Kings Dominion 2008

With Hypersonic XLC on the way out & GL's Dominator supposedly on the way in it looks like 2008 is gonna be a great year at Kings Dominion.

It's about time that the park added a new coaster with a lift, decent elements & good capacity & Dominator will definitely fill the void left by HSXLC's removal.Of course it's still just a rumor and hasn't been 100% confirmed at this point so I'm still taking things with a grain of salt here but if the rumors of Dominator's removal from GL are indeed true then KD is definitely the park most in need of it.

Why are they removing XLC as I plan on visiting in June next year...? I wanted to compare a thrust-air to an intamin rocket...

Its better. XLC has the most intense launch of any coaster I have ever been on.

I wouldn't mind seeing Dominator being put in, since the park needs a B&M as it is...

I am hating the fact they are letting XLC go, it was such a awesome rush, but Dominator would definately be a great replacement as it has a wonderful capacity, whereas XLC's was horrible. Its about time KD lays off the launch coasters too.

High maintenance/operating costs,low capacity & frequent downtime.

I for one won't mind seeing the ride go & if we do get Dominator from GL as rumored that will certainly be a worthy replacement.

By missing Hypersonic, you're not missing much. It's over before you even know it.

From the queue line you'd see people on the return trip in train bouncing around. Girls bouncing around could be a good and bad thing. There are too few tricks to keep this rough coaster. Launch is nuts but otherwise, especially after getting whacked on the head on top hat, forget it. Grizzly and Hurler have a nice setting together so I'd be happy the odd man would be out.

I agree & with the removal of this one trick pony it could actually bring an increase in ridership tothe other coasters in that area.

I went to KD twice this season & never bothered riding the thing as the capacity was horrible & the lines were long while the woodies nearby were virtually walk ons,or at most maybe a one train wait.

^ Yeah out of all the times I went to KD, the woodies always only had 1 train running and they were still walkons.

Well on the weekends t hey were running multiple trains but not so on the weekday trip I took just last month.

Anyone have any ideas on when we might expect an official announcement for the 2008 attraction?

Sorry for the double post but here's an update on the status of Dominator at GL:

I was reading the GLT forums this evening keeping track of the deconstruction of the rides & apparently dismantling of Dominator has begun with a couple of track sections already removed & in the parking lot being prepped for shipment to KD so it should only be a matter of days before we see the first sections of Dominator's track showing up in KD's parking lot.

Now I tried editing my last post in the KD thread in the parks forum to bump up the thread but doing so didn't help so I just thought I'd post the information here instead.

Track removal would make sense as they need to get the ride to KD.

I wonder, what color do you think the ride will be changed to, as I am hoping that they will give it a new paint job befor installation.
Probably Raptor or Talon colors.

That's a shame if the color really has to change. I didn't think even the blue supports looked bad and needed a paint job. Just watch it become black and a glowing green. I always joked about how it would have been my favorite floorless if it was a Riddler's Revenge @ SFWOA.

Just a guess on my part as to if they will change the color. It looked in decent shape last year when I was there. I just figure if the ride is going to be more or less a signiture ride in the front of the park that it would have a new paint job and maybe a color change to make it stand out.

Orange and blue is so SF Goliath and CF Talon specific so I really hope it doesn't go there or that it goes red. Yuck.

The world's longest floorless, yet it doesn't have a G-roll - Scratches head.

I think Dominator would look nice with dark blue track and silver supports.

How about these colors.

Supports
Cross ties
Track body

Keep the dark blue trains.

They could chose to reuse the Silver Bullet colors from Knotts.
Silver red and yellow.

As long as its dark like that I'm liking it.

I just got a Kings Dominion Season Pass reminder in the mail because I got my MAXX Pass there but there was no mention of 2008 additions, just this year's Halloween Haunt.

I was kinda thinking the same thing myself....I guess we'll see what color scheme they go with depending on how they choose to theme the ride.I'm hoping that they aren't going to go with the overused firehawk name though.

Patriot's color scheme, especially with the white stripe on the spine wouldn't be bad but raptor green or talon orange would be too bright IMHO,at least they won't give it shockwave's butt ugly color scheme thank goodness.

Anyhow,I was checking GLT's forum this morning looking for more de-con updates & there's definitely been some track removal started on Dominator, while the elevated sections appear to be intact there's at least one piece sitting on the ground just in front of the ride.

Dark blue track and Silver supports would look very SFGAM or SFGADV's former Shockwave-like. It gets a thumbs up from me. Might remind you of Drachen Fire as well?

Regardless of the colors chosen the ride will certainly make a fitting addition to the park's lineup of coasters,I'll be sure to make a trip out there in 08 to ride this thing.

The park should be open this weekend so if anyone's going hopefully they'll be able to get an update on the status of the site preps for the new coaster.I'm kinda concerned Chiller since you said you recieved your SP mailer the other day & there were no hints concerning any new attractions but KD has typically added something new every season so I'm still hopeful that they'll announce their 2008 project real soon.

So along with big D going into the park. Anybody hear anything else about Hypersonic being on the way out after this season. I remember its supposed to be its last season. Last I checked it was still for sale on the used rides site.

On one side of the postcard it says Halloween Haunt and its details on the other it mentions the regular, VIP and Platinum Season Pass details. If I act now I can get a free Cedar Fair Pullover Jacket. Shall I get that and donate it to the Geauga Lake bon fire party for all those happy GL fans?

^^Last I heard HSXLC was still standing.

I came across some more recent photos on www.rollercoasterfreak.com showing more deconstruction of Dominator,so far I was able to count at least ten track sections & a couple of supports in the photos so they're really making progress on taking it down.It shouldn't be long before they start shipping some of those track sections to their new home in Virginia.

you guys seem pretty certain that dominator will show up at KD... I thought it was still a rumor.. I mean there have been no sightings that would suggest dominator is heading your way.. why not thunderhawk? I'm just saying, unless you know for sure, I wouldn't get all hyped up about this until the actual announcement... Now, if you do know for sure, then I will be one pissed off Carowinds fan! Hopefully we won't get another ****ty ride and Dominator passes through Virginia on its way to Charlotte!

It's been rumored for well over a month now that Dominator will be heading to KD in 08 & there have been markers spotted in the area where the ride is said to be placed, just to the left of the main entrance(as seen from the parking lot) on international street in between berserker & the toonpike rides.

Thunderhawk is going to MIA by simple process of elimination.KD wouldn't get it because A.they already have V:TBC & B.With ME 2 hours north at SFA KD wouldn't install an exact clone. That's the reason why KD didn't get XF in 07 because it's a clone of Batwing at SFA.

As for Carowinds:they may have a shot at scoring GL's boomerang if they're lucky or they just may get some flats but as far as I've heard no major coaster is planned for them as of yet.

Talking Wait and See

For my part, I am taking a wait and see approach as to what KD gets for 2008. I am not going to hyperventilate over the possibility of getting GL's Dominator for 2008. Other than a few stakes in the ground behind Scooby's Ghoster Coaster, there are no construction markings in the bus parking lot. No spray paint, flags, stakes, nothing.

Carowinds has had one of their parking lots being torn up over the last month. Even the Caorwindsconnection people do not know why the park ripped up the asphalt. A complete resurfacing project, a waterpark expansion, a GL coaster? They are guessing as well. But, they have been having more stuff going on than we have currently at KD.

Rumors are rumors and should be taken as such and not as fact.

We know that KD is not getting a new major coaster like Canada's Wonderland's Behemoth because I am sure Cedar Fair would have promoted it by now and site prep would have been going on for a couple months.

With the exception of CanW, no other CF park has announced their 2008 attraction yet. It is fun to speculate and make guesses about is in store for KD in 2008. But, speculation is one thing, taking it as fact is another.

I posted in another thread months ago that I my guess was a revamped and expanded kiddie area for 2008. I did not think KD would see a new coaster until 2009 or 2010. Course, I had no idea that Geauga Lake ride park would close at the end of this season either.

Will we get some of GL's rides: Dominator, kiddie rides, or flat rides?
Will we get brand new flat ride(s)?
Will we see another expansion of the water park?
Will we get nothing?

Keep Guessing.

this coming season is also Carowinds 35th Anniversary..

and Carowinds has kind of set a pattern where they get a big attraction every four years.. Borg was here '04

Also, Hard Rock Park is being built a few hours away and should be open next year ( I think)

Yea..I forgot about the parking lot.... no new info coming into Carowinds Connection about it either.. all they talk about is how bad Borg is, their tax dollars wasted, and a hypercoaster under the bridge... its just kind of boring
