pki 06

normally i dont check on this section of the forums, but something on screamscape caught my eye: according to rumor, pki plans to take down one of the following coasters: outer limits, sob, top gun, vortex. now, top gun i can understand, but all the others!?!?

first of all, vortex has some of the sweetest first drop floater air on any steel ive ridden. then theirs the fact that it was my birth year coaster, so i cant let it go for personal reasons. then theirs sob. sure its extremely rough, but why WOULDNT it be? if you build a hyper woodie with a loop, would you expect it to be smooth for a long time? all that ride needs is some retracking and tlc. that, and some airtime...as for fof, its not the best launched coaster, but i feel its a ride worth keeping....what would they replace these rides with anyway?

im pretty sure 'outer limits' is FoF, so please name it FoF for the people who do not know that FoF was called outer limits FoF when it opened. thanks

Having visited PKI last week........

There is absolutely no way FOF will go. Not at all. Too popular a ride (30-40 minutes wait when even the Beast was only a 10 minute wait).

SOB : The ride gets worse every year, and I did not enoy it at all on my 2 spins on it. That said, it is relatively new, and I don't think PKI is willing to give up on it--yet.

TG : not a popular ride, but I think it will stay, cos I do not see them being able to put much else there, and it is a decent ride.

Vortex: I will give that the first hill is sweet. After that, the ride is typical Arrow. Very uncomfortable. The turnaround before the MCBR is excrutiating. Also no wait for it. I would say that this one is going to be the one to go, due to its age, as well as the fact that it occupies prime real estate. Imagine a new B&M occupying that spot...sweet.

I suppose that we could use a BM in place of VorteX, but I liked that ride for some reason (also, backseat=hangtime in corkscrews, aswell as sweet first drop floater air)
Top Gun on the other hand, I can see that go EASILLY. That ride has been on a decline ever since they took out the themeing in the line (you guys know what Im talking about) And then we could have a TERRAIN B&M, possibly a compact floorless design or standup....or maybe make a B&M flyer and keep the name Top Gun....

I don't see them ripping out any of the coasters when they are trying to compete with CP and reducing their coaster count wouldn't help that IMO.

PKI has a ton of land and I don't see why they couldn't use the valley over by Top Gun and SOB for a new coaster.

The Top Gun que is a waste of concrete, they should add something over there and reuse it. lol

Plus I've heard they've been rehabbing Top Gun, so I can't see it going. It's far too short for my taste, but it's an ok Arrow Suspended

^my point exactly. and speaking of better land use, they probabbly couldve kept my KC and built delerium in the middle of sob's structure. i KNOW there is enough space to build it in the middle of the layout (between the loop, lift hill(not drop) and final hills), or maybe in the middle of the first helix. imagine how much more fun that wouldve made delerium if they pulled it off!
Also, another thing i just thought of...they could just demolish the TG track and put a NEW TG there (BM invert) just like at the other parks...

also also, i doubt we would get a coaster. i just read an article in the enquirer (cincy newspaper) that claims pki is switching their focus to smaller, themed rides. first of all, WTF? for the last 4 years, thats what weve done, and look how it brought the park attendance down (a concern stressed in the article) secondly, why demolish ANOTHER coaster if theyre gonna put in some crappy flat ride? i admit we could use some good flats like a chaos or gravitron, but those should go to the coney mall section (where theres no risk of destroying another coaster, and they would be stupid to take down racer for obvious reasons...) thirdly and finally, if they ARE trying to compete with CP, bigger is better, unlike the article stating that better is better. whats the point of competing if your gonna destroy your good coasters and replace them with something stupid?

and finally, a review of the last 4 years of development
*3 years ago, TRTR: actually a good move. trtr is a nice ride, but the program is a bit too lame imo. ofcourse this year its been acting like a deja vu, so i cant ride it... Also i think that was the year they added reptar (a good move and nice coaster), but im not sure...
*2 years ago, delerium: BAD MOVE!!!!!! KC was a great ride which ALWAYS had a huge line for it, so I dont see y they would tear it down. sure delerium is a nice flat, but i'd take my cobra over it anyway....
*last year, Boomerang Bay: it was nice that they expanded our waterpark, but they couldve done better than repainting and adding in a kiddy area. personally i was hoping that theyd put in a half pipe, or some other cool water ride...
*this year: IJST: DEFFINATELY heading in the ride direction, because its a new coaster. the ride has exellent themeing, and some decent themeing in line...the only thing that disapointed me was the speed. sure its a family ride, but increasing the speed a bit would give some opportunities for airtime....
as you can see, after sob was built, pki had a bit of progress, then were stupid for the next 2 years, then got back on the right track (yay first intamin coaster at pki!)

PKI was the #1 seasonal theme park in the country last year, beating CP and SFGAdv. They're obviously doing something right.

I wouldn't call Delerium a bad move. I love that ride.

Although I hate to see any coaster get taken out for a flat ride. Even a togo. lol

I wish they would have kept their shuttle loop like I wish that PC would have kept theirs as well. They seem to be a dieing breed of coaster.

I guess I'm the oddball when I say that I like Top Gun a lot, and if they remove it, . Vortex is ok, but I wouldn't mind if it went for a B&M. I haven't ridden Flight Of Fear or Son of Beast, but I can't see them taken them down. Why take down Flight of Fear if there is land right beside (around) it. Son of Beast just doesn't seem like a ride they'd take down (only looping woddie on the planet).

P.S. Reptar was four years ago.

i never said delerium was a bad ride. i just claimed that king cobra was better, and they probabbly couldve found another place to put delerium that would be better.i dont care that it was a togo death machine, but their paramount stand up is an AWESOME product, no matter how you look at it...but i digress, lets get back on subject, shall we?

ps. vortex>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>top gun imo, even though that helix on tg has a nice effect now that sob is there...

I like Top Gun, it is a really short ride but it is a good ride for people that do not want to gp on some of the bigger roller coasters. There really are not that many suspended roller coasters, so it would be sad to see this one go. The one that i think should go is Vortex, simply because with the space it takes up you could put something bigger, a B&M of some sort.

I really think we may just see a re-theming of FoF next year. The new ride survey included the MTV Shockwave concept (looks similar to RnR at MGM), and I can't see any of the Paramount Parks building new Premier LIM coasters similar to the FoF design. The FoF theming and queue have gone way downhill since the opening of the ride.

STOP SAYING THAT! i refuse to let them take vortex down. besides it being a nice ride for an arrow (which there arent too many left) but its the only ride at pki with airtime, aside from monster (i know how to make that thing give out TONS of it....) tg makes sence though. i mean, we already took down one suspended coaster (bat), so whats stopping us from taking down another? not that i dont like tg, its just that i know we can do better....

edit: didnt see the post right above mine (posted as i typed this perhaps?) anyway, fof has good themeing. in fact, one of the 3 best themed rides in the park (trtr, ijst, fof) since the enquirer article claimed that they should focus on themed rides, i dont think theyed remove fof's. also, the lalyout is great. why should they replace it? unless they somehow do an indoor compact rocket spegetti bowl coaster. that would be an interesting concept, but i dont know how it would work...

FOF should stay where it is, people. It is ten times better now that those OTSR's are gone!!!!!

my predictions for each coaster (if removed)
*tg: a bm invert named top gun. it could be a unique terrain looper ride thingy...
*fof: if they DONT take it down, just add a ufo themed gravitron in that area. if they DO take it down, some alternate indoor launched coaster, preferably an intamin rocket (hey, rita is a spegetti bowl, so why not make another one?)
*sob: for gods sake, it had better be a hyper and or looper coaster....you know, something that actually has AIR on it...
*vortex: b&m standup/floorless called vortex. big and bad, you know the dizzle....

I don't think the park will add a new coaster any time soon. If they do, it will not be until 07 when "Coaster Con" will be there.

something wrong i just noticed with the rumors...they say that fof will be replaced with a MTV ride...but heres the thing. all of pki's music needs are sponsered by VH1...why would they start such a pointless competition INSIDE of the park?

edit: just remebered they both belong to viacom >.<

They should take down IJST... That ride sucked.
Vortex is an ok ride... But not the best
TopGun is really fun and I like it a lot.
SOB is one of the biggest "POS"s ever.... The park should sue RCCA for that one....

the way i see it, ijst isnt really that bad. the only problem is they run it too slow....if they sped it up a lil, it would be more realistic to the movie, and might give a bit of air. for sob, i agree. there is reason that it has the same initials of another sob xD

Something I just thought of...one of the claimed reasons they took down KC was maintanance issues. So why not take down the rides that never opperate...like Delerium (revenge shall be mine!) But serriously, neither Delerium or TRTR have been opporating all that much lately...and I have the opportunity to visit the park almost every week...
