Exclamation Six Flags St.Louis Expansion

I just started working at Six Flags STL as a security officer, but have been a huge fan of this park for many years. Anyway, I got my hands on some info today that no one but corporate is supposed to know, yet the rumors have been floating around since last year that an expansion of a whole new section WILL BE built for 2006. The section will include 3 rides, one being a large thrill ride, and the other being a hyper coaster, and the rumors have it, that it will be Superman Ride of Steel. The original plans were dated from 2003. So I asked one the corporates what the deal was and they said they coildn't say, but I bugged them enough to give me the plans. They waited until 2006 to do this expansion due to the St.Louis Cardinals openning their new ballpark for the 2006 season. They wanted to wait to a time when they knew that tourism would be higher in St.Louis, and this would be the best time. Now they couldn't confirm that 3 rides were included, but they did say a large coaster that a few other parks already have will be built for the 2006 season. Either way, it sounds definite for a new coaster. This park needs a new coaster, and badly. Another thing is that over the past 10 years, this parks landscaping has greatly deteriorated and needs millions of dollars of work. Plans also stated that much landscaping renovating is being considered park wide, but that is yet to be seen. All I know is that this park needs something. If anyone else has any info that they have heard but aren't sure about, go ahead and reply.

I don't see how Busch Stadium II will help tourism at all. New ballpark, so what. It isn't like people hate the current Busch, actually most fans say they have no problem with it. This is a load of crap...

Thats what I think also. But I also heard that another reason for the delay is that SFSTL's projected budgets for the past few years aren't quite what they wanted. They waited until more money became available so they could do other park renovations. They have a group called "Circle of Champions" that is kind of like a research and development team that consists of all kinds of regular workers that brings new ideas to corporate and I know one of these people very well. They are working on all kinds of new ideas including restoring parts of the park that have't been touched 10 years, adding all kinds of signs throughout the park, adding 2 new restaurants, and a few other ideas. Either way, this new expansion is greatly needed and looks to be about 90% for sure this time around. One other rumor that is floting around is that instead of adding 2 other thrill rides, it would consist of 1 thrill ride, and 2 coasters, but that is highly doubtful.

I would love to see this small park get a hyper (even if its a clone or mirror) and I beleve the part about the budget not being ideal but I doubt that a new ball park would bring in alot of tourists, I guess if this very major expansion is true than I will have to visit this park again in 2006.

Them saying they are waiting for the new stadium to boost tourism to get more people IS a load of nonsense, its totally because of their budget, but do you think they are going to come out and say that, no, so they use the new stadium for their excuse. And them getting a new steel coaster is definitely needed, and yah, SROS is going to be a great ride for this park, but at the same time, they need something original, they don't have any type of "original" steel coaster. Mr.Freeze and Batman are clones or mirrors, River King mine is nothing special, and the Ninja is an old run down looping/corkscrew coaster. Even with the addition of SROS, they still won't have a mjor one of a kind steel. Yah Mr.Freeze is still one of the top steel coaster in the country, it is still a clone. Something like Nitro or Goliath I think would be a better choice, but I'm sure its just easier to go with what they know works.

It looks to be as if one of the thrill rides also added for the 2006 season will be a Gyro Drop. I haven't been able to find anything official on what rides will be added with this hyper coaster, but with the descriptions I was reading, the one was described as a large freefall ride that can carry betwwen 50 and 60 riders at a time.

I doubt "corporate" shares such information with regular employees. Nice try though...

They didn't "SHARE" this info with me. When I asked the partner I was with if any of the other security officers had heard about this, he said the project was due last year and at that time was no secret to anyone because it had been the big hype throughout all the different departments at the end of last season. But at that time it was for a "hyper" coaster only. If you don't believe it, thats your problem.Go into the archives in this section of forums and you will see that this is no big news. Back in 2001, there was a thread started about the samme thing, and the name Superman: Ride of Steel is mentioned. This park has been hyping of a new coaster for at least 3 years now, and they can't hold off much longer. So what makes you so sure that I don't know what I'm talking about?......heck we'll see next year who is right.....plus, why would I make this up?

^I agree, unless your a person who does have access to park offices, you really shouldn't put him down. I would love to see SFSL get a hyper but I wish it was an original instead of a recreation. That would put more people through the gates. Curiousity would make them come instead of saying "i've already rode it at yadayada." It would bring in a lot more money.

Exactly, but its better than nothing I guess. But SFSTL really does need its own one of a kind coaster. And the thing is, they own another 250 acres of wooded land north and east of the already existing park and this wooded area is VERY hilly and fully of hills and valleys.......it would be perfect for a one of a kind steel that flows well with the terrain.

If this is true, which Superman clone are they going to put? I'm guessing the ones in SFA and SFDL.

When I was talking about it with one of my co-workers, whom knows NOTHING at all about other parks or rollercoasters, he said something about a superman ride and that it was some kind of hyper coaster. I explained to him what SROS was and what a hyper coaster was. Now how who someone who doesn't know a thing bring up info like that from the rumors if he knows nothing about coasters. So I'm not quite sure which it'll be, maybe SFSTL will get lucky and get their own version.

Wow, Six Flags St. Louis is in desperate need for a new coaster. If this rumour is true the hyper would make a great addition, plus 2 new flat rides would be great. The only extra revenue I could see the New Park getting for Six Flags is if the All-Star game was held here.(which still wouldn't really make a difference)

I think they chose to build it around the stadium completion b/c they would have to build it sometime and the stadium would definately lock in more st louis bound tourists; the question is what percentage will wander to Eureka. If SFSL decided to put in a different variation of Superman, they should probly change the name; people would still say they rode it even though it has a different name. Most people would look deeper into it and find pictures and see a difference but thousands would not come after just reading the name in a magazine. I'm only 15 and have little experience in advertising and ripping people off but I think that is kind of given.

I'm posting this for a friend:

Ok I have been at the park for 5 years, I am currently going on my sixth. The intine Hyper was indeed originally planned for the 2003 season. This project isnt really much of a secret. However what is not yet known by everyone in the park. Is that yes the Stadium is probably goign to bring in lots of people and hurt gates from local people which is what the park lives off of. The idea was to put the ride in with the new stadium, to at the very least gain some out of state "guest". It seemed like everything was on track. I say that is because what even the security guard doesnt know is that they have been scraping all the metal up in grave yard number one. In fact they have cleared probably about 1 to 1 and half square acres already cleared of jsut scrap metal. Mainly the 1st generation Free fall. Also those containors have been for the most part cleared out. Well at least a few.
Well I was all giddy as a school girl becasue I recognized the signs. If you havent figured it out already the ride would flow along the east side of the park. So anyways heres were the bad news comes in and were I finally get to divulge what I know. This year as any employee knows my old employeer moved out, Observ .inc. And a new company named Jay Vending came in. I am at this time there only supervisor, there is only one guy above me (he ran things at SFWOA RIP). Now we were up in the containors (grave yard) puting stock away when we got in a conversation with Gary (It wasnt Dan or Jock it was the other guy think thats his name. He orders and catalogs all the maintence stuff) from Warehouse. I heard the same old song and dance that I have heard from the higher ups for several months. However, my new boss informed him "That he heard from people in high places that the dead line has come and gone already. And that the big ride wont becoming next year again." Now your probably saying "why in the hell would they tell this guy". Well if you were a company signing a 3 year agreement with a park wouldnt you want to know if there adding anything to bring people in? Besides how else you think screamscape gets some good stuff. I will admit I am only right about 70% of the time. However what the gentalmen said above is very true. However I beleave its been pushed back for the third year in a row. Also as far as landscapeing goes, like the last 5 years they have yet again cut there budget. I know that blows.
You may also ask yourself, "Why in the hell is he telling us this." Well first off I have been leaving you clues and hints at Screamscape since 2000. Secondly I am a discruntled employee and have been offered a new job else wear *cough* Busch Stadium*cough*. So i am finally gonna divuldge some stuff. I really dont care after this weekend if they know who I am. So as soon as I find time to register, you can email me any question or flames to me at jackel59581@gmail.com.

Sincerely,
Bossstl

Well, everything you said, is pretty much what I have heard also, except that what i "heard" and "seen" is that more and more of the dump and scrap area is being cleared and surveying has been taking place. Also "heard" and "seen" that the expansion WILL be taking place for 2006, now it may be pushed back, heck they push things back all the time, but I have a good feeling that it will be done for the 2006 season. I can think of at least 3 six flags parks that have added or completely redone sections in the past few years and STL is in desperate need for something such as this. It is one of their original parks and I think that corporate is finally starting to see that STL has been left out and falling behind.

Once Again, Posted for my friend!

I tell you what the best sign would be. Steal is at a relitive high. There is a red trailor up in the containors. Next time your doing ur rounds on the outer road, stop up in there through the gate in the North East end of the park. (its ually unlocked durning the week) and see if its there. If its not there or better yet empty. then the project is probably still on. I think it is possible, but I checked Eureka city concial and no permits or motions have come fourth from the park yet. And last I heard March 31st was the dead line.

Sincerely,
Bossstl

It's sad to me that SFSTL is not more than what it is. I still have a bias to visit the original Six Flags parks before the Premier purchase. It's very unfortunate that amongst all those parks I hardly think of SFSTL- Old SF Mid America, even though it had that very funky old name and I really want to ride a Mr. Freeze. I'd rather ride the original first even. I really want SF STL to get a one of a kind steel ride.

^Really; The Ninja: bought from canada/Batman: recreation/Mr. Freeze: recreation. The only original rides we have are Screamin Eagle and The Boss. Another reacreation would be a poor dicision. I've never been to any other park besides SFSL (though I will go to BGT this summer) and the park is fun each time I go, but I personally know people who don't go b/c "no new rides" or "same thing every time" and I have to agree. I guess I'm easily pleased.

Here is something I personally know.

B&M has signed a contract with SF to build 3 new (new designs also) coatsers. Theres a slight chance StL will get one, my insider hasn't been able to tell me what parks these are scheduled to go into.

Its what I have been saying since they built Mr.Freeze, they need one of their own one of a kind Steel. And if that whole thing about B&M is true, I think it would be bettter to get a clone that other parks are getting new at the the same time than to get a clone of a coaster that has already been out and people know what it is. I can care less if its a B&M or an Intamin, as long as it is of hyper size or more, has 80 mile and hour speeds or more, and has a good length. And what other reason would they have for have trucks and a company come spending money on moving the containers and cleaning up the area. I was back in that area 6 days ago and alot has been cleared. I have not heard that hold deadline thing for March 31, and I'm not saying its not true, but that just tseems a little too early for a deadline, not unless they are fighting for an extension or something. Put it this way, in the next 2 months, if land starts getting graded and and more clearing starts taking place, we'll know for sure.

I'd do what BossSTL recomended, and look i nside the mysterious red container, and find out if its empty. If it's empty, it's on, for now.

I'd be willing to bet on what 3 parks they are.

SFMM: Dive Machine.
SFA: Floorless.
SFoG: Floorless.

Noo-o-o-o! Change SFoG to B&M hyper that was much-rumored. I don't think I could stand another mediocre, mid-sized coaster for SFoG!

So, are you pretty sure that the rumored hyper for SFStL is an Intamin, or are you suggesting that it could be a B&M?

I'm suggesting it could be a B&M but It's very doubtful, because teh person I know would be very very excitted if B&M was building another coaster in StL.

I would say if we get a new coaster, theres a 20% chance its B&M.

Carowinds 73-03…At the risk of changing subjects in the middle of a thread…The parks that you listed seem like “logical” choices, but I am not sure about the types that you have listed. I don’t see SFA getting a floorless. I could give reasons why, but they are all just speculative and therefore more opinion than anything else. Honestly, I would find it more likely that they would receive a Dive Machine. Regardless, I hope you are right and SFA does receive one of those B&M’s because that park is “Vekoma’ed out”, as I like to say.

Back to the original topic…I don’t think it’s too farfetched to think that SFSTL would get an “expansion” in 06, but I am not sure I fully understand what the “3 new rides” are going to be. Are these 3 rides all thrill rides and/or coasters?

Another question: Is this “expansion” going to be a new themed area or is it meant more generically (i.e.-Adding three rides throughout the park is the “expansion”)?

From what I got out of the orginal post is that they wanted to add an entire new section aka new themed area. He is saying that they want to add 1 coaster, 1 flat (assuming it'd be a drop tower) and one other ride type, and I'd assuimg its be another flat. I brought up to BossSTL that is a new section is ture, would you think they'd move the kiddie section back there? We both thought it to be a possibility, but probably wouldn't happen. They would just leave a big spot in the middle of the park empty unless they had something to put in there, we know that they have tons of catering room as it is now, so that'd be out of the question too. Hard to say though.
