As well all know, Six Flags Marine World has yet to open it's newest coaster Zonga all season. The park has now announced that they expect to end a three year slump in attendance at the park due to the great response to the new animal attractions this year. Well, I've heard that the park is actually thinking about replacing the coaster with something new in the 2006 season. The coaster is in shambles, one mechanic even said that he didn't think the coaster would open anytime soon...Nobody rides the thing anymore, everytime I've been to the park the line is always empty and those who do ride it, come off the ride with sore heads. The last time I saw the ride have much of a wait was back in 2003 when I went on opening day and actually got to ride the thing on the first train that general public were on. Man, was that a mistake...Even though it wasn't too bad in the 2003 season, when I rode it in 2004 it seemed like it got a lot worse. And with the coaster closed since the beginning of this season, not opening once, it's not looking good for the coaster and the fait of Zonga is being tossed in the air. It is taking up some space, I never did realize how big of a footprint it had for being such a small coaster. I think that land could be used for a drop tower, some other thrill ride or even a new coaster. What do you guys think? |

My precious Texas Tornado I would truly be sad if they dismantled Zonga. Maybe Geauga Lake will take it and I can go ride it all the time. Even though I'd love for that to happen, yes I'm kidding. I don't expect it to. For a ride thats 115ft, and has four inversions, the thing is puny though.

They should totally get rid of it and put a drop zone or something like that. The park doesnt really have a tall ride yet. Medusa is only 150 ft. If they got a huge tower that would launch you up or drop you it would complete the park.

^there is a 150 foot building limit, that's the only problem with a tower

^ Yeah he's right...Vallejo has a height limit, that's the main reason why v2: Vertical Velocity was closed and changed before the 2002 season. They had to lower the height of the impulse coaster from 186 feet to 150. So if they got a drop tower, it couldn't be very tall, I'm leaning more towards a new coaster or flat ride right now.

^ No...Kennywood's is 180 feet and it's a mammoth compared to Six Flags Marine World's. The two tallest things in the park about v2 and Medusa, both at 150 feet, which is the heighest the park is allowed to build ANYTHING.

Wow, a 150ft limit, It must really suck to be that park. They really can build anything good with a limit that low. I'm sure the limit could be rasied if it's ever brought up by the park.

^ I don't think the city of Vallejo is very lenient with the height restriction...I mean they made Six Flags Marine World to modify v2: Vertical Velocity which originally was 186 feet. The impulse was originally like the one that is at SFGAM and Steel Venom and the city of Vallejo actually made them change the layout so it was under the height restriction, now it's at 150 feet just like Medusa. I actually think the ride is better now than it was before, its unique compared to the other impulses. As for what the park could get with the height limit, keep in mind 150 is pretty high. I mean, they could get just about anything...I mean Superman Ultimate Flight clones are only 115 feet and Batman The Ride clones are 105 feet. So depending on what the park wants, I'm sure they would get something with a unique layout. The only coasters that are out of the picture are hypers or any coasters that exceed 150 feet. 2000th post! w00t! |

Thats not true, height may be something that provides thrills and so forth but when I rode Double Shot at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, it proved to me that height isn't everything. A powerfull launch and surprise can be all the thrills you could ever want. I personally feel that this new thing actually may be a hefty coaster. Zonga has had problems, no denying that. It ran one train....since 2003....which is very sad in my eye. I liked the coaster cause it was unique, and interesting, and loads of forces, but it wasn't something I would go to the park for, or ride over and over again. The public didn't seem to like it, and would only venture off to it because of its looks. I really don't know what it could be. My inner dream says they would make a uber compact Invert...that would be sweet. Maybe a dive machine, but I think thats licensed to BGT or something. Its up in the air...I'll have to wait it out and see.

Zonga has been neutered and refurbished so much that it is no longer the Thriller that it used to be. Without any certain facts, like a designer, or height, it's hard to speculate as to what it will be, if the park will get anything. |
