Worlds of Fun 2008

At Screamscape on the Worlds of Fun News and Rumors page, there is a mention of a possible wooden coaster coming in 2008 or 2009, apparently dependent upon whether or not Dorney gets a coaster next year. I think Worlds of Fun could really use a large, intense, fast wooden coaster. Timberwolf is great, but old and a new wooden coaster would go great regardless. One great place might be where the slides used to be or behind Finish Fling.

Also I think its a bunch of crap that Worlds of Fun gets clones of other CF coasters. Patriot sucks compared to what it could have been. Patriot is small, short, lame, and a worse-versioned almost-clone of Talon. Its great in the front seat, otherwise the ride is fairly dull. No air on a zero-g-roll or camelback hill? Not to mention its seven cars per train, so it has a lower capacity. Mamba didn't even come until various other Cedar Fair parks owned hypers very similar to it. I think it is time to break a streak of clones at Worlds of Fun, the park that hosted the Orient Express, Timberwolf, the first stand-up coaster ever, and the Zambezi-Zinger, and that ride really, really delivered. Maybe the next coaster won't even be woodie, I am just hoping it is intense, original, fast, and not a disappointment. Even if not a coaster, we could at least do with a Giant Frisbee...

^ Sounds like you really wouldn't be happy with a giant Frisbee as it would be a clone of maxair. I liked this park and patriot was fun Timberwolf was really rough in the back and if they build a woody I hope they do a Hades or Voyage type coaster...

You just got a coaster, you wont get another one for a few more years.

I would be very happy with a Giant Frisbee, as I am extremely happy with Zulu, Detonator, Cyclone Sam's, and Thunderhawk.

I also don't believe that just because WoF got a coaster last year, doesn't mean they can't get one next year. Cedar Point spits out coasters like crazy, and if they don't get a coaster each year, they at least get a new flat. Worlds of Fun got nothing this year, only overdue improvements. Next year would be AMPLE for another coaster.

I don't deny that Patriot is fun, but hey so is Boomerang...Patriot was a half-assed effort by Cedar Fair.

Don't compare WoF to CP. CP is the flagship park. They always get coasters and major improvements. It takes the other parks quite a few years to get something as big as a coaster. You won't get another coaster for a few more years. I can see a new flat but not a coaster. No way that would happen.

Is WOF a flagship park? No. Just because Cedar Point gets coasters every other year, dosent mean WOF is. Your lucky that you got a new coaster. THere are other parks in the chain who haven't recieved a coaster since 1999 or 2000. I don't see how next year will be "ample" for them.

There have been rumors floating around about a 2008 coaster for WoF for years. These aren't just the ravings of Screamscape. And you can't look at me with a straight face and tell me that CP is the only park that ever gets coasters every other year. In fact, WoF itself got Spinning Dragons two years before Patriot.

By the way, bEnCeRiSbAcK, I don't think you've actually ever ridden Patriot if you think the zero-g has no airtime. I'm sure even Alan would agree that Patriot has a superb zero-g roll (better that Alpie's, B:TR's, Talon's, Raptor's, and Great Bear's combined).

Yeah I do agree the Zero-G had some nice air but the rest of the ride didn't have as much as WoF said it would have. Though I dont agree that it was better than Alpie's, B:TR's, Talon's, Raptor's, and Great Bear's combined. It was just average.

I have ridden patriot, and got no air whatsoever on the zero-g-roll. Even if WoF isn't the flagship park, look at other parks in the chain - most have a ton more than WoF does.

Same here. I would ride it anyday, not like it was bad. It was a fun smooth ride but it have the kick I was expecting. Great addition to the park though. They need a nice intamin coaster.

Oh, and the 0 G had alot of airtime when I rode it. It was my first inverted 0 G roll. I thought the ride had some nice airtime.

No they don't...Most of the CF parks have 9 or less coasters excluding Cedar Point and Paramout.

Alan, that roll is not average. It just isn't. It's the only one I've ever ridden that actually feels like zero g's.

Will you please stop being so condescending? There's no reason for you to be such a b!tch to me all the time and I want it to stop. You seem to think you're better than me because you're about a year older, you've been on more coasters, and you're on staff at a couple sites, but in reality, you're a VF! fanboy with an ego the size of a small planet. The only reason you hate WoF is because you can't get it through your thick skull that there just might be a park outside of Sandusky that's better than VF!, so you make yourself hate everything at every other park. It's not cool. It's not attractive. It's idiotic and immature.

But for your information, yes, I have been on Raptor, B:TR at SFGAm, Alpengeist, Patriot, Great Bear, and Talon (and I am probably forgetting a few). And Patriot's zero-g roll is VERY different from all of those. Like I said, the only reason you loathe it is because you think VF! needs to be better than other parks, so you go with ridiculously high expectations that you could never possibly fill.

In short, shut up and leave it alone.

^Excuse me? I don't know if you've noticed, but Topdrag (sorry, "Alan") has a way of talking down to people. And I don't see what was idiotic and immature about my post. Topdrag has been pushing me and pushing me for months and I'm sick of it. It's about time someone put him in his place.

I hate to do this, I really do, but I'll have to stamp my official warning on this thread, which means the next time a moderator spots more flaming, it may be necessary to close it temporarily, at least until all of you cool down.

Just try to keep your emotions in check and not let it get the better of you and everything will be fine. I'm sure you all can do just that.

Worlds of Fun has 5 including Spinning Dragons, so its 4 major coasters including a boomerang.

Patriot's zero-g is far worse compared to anything I have ever been on, and if anything I AM a WoF fanboy... - Kumba, Kraken, Montu, DD: Fire, BTR, HULK, Top Gun, Raptor - I am just saying I don't get why Patriot had to be so mediocre, and could not have been something big.

^^You're the only person I've ever heard of not liking that perfect zero-g roll. Seriously, it is PERFECTLY designed. There's nothing "mediocre" about it. You need to ride it again, in the back row on either the far right or the far left.

ANYWAY...
Here's my theory for the next three seasons.
2008: Screamin' Swing
2009: GCI woodie
2010: OOF expansion

After that it's anyone's game. I would love the woodie to be in Orient's old lot with an entrance in Scandinavia. The screamin swing could replace half the arcade next to Timber Wolf. And OOF will need to expand to compete with Schlitterbahn.
WoF desperately needs to make use of the huge plot of land currently occupied by Heart of America Theatre. It would be very nice if they would get it up and running with some kind of night show.
The other big piece of land is currently sat upon by the ghost town section of the train ride (this only accounts for a portion of the land, but it gives you an idea of the space). I could absolutely see a small launched coaster going here to spice up Europa, or even a giant frisbee.

I could see a similar thing happening as to what steel said. I think a GCI woodie, probably similar to Renegade, could be coming in 2008 or 2009. Probably just a flat ride next year, or a big water park expansion to compete with the new Schlitterbahn water park in 2008, or, hopefully, both.

As to where they would put the coaster I think a good spot would be behind Zulu where the old water slides were, and where the Zambezi Zinger had some portions of the ride. I think it would be better because Patriot and Spinning Dragons are right by OE's old lot.

I think maybe an Australian themed section would be good, there is none, but where? A GCI would be perfect back in our woods, WOF has great terrain.

Now new ride in 08 -- they could have the coaster in the Orient Express lot and have the entrance for it be in Europa. They won't put it back in the Plunge lot due to the topography of the land (it's extreme) and the fact they use that area for a very popular HAUNT

Thanks for teaching me something about the park. Now the whole balloon theme and the Orient Express made sense.

I knew that, it is already 2008. However, they could still use the haunt even though the coaster goes there. I think it would be even scarier, especially if it is outdoor, to see and hear the roar of a wooden coaster flying past you. I've never been to Halloweekends, or whatever it is now, so I wouldn't really know, but I'm guessing that haunt is Camp Gonnagitcha

Like CF cares about Hunt's old theming.
I mean come on, how many Boomerangs are in Africa?
They are getting better tho. Spinning Dragon and Patriot fits.

Now, if anyone knows when WOF is getting a new ride,
it would be DHollon. Props.
