a barrol roll. They're just proclaiming it as a new element because they've only used the half-half which is a the fly-to-lie or lie-to-fly elements that all flyers have used. The barrol roll should add something new to the coaster though.
