Kennywood 2006 Speculation

Everyone knows the park is getting a Screamin Swing next season, but the odd thing is...Why would they begin construction on it during the 2005 season if they have no intention of opening it this season?

I'm guessing, and this is just a guess, that they'd only be constructing the new Screamin Swing during the season so they could concentrate on BIGGER things during the offseason. A new coaster has been rumored for some time now, and maybe this is a sign even if it's the smallest. I just don't see any other reason why they'd construct next years ride during the season when they have from November-May. I know Screamin' Swings don't take that long to put together, even if this is the 32 seat model. It just doesn't make sense, there has to be some other explanation. Maybe Kennywood is trying to turn this park around. New entrance, new flats...Can anyone say new coaster?

A friend told me as well that within the next few years, the park is getting a new coaster after they buy the land adjacent to Exterminator. He said its going to be the second of it's kind...And that the first is in Japan. I'm thinking maybe a Vekoma Thrilllift, but that'd be stupid because they've already had a looper like that. I dunno.

Does the new coaster have anything to do with the new coaster like I said...I guess the land he was talking about was that vacant area behind Exterminator...It might be a car shop now that I think about it. If they got ahold of that, they could utilize it as well as maybe build over near Phantom were theres some empty land where the old elements of the Phantom are. If the park indeed is getting a new coaster for next season if my speculation is right, I hope its a very compact coaster of some type, as long as it has inversions and is smooth.

Then can you tell me why they are starting to build a Screamin Swing throughout this season? Knotts put theirs together in a few weeks, even though this one is a 32 seater, doesn't mean it's going to take all this season and the offseason to put together a screamin swing...Theres gotta be something else planned.

like i said, i'll ask around. i'm not at work yet. next weekend i'll ask someone. just calm down lol ok. don't think to far into the future. When we get a new coaster, you'll probably be one of the firsts to find out. Don't worry about it now.

Well, I today I heard a few rumors that the park is possibly looking into getting rid of log jammer and expanding out in that area. I think it is possible if they got rid of those pavilions, seeing how the ones in back of Jack Rabbit bring in wayyyy more people than those ones. Plus, behind Log Jammer doesn't the land keep going until you reach the end of the Racer and even behind there they store stuff like the boats for Raging Rapids. I think if they sold Log Jammer, they could possibly build a new coaster somewhere back there and even using the one ravine back there to use even less land towards the station for log jammer. Then they could maybe fit one or two flats in and leaving the land they purchased behind Exterminator for later expansion. I just think the park needs to just go all out one year because when Geauga Lake moves the entire waterpark to Wildwater Kingdom next year, and put a Hyper in the current water parks spot in 2007 or 2008, I think the park is going to be in trouble. I already know a lot of people at my school that would rather take the drive up there and spend the day there...It's cheaper and it's a overall better park. And that water park and a hyper will only further Kennywoods problems. They need to jump on these expansions plans soon!

I like the Log Jammer... it has a HILL AFTER THE FIRST DROP!! That was cool and very unexpected.

But yeah for a new coaster and further expasion...it'll need to be take out.

I mean if you think reasonably, it seems like the park is beginning to realize that in order to bring in people, you need to bring in a new ride. The outcome for the Phantom's Revenge in 2001 was incredible, the lines were insane. And just last year they started to realize they need to start taking out some of the old attractions to make way for newer ones. I mean, for how stupid that Garfield's Nightmare ride was, the wait for that thing was ridiculous, the old Old Mill's line never got over 10 minutes. And this year your going to see a new entrance and then followed by the new Screamin Swing. Both of those new additions had to replace something and we see the old entrance gone as well as the removal of Bayern's Curve this year. At least we can say Kennywood is getting a little bit smarter, I mean can you imagine how many more people would be standing in line for a inverted coaster or something of that sort instead of the Log Jammer. Yeah it brings in a lot of people in the summer, but that area is shaded well and I'm sure nobody would care to wait 2-3 hours to ride a new coaster. But like I said, at least we are getting small clues that the park is trying to get rid of some of the less crowd pleasing things in the park. I definetly won't be surprised if this rumor is true, because it definetly would be the smart thing to do.

BTW, if no one has seen pics of the new entrance click the link below...It look beautiful and very nice. Let's just hope Kennywood can continue to keep this pattern going and put a new coaster in soon.

Sure did...It's amazing that even the smallest (and stupidest) ride can bring in big crowds...Hopefully all these rumors are true and Kennywood is due for a coaster soon. Heck, a least we know they were actually planning on buying one for next year until they got the Screamin Swing.
