Disney Branson?

Could there be a Disney Branson?

Here is an article from Theme Park Insider:
Quote:
Walt Disney Company linked to project in Branson

2007-04-22 By Ben James: I found this story on ksdk.com:
Could the Magic Kingdom be coming to southwest Missouri?
Speculation is increasing around Branson after a request for road improvements for a $1.1 billion theme park in Newton County.
Such rumors of the Walt Disney Company opening an attraction in Branson were common about a decade ago. But the recent road improvement request has county commissioners investigating whether Disney is involved in the theme park proposal made earlier this month.
A Springfield company called ARM Risk is behind the project. An early proposal includes the purchase of about a thousand acres of land. A hundred acres would be set aside for the park, and construction would include six hotels, 95 shops, 27 rides, 12 stages and 18 restaurants.
Officials at Disney declined to comment on a possible theme park in Missouri.
The Disney link arose when commissioners noticed that two of the three ARM owners have offices in Burbank, California, and Lake Buena Vista, Florida -- the corporate offices of Walt Disney
Company and Walt Disney World Resort.

Do you think it's possible? Vote in the poll.

I think that it is possible for Disney to build a park in the Midwest there is lots of travelers coming to the Branson area every year. Plus there is a lot of people in the Midwest that take weekend getaways to the area. And anything with the Disney name will attract people and it is in a good location being almost in the middle of the country much closer to most than either the Florida or California parks.

This is not happening. Disney will never build another full fledged park in the US outside of there two resorts already, plain and simple. There simply is not the market for three Disneys in the US.

IMO, Disney should focus on other places other than the US. Look at Australia, it seems like a good place to add a park because of the amount of space, being close to big cities and it would help with tourism in the area. South America should be a canidate for another theme park for Disney. If they expand to those 2 places, then Disney's already on 5 continents.

If Disney was to build another park in the US, it would not be in Branson. The climate prevents a park there to operate year-round. Personally, I wish Disney would build another park in Orlando. A thrill park to compete with Universal Studios IOA. South America would be a good place to go next, somewhere 20 to 50 miles outside one of the larger cities of Argentina or Brazil.

^Thats a good point. Disney will probably not want to build a park where it cannot operate year-round. I agree, it would be nice to see Disney develop another park complex dedicated to thrill rides instead of kiddie/family rides. I doubt it would ever happen, but it would be something I'd like to see.

Though I laugh at the thought of a full park being built in the US, there could be some SLIGHT merit to this "Site based entertainment" that Jay Rasulo has been speeking about and that is in the Year-End report.

Also, keep in mind (once again, knowing that it will never be in MO) that it snows regularly in both Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disneyland. So I don't believe that is an issue.

^This is what I was thinking as well. Maybe something small as Rasulo suggested, but no chance of a big park there.

I could see something like a Downtown Disney-esque entertainment and shopping district thing coming to branson. Theres been one rumored for texas for awhile... I think houston? Not sure about that though.

Yeah a Downtown Disney type attraction would go nice in Branson but I don't think that they would have as many night clubs if any depending on Branson's alcohol laws.

But $1.1 billion of road improvements just for a Downtown Disney type attraction seems like a lot in my opinion.

Would this park be really neccasary? I mean, why don't they keep Disney in the more populated areas? I wouldn't be mad if they built one in Branson, but I would see it as a waste of money.

I don't think it's a good idea. I think right now Disney needs to focus on the parks it has already.

I guess you guys didn't hear that the story was completely bogus and Disney has no intention of buying land in Missouri. One source posted the story and the wires picked up on it only to find it was a fabrication shortly afterwards. Sorry guys, but no Disney park for the Midwest.

This sort of move makes no sense. For starters look at the area. it has nothing to do with the The fact that It can't be opened all year. Disney has many indoor rides. and dollywood is only closed a few months a year. That's a better season then any of the foreign parks. But it's too close to Florida.

Why build a park that close to an existing park. Ohio I could understand, Texas, NY/new England area. Create a smaller local experience. But if your going to travel down south you might well go to Florida.

The location already has a lot of parks. yes the Disney name has a lot of pull but up till now Disney started in that area not the other way around.

Overall they need to work on the properties they have. add some attractions to the Florida parks. MK,MGM, and AK need attractions to bring there capacity up. DCA needs to be fixed up. Lets get what they have Squared away first.

Who would contact the Branson area and give theme a fake company name and a Disney number? That is just stupid. And really not much of a practical joke if it is one.

First, the entire project was a hoax by developers to drive up real eastate costs. They do it all the time with Disney, Flags and Dollywood "rumors."

Second, it was not in Branson, it was actually closer to Joplin which is close to nothing.

Third, it is not gonna happen.

^ Exactly.

Plus, Disney has stated over and over again they have NO plans for another US park anytime soon.

There have been rumors flying for years that they will build a park on the NC/SC coasts.

If Disney builds another state-side park, it will be in Anaheim.

I do think it would be cool if Disney were to build a park in Branson. It would not have to be like the typical theme parks they have. More of a California Adventure type place with larger rides, and more of a classic park theme, like boardwalks, piers, Luna, Coney Island and stuff. I heard a rumor years ago that Disney already owned land over there and were simply waiting for the roads to accomodate the type of crowds it woudl draw before they built anything out there. It seems this is no more than a rumor still, but it's still fun to imagine. I personally had no opinion on it being true or false (though all signs now point to false) but if it ever happened I'd be thrilled. I think they have a market in the U.S if it's something unlike anything we have seen from a Disney park before.

While would be nice it's not practical. DCA is Considered a flop. That's why so much of it is being re-imagined. So any future parks would need to be between DCA and The standard Disney parks. Which is possible but costly. For every other park in the US that's that many more people that won't travel to CA or FL to visit those parks. So unless there mini Disney worlds with Down towns and Hotels to bring in extra money it's not overly practical.

also With other Projects like the American adventure park in VA they had planed they played off of local Tourism and Local History. There are already to major parks playing off of whatever Tourism that area gets. Disney would do well but wouldn't do great.
