Kings' Island 2008?

So Cedar Fair has announced their huge expansion project for "all" of their parks. But what about Kings' Island? They didn't mention it in their report. So what will they do there? Will it be some huge project or nothing?

After Firehawk and Nickelodeon Universe, what really do they need than to continue to maintain coaster wheels, replace lightbulbs, landscape, the usual business? Remove more Paramount logos? Probably. Change all those Cedar Fair trashcans - indeed.

WOF & VF were also not mentioned in the cap ex budget for new attractions so it's safe to say that those three parks won't be seeing any new rides in 2008.

I dont think they'll be getting anything in 2008. However, thier is a rumor that they may receive a hyper in 2009, supposedly near the Beast and Tomb Raider.

What i heard was that they would replace vortex with an intamin accelerator (though we can assume that it won't be this year), but they already have two launch coasters. But maybe they would put something by firehawk and flight of fear, cause they have a sign that calls that area the x-base. Then they could complete the area.

I don't know, that sounds really far fetched on so many levels.

Granted, Vortex doesn't have many lines anymore, but that is such a classic ride and has a pretty big foot print to be taken out and put in with a smaller coaster as an accelerator.

Just my two cents, I don't think that will happen. I do hear they will "hopefully" be getting a hyper. They really need that, IMO.

I got an idea:

Melt down Vortex and Italian Job and build the world's longest rocket coaster...Or better yet, a hyper.

Maybe they'll find an Indian graveyard by Beast in the woods. I am very cautious of touching the scenary around Beast.

Vortex has some very big classic shoes to fill if it was to go. It would take something amazing.

Maybe they'll get some sort of Maverick imitation, but bigger, faster, and longer, and with more emphasis on a launch than a steep drop

This is Cedar Fair were talking about...they don't outdo Cedar Point. Cedar Point is god to them.

Also, if something like that was coming, it would be 09 at the earliest. They just got Firehawk this year.

Yes, but Firehawk was just a movement of X-flight at GL (kinda foreshadowed what actually happened).

Very true, but in the general public's eyes, it's really a new coaster. You and I both know it's not new, but to them it is.

Carowinds added the used Stealth in 2004, and we haven't gotten another coaster since.

And I'm sure they really didn't spend that much on the moving of the coaster and setting it up again.

Carowinds really has been on the cheap the past 3 or 4 years.

^ Wes, how many coaster senses do you have? Just kidding, for some reason some parks don't get alot of Major additions, just small things here and there. I believe attendance and the need to improve is the main reason. Carowinds isn't built as a destination like Cedar Point is. Kings Island and Carowinds are local parks, but I could see Carowinds being more with the right push from Cedar Fair....

I do not think that Kings' Island is a local park! When I go there each year (only once or twice), I see an absolute ton of people wearing Michigan clothing, and others wearing apparel from other teams! There can't be that many fans in Cincy! Most people down there root for OSU!

Let's see...I'm psychic, I can predict what Dick Kinzel is thinking at any moment (tear down Geagua Lake!)...hmmm...what else...

You can tell I typed that one out fast. lol

I agree that Carowinds is a regional park, but when they added Borg we broke the 2,000,000 attendance figure (for the 1st time) and for 04 and 05 we had more attendance than SFOG (ATL is what, double our size?)...but we also have a free water park, they just have skull pukey island.

That was my point though (and I have one), KI is a regional park and they shouldn't expect to get a coaster every year, or even every other year.

They currently have 13 coasters, that's a good bit of coasters really. There's Six Flags parks out there that don't have that many coasters.

Of course my first priority would be to get a new hyper or launch coaster at either KI (it would give me a reason to go back) or Carowinds...but honestly, CF could use with taking care of the coasters they already have.

With the exception of Grizzly this year, the CF woodies this year left a lot to be desired. Hurler at Carowinds was good early on, then got worse so did Thunder Road.

As I have stated before, Kings Island does NOT need a new launch coaster. Some parks don't even have one! Maybe it'll be a looping hyper to become the world's tallest looping coaster. I don't know, but KI does not need a launch or wooden coaster.

New or used Firehawk was a 2007 cap ex addition to KI,one that the GP seems to enjoy.KD's 2008 cap ex addition will be Dominator, sure it's a used ride but the folks here in Va. will see it as a brand new addition.

It's safe to say that KI will take 2008 off from adding new rides, even from GL & focus on park improvements while waiting for something new to come in 2009.

Kings Island will add Geauga Lake's Headspin in 2009 and debut it as:

I'm hoping that Kings Island does indeed get a hyper, like many rumors have suggested. Honestly, I think thier entire collection is mediocre at best, so it would really be a great additon. Also, its no local park, it is definately a regional park. It brings in 3 million guest (give or take) a year, and its one of the more popular parks in the chain, with Cedar Point and Knotts being the top two. I think that with it being one of the more popular parks, that it will be become a major focus of Cedar Fair, thus getting more rides. Actually, both Cedar Point and Knotts Berry Farm get some thing every year, to every other year, so the same can be expected with Kings Island.

^^^^If it has inversions, then it cant be classified as a hyper.

^ Canada's Wonderland is the third highest attended park in the chain, with Kings Island coming in after it.

However, Kings Island generates a higher annual gross revenue that's a bit higher than Canada's Wonderland.

For example, in the 2005 season, Kings Island raked in $103 million, while Canada's Wonderland brought in $93 million.

For reference, this is what all the Cedar Fair parks made in the 2006 season (gross revenue) and are ranked by how much bling they brought in for Cedar Fair from most amount of money to least amount:

01. Cedar Point ($210 million)
02. Knott's Berry Farm ($186 million)

03. Kings Island ($103 million)
04. Canada's Wonderland ($93 million)

05. Kings Dominion ($81 million)

06. Great America ($63 million)
07. Carowinds ($60 million)
08. Dorney Park ($56 million)

09. Valleyfair! ($36 million)
10. Worlds of Fun ($35 million)

11. Geauga Lake ($26 million)

12. Michigan's Adventure ($19 million)

I know ScreamScape isnt always the most reliable source, but they are suggesting that Kings Island will get a hyper in 2009, and illustrate two possible layouts. Also, they report that the first drop is 210 feet, the second being 170, and the third dropping into a ravine at around 240 feet.

Im hoping this information is indeed true, but its so damn early, we havent even gone into the 2008 season yet. What do ya'll think?

Don't even look at the "possible layouts" on Screamscape. They were both hand drawn by the editor for something he thinks/wants the park to do if they get a hyper. The layouts aren't even rumored layouts, they're just fantasy layouts.

Screamscape is also the site that said Carowinds was getting a hyper in 07.

They have been better lately, but I wouldn't count your beemers until the track starts showing up in the parking lot.

oh ok. Still though, neither of those rides compare to something like Storm Runner. We need something like that. Or something like the Raptor.
