Talking Cedar Point moving in 2003

SANDUSKY, OH (WR/RN) --- Cedar Fair, L.P. (NYSE: “FUN”) a publicly traded partnership which owns and operates six amusement parks and five water parks, has announced it will be moving the amusement park of Cedar Point to the mainland.

The second oldest amusement park in the United States, it has grown by leaps and bounds since its founding as a beach and bathhouse in 1870. Expansion of all the properties, including hotels and campgrounds has limited the expansion of the amusement park.

"We discussed many options, such as removing the parking lot, and busing people to the park" said Richard L. Kinzel, president and chief executive officer, "but in the end, the cost factor of the fuel and electricity for busses and monorails would have made it too expensive to expand the park, meaning our next record breaking roller coaster wouldn't be built until 2035."

The park will be moved at the end of the season. Much of the moving of the amusement rides will be quite simple, as many were designed as traveling carnival rides, and thus will collapse into their own trailers and be sent to the new site via semi-truck. Each of the roller coasters will be moved separately in a delicate fashion. Wheels from discarded shopping carts used at the Sandusky K-Mart will be placed at the bottom of each support column. Workers will then push each roller coaster to the beach where the wheels will be exchanged for pontoons, which then will support the roller coaster as the workers push it out onto the water. The roller coasters will then float down Lake Erie until they reach the new site, where fishing lines will catch and haul them to shore. The coasters will then be re-wheeled and moved to their new homes.

Says Kinzel "This move will allow us to save our popular roller-coaster, the Magnum XL-200, which has been sinking since 1989. We have done erosion and soil tests at the new site and have found a place suitable for the roller-coaster."

The amusement park is being moved to an undisclosed power plant on Lake Erie. Recently acquired by Cedar Fair, the plant and park will be renamed "Sawmill Creek Gasworks." The Soak City section of Cedar Point will remain on the Cedar Point peninsula, as will the hotel, campground, and marina. People from the hotel will be shuttled to new park via shuttle boat on Lake Erie.

The remaining parts of the old amusement park will be turned into a beer garden, sponsored by Meisterbrau, the breakfast of champions, and will feature expanded hotel and campground facilities.

The new facility will open the first weekend in May of 2003. On hand to open the park will be a 8 hour musical performance from Donnie and Marie Osmond, as well as special guest "The Blue Boys", the hot new boy band featuring 5 hairless nine year olds, whose hit "Doing it all night with me" has been climbing the charts.

that is sooooo not gonna happen...if they run out of space..then they just got knocked out of the most coasters race, since they only way to add more coasters, is to dismantle a coaster or take out a lot of flatrides and paths.

Dude, do you actually believe that???? if so, you will also like to know that aliens will come from the center of the earth and land in Alabama, and Nostradomas's final prophecy that was kept secret till this day, states "in the year 2020, a band of sex-crazed demons will impregnate an alarming amount a young women, and they will eventually be destroyed by hundreds of priests trained by the Vatican".....lol

Six Flags will be getting a new ride next year called "Your Mom"... Supposedly, Cedar Point is planning a bigger version called, "Giga Mom", while PKI is making one with a loop called "Son of Your Mom"... be sure to ride all three in 2003...
