Well here is what Screamscape says:

Quote:
Future Expansion Plans - (3/14/06) Kennywood is talking a bit more about what they plans to do with the extra land they are buying around the park. There is no timetable, but the overall plan includes a new water park, a hotel and 8.5 acres to add to the park for several new rides and a new “signature” attraction in an area that is now the Union Railroad yard “in neighboring Duquesne.” From the sounds of things the plan is to build an indoor waterpark that will be attached to the hotel so that they can run it all year round, and you can bet that they’re working on an idea for a new coaster.
(12/5/05) A Mon Valley nonprofit group will be working with the park to develop their expansion plans.
(7/7/05) Kennywood announced their full support for the completion of the Mon-Fayette Expressway that will create better access to the park. IN light of this, they have also announced that the park has purchased “23 brown field acres” with the intent of expanding the theme park. They plans on expanding the park by 30 acres by 2015 and in addition to new rides and bigger coasters they also are looking at possible plans for a hotel and indoor waterpark. Work on the new site could begin as early as 2010. You can read more about the local area land purchase here. Before these other project start however, the park is also working on plans to build a bridge from the parking lot to the entrance of the park to use in place of the tunnel that currently goes under the road.

^I already knew all of that. I have been following this expansion like a hawk because i'm so exited so in the next few years you can count on hearing bits and peices more, along with possibly some kind of major construction and cleaning up in that part of the park in 09 or 10, about the expansion. Untill then though, just count on a small flat the 2-3 flats in the next 5-6 years to hold us over untill the expansion happens. I deas for flats could be maybe a ferris wheel maybe an observation tower would be cool, stuff with small footprints considering the space problems. You can count on at least another Hyper coaster, most likely B&M, a woody twister, possibly a hillside mine train coaster, a Huss Giant Frisbee, a couple more flats, and a Hotel w/ water park for the expansion

^It would be cool if hey use the old builings from the train yard in an attraction. An observation tower would be pretty cool too. If they do get anything, it would have to have a huge capacity and a small footprint.

What authority do you hold to guarantee such lavish promises? I definitely do not see the need for another hyper with the Phantom being such an amazing one. What Kennywood needs is a solid B&M looper...

^I've never been to Kennywood (but would like to) but a B&M goes great anywhere!

Kennywood has always emphasized families being able to ride coasters as well as rides together. If you think about it very few of the rides at Kennywood have height limits over 48 inches. Also, just look at the park's last few flats they have put in. With the exception of King Kahuna, Aero, Swing Shot, and Cosmic Chaos all have height limits 48 inches or under. The thing about a B&M looper is that not everyone in the family can ride a B&M looper, mainly because almost all of them have height limits of 54 inches. I mean even the Steel Phantom didn't have a height limit of 54 inches, it was at 52. And the SLC that Kennywood was originally planning to put in before Swing Shot, would have also been around 52 inches as well. Although 52 inches is taller than 48, it's not as big as a difference as 54 inches would be. Really, if Kennywood gets another steel coaster, its highly likely the coaster won't have inversions. That's why I suspect that the coaster could end up being a B&M hyper.

Besides, right now B&M just doesn't bring in enough money to justify a $20+ million dollar investment into their park. Until the Mon Valley Expressway opens up, the only kind of new coaster we might see is a GCI or GG wooden coaster, only because those run relatively cheap compared to a large B&M coaster.

^yeah, GM Jerome Gibas even stated that he would not put inversions into the park under any circumstances.

I mean he didn't say he wouldn't put them in at all, afterall they were planning to build a Vekoma SLC before they decided on SwingShot. But, they just don't think looping coasters have big of a draw on families as non-looping coasters do.

Well, it would be nice to get some kind of looping coaster. Idoubt that we will be seeing one in '08-'09 though. If KW does put one in, I hope it uses the terrain to its advantage.

Chances are they'll put a new wooden coaster in before they put a new steel coaster in. Mainly because they are cheaper and fit the area of money KWP is willing to spend on a ride. Also, we might not even see any new coasters at all until the Mon Valley Expressway is complete, considering that's when they'll be starting this expansion they're talking about. And that's not going to be done for another 3-4 years. But hopefully they do put some kind of new coaster in to hold us over until the expansion is built.

If the want a new coaster that the whole family can ride, why not build a small Vekoma looper? Double Loop at GL is a great family looper.

I think a Giant Wheel would be cool. It would provide some really good views. Only problem, KW has almost no space to waste.

^ Well, Giant Wheels and Observation Towers both have the same effect, and Kennywood needs something like that, plus, the both have small footprints. Sky is the limit with them

A Vekoma Boomerang would Be cool and I think the hight limit is only 48 inches. I would love to see one of those. There great fun.

Jerome won't do it. He has said no inversions. It just isn't family friendly. Hell I have a 5 year old I wouldn't subject to a headbanging on a boomerang.

^^I don't know many people that would wish a Vekoma boomerang on any park. I certainly don't find them very fun.

Did anybody else catch the article in the Post-Gazzete today? Sounds pretty cool, what with the TVs and all. I think free ringtones are a plus too. Not to mention being able to vote(with your phone) what song the park plays.

I wonder which park will be first to copy KW's new idea. I really like the idea of the LCD TVs and all the stuff they will use them for.

Woah! It's all for '07? Sweet! KW continues to do some pretty awesome stuff. KW almost always starts the big park trends. With all the stuff they are doing, KW is really starting to become a must-visit park as much as CP is. I mean, KW just has the coolest #%&@!

^CF will probably take onto Kennywood's idea if it's a hit. If Kennywood got a B&M I'd have to go.
