Geauga Lake '06-'07?

ok im not sure if this is the right place for this, so if it isn't, please move it.

Ok so for the reason i started the thread...

We all know that GL is undergoing a 2 phase waterpark rlecoation. So the question is: What will GL do with the land previoulsy occupid by hurricane hannahs in the years to follow? Coaster? flat?

That's a big possibility...We already know that the GM is interested in putting in a hyper in the park, so maybe this is the ideal place. It's obvious the there is a reason for moving the water park across the lake. This will open up a ton of space which will be able to be used for future expansion. I'm guessing we'll see a expansion to the kiddy area as well as some thrill rides going in behind Steel Venom. I don't see any new rides going in this area until 2007 though. Keep in mind, the wave pool will probably remain in the area until the park plans to put something there. I just don't see them worrying about deconstructing this area until something major is planned. A good example is them not removing Thunder Falls footers once it was taken out of Hurrican Hannah's.

Btw, I think this should be in the rumors board. I kinda just noticed that.

Eastcoastn's right... moving to rumors.

However, we’ve also heard that they may be considering adding something else for 2006 for the rest of the park that could possibly turn into a new flat ride or two.

I for one would really love to see a nice selection of slides in Phase II. The park rendering shows that there will probably be 2-3 new slide complexes and one of them is probably the shark attack complex still on the Hurricane Hannah's side of the park. I'd also love to see a large Master Blaster come seeing how I've never been on one.

As for the coaster, I think it's very likely. I don't know if it'd come so soon in 2007 though. They'll probably wait for the hype of WWK to die off before they switch directions and hype up a new coaster.

Wildwater Kingdom

I wonder what type they would get...they seem to have most (although they do lack a hyper), but I do agree that they would probably wait at least a year to let the hype of WWK die off.

I see a hyper built by S+S as part of their Arrow aquisiton(sp) and that would also be bundled with a tower drop ride that seems to fit in Cedar Fair parks so well. As for the kiddyland expansion, don't expect that until they move it to the other side closer to the waterpark. The 2 towns that GL sits in are very different, 1 even passed an ordinance that states a Roller Coaster can not be built in city limits. I see as much family and kids items being moved to that side and the other side being a thrill side.

^ I don't see that happening. They probably won't get a hyper like Magnum. I'd probably see the park getting a Morgan like the rest of the parks usually get or probably an Intamin. I don't see a B&M getting put in because they can be pretty big sometimes.

You know, I'm glad I got to talk with the GM of Geauga Lake before the park opened this year during Community Day. I was talking with him about this subject, and these were his exact words, "Geauga Lake does very much want a 200 ft. roller coaster like Magnum..." and he then went on to talk about financial models and such, which I followed him on, but I don't remember it that well other than he was talking about the cost of steel, attendance returns and such. So we will be seeing a hyper, and I think it will be a Morgan. The question remains, when? I don't think we'll see the hyper until 2008 at the earliest. Thats another thing, he said they don't want to detract from Wildwater Kingdom's appeal for a few years, so we'll probably be waiting until 2008 at the earliest.

^ I would say 2007. Because once the whole water park is complete, you know they are going to jack the price back up.

And just because he said he wants a "roller coaster LIKE Magnum" doesn't mean it's going to be a Morgan. He probably meant a hyper coaster in general but hey, I could be wrong. If it is a Morgan though, I just hope it's really unique and like the one they put in Six Flags Mexico.

I would like to see some flats put in by the time we get this coaster though, X-Flight can't be the parks newest ride forever.

Magnum wasn't even made by Morgan, it is an Arrow device.

Like is a comparison, meaning something similar to something else. No one said I was stating it was going to be Morgan, that is my guess based upon what he said, so take it as you will.

Especially considering I haven't seen anything out of the Arrow division of S&S yet.

Well, I would consider the track they used on Powder Keg Arrow...They did utilize the compressed air launch, but surprisingly didn't use the same track such coasters have like Hypersonic and Dodonpa.

But Like I said, B&Ms take up a crap load of space, something Geauga Lake really doesn't have on the ride section of the park. I would really love to see a Intamin hyper seeing how they are much more unique than Morgan's. Plus, I would love to see a Intamin hyper in the Cedar Fair franchise, seeing how the only ones in the U.S. right now, are in Six Flags parks.

Shoot, I wouldn't even mind seeing something like this appear in the park. Even if it isn't a hyper.

Before selling off the park, didn't Six Flags aquire permission to build 200ft+ coaster on the Wildlife side of the park? I am sure such permission probably expired, but it does show the possibility of someday building over there.

They did get initial permission...But it was never built. As for building a coaster over there, it's not going to happen. The old SeaWorld side will soon be just Wildwater Kingdom so it'd be stupid to put a coaster over there. Where Hurricane Hannahs now sits is probably where the new coaster will be built, if we are getting one. That area is pretty big and could fit a fairly good sized coaster in it. If it was a hyper though they'd definetly need to extend the lift somewhere else, probably over near Big Dipper, I don't see them bringing the lift over to the new Phase II of Wildwater Kingdom.

wasnt that permission given around the time all of the S:ROS were going up? If thats the case, too bad it never did.

Darien Lake opened their version of S:ROS in May of 1999 and the other two got theirs in 2000. I'm guessing that if they had put a hyper in Geauga Lake when they said they were going to, they probably would have gotten a Intamin hyper. So yes, the park did miss out, but now that Hurricane Hannah's is no more as of the end of this season, I won't put it past GL to put in a new coaster, even if its not a hyper, for 2007 or 2008. It'll be great to get it in 2007 seeing how I visit both GL and CP every year so having two new coasters in one year would be a good treat.

I was messing around with Google Earth the other night and found two distinct areas where coasters and flats could possibly be put. One of course being the current site of Hurricane Hannah's waterpark.

http://photobucket.com/albums/a312/E...rent=hyper.jpg

But the other is probably a better area if the park ever decided to take that POS Raging Wolf Bobs out of the park. I think if the park took the coaster out and possibly purchased a nice Gravity Group or another CCI to replace it. I know they just retracked it and got new trains, but the thing still sucks. I think they are trying to fix something that is impossible to fix...That thing is really old and just need to be replaced, it would definetly be a good decision to do that so they don't have to retrack the entire coaster and have no positive outcome. Tell me what you think.

I dont think its going anywhere, becuase theyre renovating it, and theres plenty more room with it still there. A hyper would go good in the old waterpark. Just think, the station by Steel Venom goes toward the lake, helix or some other type of turnaround (above the lake possibly), then a midway along the coasterwith a bunch of flats and other things.

I wish they would remove it, they are putting money into a lost cause, RWB will never be like it was back in the old Geauga Lake days. Just think, if they took it out, Geauga Lake would have much more land for a bigger, faster and smoother wooden coaster. Gravity Group is just calling their name.

As for the Villain issue, I think the retracking this off season will be good. Hopefully Geauga Lake will even invest in some PTCs and get ride of them POS Gerstlauers they have on the coaster now.

They have room for a dozen new coasters without removing any, why remove one when it works and gets people through the turnstiles, not to mention the fact that they're spending oodles of money on it?

Your kidding right? The Big Dipper is by far the best wooden coaster in the park. It works fine and hasn't had any problems, and nobody complains about it like RWB and Villain.

Oodles of money...Dude, they only retracked one portion of the ride, I can see it costing a lot to retrack the whole ride, but it's a pretty small portion where they retracked. Besides, it doesn't seem like it's helping at all. Like I said, they are putting money towards a lost cause. RWB will always be the same old, shacking and rough coaster it's been known as since Six Flags took over. I think if they took it out thats one less rough coaster the park has to retrack every few seasons to get it a little less rough. Plus, they would be a crap load of land in that area if they took it out.

And BTW, Raging Wolf Bobs is probably the most unliked ride in the park...Even Villain had more people riding it and that's a POS right now with those Gerstlauers.

Villian was supposed to be retracked this year along with RWB, but for some reason it wasn't. I look for it to be retracked this off season.

Yeah I think they ran outta time...It'll probably be retracked this season, which is a good sign. Hopefully they'll get new trains too.

BTW, RWB's retracking did absolutely nothing for the ride. It's still shakes like crazy and is rough as hell. Like I said, GL is putting money towards a lost cause.

They also rebuilt some of the supports on RWB. I don't have any pictures of it, but there is one part of the track where there are no original supports left. Portions of some hills also had part of their supports completely redone. I am curious as to whether they are going to do the whole ride eventually. When I was there, there was tons of wood stacked very close to the ride. I didn't find it to be that rough, and I blame the Gerstlauer's on that ride for alot of it's roughness.

Also, I would have liked Big Dipper alot better had those trains not been kneebusters. Geeze, I'm only 5'9 and my knees got squashed on those POSs.
