Why Build New Rides?

People talk about new coasters going in at Cedar Fair and Six Flags parks, but why? Now...you might have to think economics here for a second. Both of these chains have noted a steady increase in attendence over the past few years. Each year the interval has been about the same...4-6%. The thing is, is that not all those years they built rollercoasters or attractions. So why invest in an attraction, when you know reguardless that you're going to (roughly) get the same amount of visitors each year. If anything, I'd rely on a "trend" theory where the public looks to a park to add an attraction every other year or so. But there's also the people (like us) who go reguardless of new rides and such. I know that "Anhieser-Bush" put out a press release saying that they're not planning on any major improvments in the next few years, and it's probably because they know we'll keep coming back no matter what. Granted..."Bush" operates more on alcohol then anything else, but the other parks have to stop sometime. Just a thought...feel free to respond.

First off, they get new attractions so people keep coming back again and again. They also get new rides so attendence will go up even higher. CP, in the last 15 years, has been building coasters at a constant pace. Thats just what they do. CP also builds record breaking coasters which boosts park attendence/popularity. Parks build coasters=more people come, parks get money.

Right, if they don't add anything new, then I won't go back.

And now parks need to think about taking out old rides that are outdated, like they're doing at KBF and put new ones in.

With the internet, and new thrill rides, there is a new wave of fans that can travel all over the country. I travel to where ever the newest, biggest, tallest, ride is located.

I live in South Florida, went to IOA 2 times this year. They have nothing new planned for next year (meaning, they haven't told us anything). Am I going back next year? Probably, but I won't be hyped about it. I've been on everything, I want a new thrill.

What can I say, I'm spoiled. I know that in the past, parks only add a new ride every couple years. But now I expect them to add something new every year.
