| Six Flags Great America 2008?
The rumors on Screamscape are starting to pick up. It has been said that any or all of the three Deja Vu's could be removed. If any of them would be removed, it would be my opinion that the SFGAm version would be the most logical since it's down often, probably more than the other two. There has also been possible word that Splashwater Falls could be removed as well as the car ride which I think s near it or right next to it. I've only been on Splashwater Falls once or twice and never on the car ride so without looking at a map, I can't place where exactly in my mind, where the two rides are located in the park. I do think those two rides as well as Deja Vu are near each other. So if all of those rides are removed, what goes in that area? Would it be a new coaster, some flat rides or perhaps another kid section? Now today, there was a mention of some site markings near Superman-Ultimate Flight inside the park as well as outside. If this is true, what could this be. For those not very familiar with the park, Deja Vu and Superman are nowhere near each other so if all those rumors of site markings and ride removals were true, this would be two totally different projects.

I think they should get a Dive Machine. Those look fun.

^ seems like I heard some rumor that Busch has signed a 5 year agreement with B&M to only build dive machines for them. That could of course be false info though. You know, as huge as Chicago is (and I know SFGrA isn't right next to Chicago, but it's close) you'd think that the park would have a lot more coasters than say, Carowinds. Charlotte is probably what 1/3 the size of Chicagoland, kinda weird. I think a floorless would be a better choice. Griffon was fun, but it's kinda a one trick poney to me. Whereas a floorless or sitdown looper is a much longer ride.

I think the same thing about SFGAm and Chicago. The park is one of the biggest in the Six Flag's chain and you also have one of the biggest metropolitan areas in the US and compared to a couple other SF parks and parks in different chains too, it hasn't gotten as much. I can't complain too much since the park hardly has been neglected by any means. It's just interesting that SFMM and SFGAd received some marquee coasters over the last few years and SFGAm certainly hasn't. What I think it is has to do with the situation that SFGAm is in. Many other parks either have very close competition or depend on the tourism idustry a great deal. So in either of those two cases, they need to get big attractions. With SFGAm, the city of Chicago is close enough as well as other moderate size towns and cities that they need the tourism as much as other parks. Also because there is no nearby amusement park, they don't have to worry about competition. So people are going to come almost no matter what. As for a possible new coaster, I would hope for a floorless coaster. And like you Wes, I think the Dive Machine's are/look awesome, they do seem like a one trick pony. And that might sound weird coming from a big fan of Top Thril Dragster and someone who wants to ride Kingda Ka, it doesn't look like the Dive Machine does a whole lot so far. The vertical drop idea seemed amazing with Oblivion(?) when it came out so long ago. Now 90 degree drops are almost a dime a dozen. Today, we havewooden coasters almost that steep and steel coasters beyond 90. I watched a video of Griffon and it does look cool and I would hardly be disappointed in one, I'd just prefer some other stuff first. Also, right now, I can't see Six Flags spending a lot of money on a single coaster ruling out a Dive Machine in my mind.

SFGam has a huge problem with where they are. The village of Gurnee has forgotten that it received most of it's tourists from the park as when Marriott originally built the park Gurnee was nothing but a gas stop on the other side of the airport. Now Gurnee has many shopping locations including the outlet mall. Every time Great America wants to build something new that is over 100' some of the village people complain and try to block it as they think it will lower their property value when the park is part of what increased the value so much from the 70's...

raser, that is interesting. I know if Deja Vu isn't there next year I will be more hesitant to want to drive 3 hours + hotel for this park. I need to go to another park besides cedar point (its getting boring). If Deja Vu has not run more then it has serviced the public then maybe it is a good choice for it to go. |

Exactly. Deja Vu is an incredible coaster but it seldom operates. Even when it does, the capacity is horrible. I'm glad I got a lot of rides on it over the years and it's a shame that many people haven't but I won't be sad to see it go as long as it's replaced with some other thrillride or coaster attraction and hopefully not a family attraction. Quote:
I know what you mean. People like that drive me nuts. I can't stand people who live near O'Hare airport and complain about the noise. If it's someone who lived there before the airport was built, their complaint is understandable. But considering the airport has been there for decades, most of them weren't living there. The same for Wrigley Field (home of the Chicago Cubs) area residents. They complain everytime there has been a change at the stadium such as night games in 1988 or the more recent stadium expansion. The stadium has been there for nearly 100 years, well before anyone who's alive decided to move there. Also, the area that Wrigley Field is in is an expensive area large in part because of Wrigley Field, not despite of it. So when it comes to residents of Gurnee, I feel the same way. The park has been there for over 30 years. What do you expect moving near an amusement park. I don't think in cases like that, residents should have any say at all. A business should be allowed to operate as they see best as long as it doesn't hurt the environment considerably or in some other way that is illegal. What I said applies to older businesses, not a new one setting down in a residential neighborhood. So it would be a different story if a new amusement park was built in the middle of a community. I would understand those resident's complaints.

A whole bunch more rumors for SFGAm thanks to Screamscape. Who knows how reliable, if at all but I though I'd mention them all the same. The site near Superman-Ultimate Flight seems to be for next year. It's a moderate sized piece of available space depending how far back I would go. The most recent rumor is that could be whatever Six Flags Great Adventure gets next year which is rumored to be some sort of dark ride or inside coaster themed to the new villian in the upcoming Batman sequel which would be the Joker. And about the rumors of the removal of Deja Vu, Splashwater Falls, they're saying they've heard it could be for a 2009/2010 attraction. And you won't believe what they're saying they've heard. A Dive Machine! It's interesting since that was rought up here. I'm not sure about that one but the thought does sound exciting. One idea they had was that it would drop underground and travel under the walkway to continue on to the side where Deja Vu currently is and could also use the splashdown part of Splashwater Falls to have a similar finish like SheiKra. Of course this all rumors but it was interesting enough that I couldn't pass on posting it. Opinions?

How about instead of A Dive Machine, What about an Intamin Fahrenheit Like Coaster with a Loop, a Few More Hills, A Tunnel or 2, and of course longer trains where Ragin Cajun is. Use the Deja Vu/ Splashwater Area for something larger in the Future (Prototype B&M or S&S 4D Coaster Maybe?).

It's nice to hear that this park could be getting something major. You never hear about them alot but i guess each chain has 1 park it overlooks every year.

SFGAM is getting their Dark Knight but it would be nice to get something right up the middle of the alley in looping.

Sheikra was built in 2005. There won't be any non-Busch Dive Machines in America until 2010 or 2011, depending on how you define five years.

Would 5 years be 5 years from the signing of the contract? Or, 5 years from the opening of the coaster.?
