| Drachen Fire 2 ???
Hey all! I was wondering if anyone has heard the rumour that BGE might do a B&M themed after a "drachen". Personally I loved the ride, and the logo was pretty sweet.

I see no reason for this thread to be locked. It is in the rumors section, and it is a rumor.....I guess. Personally, I have not heard this nor do I see it happening.

I like the idea, again we need a source, but I hope(yes hope) it is not a B&M. Busch has overdone it with all their B&Ms. It is time to see an Intamin.

Even if there wasn't a source there should be a place to test the waters of public opinion. I thought the original was supposed to be a B&M creation. It would definitely look sweet if a new one was built by B&M. I would keep the first half with a GIANT dive loop, of course have a zero g in place of the Arrow camelback into the cobra roll. I maybe would redesign or modernize the second half for a better use of two corkscrews. The sweet, sweet signature spot would be a cutback I've never experienced before. I'd take an Intamin only if it had one of those track crossovers in directions. A new Drachen Fire, floorless or with a sitdown LED train quirk to match the lit trains in the 90's, would thump Dorney Park's Hydra, the B&M family floorless/mine train, any day.

Why was the original ride torn down .I've read somewere that it was in sevice from 1992 to 1998 thats not a long life for a coaster.

The ride was claimed to be way to rough, and they got alot of complaints about it. Right from rcdb: Originally built with 6 inversions. A "diving corkscrew" which immediately followed the brakerun was removed after the 1994 season. The Drachen Fire was shutdown in July 1998. Initial plans were to modify the roller coaster. It was then decided to sell the roller coaster. No buyer was found and the Drachen Fire was taken down so the steel can be recycled starting in the fall of 2001 completely removed by March of 2002. I was lucky enough to go on it the last year it operated. I don't remember it being so rough, but that was about 10 years ago. If this rumor of it coming back is true, they just have to redo the station and transfer shed, since they still remain.

I hate when any part of a coaster is altered but I wonder if instead of the 2 left turning corkscrews that the coaster initially had track after the MCBR could have perpendicularly crossed underneath the 2nd corkscrew, then barely avoiding the station corkscrew right. After the right corkscrew it would have entered the right turning cutback. On the way back the left corkscrew could still exist. I dunno. It's gone and I wonder if the clearance could have existed anyway. I guess the Drachen Fire MCBR was too close to Big Bad Wolf to allow the MCBR to be more away from the cobra roll. That way perhaps that right dive off the MCBR into the left turning removed corkscrew and the left banking after the corkscrew would have been eliminated and replaced with a straight run after the MCBR into a left turning corkscrew exiting immediately straight into that right turning cutback.

Drachen Fire easily had one of the sickest layouts I have ever seen. It seems to go non-stop from start to finish. I think a floorless DF would be awesome.

^That's just what I was thinking. I did have an original (RCT layout) of Drachen Fire and I was able to rebuild it as a B&M Sitdown, B&M Floorless, Standup and Inverted. This is the best coaster that I have never been on, but I do have an old On-Ride POV (official) of this coaster too...somewhere. Be it Busch Gardens or even Cedar Fair/Six Flags, I'd love to see this coaster brought back. Maybe as an Intamin??

The Intamin cobra roll would fit it. The corkscrew diving first drop would so remind me of Stormrunner's half loop.

That would be awesome to get DF back. I never got a chance to ride it at all. I would like B&M floorless, or an Intamin, but for some reason I dont see BGE putting in an Intamin.

Drachenfire's Revenge lives again! I can't believe how many times this coaster gets talked about and it frankly wasn't that great a coaster IMO. It was a rough Arrow headbanger. I think the fact that so many people never rode it, makes it seem so much more appealing. But I would love to see a flyer installed (custom) and called Drachen's Revenge or something to that effect. Coolest things on Drachenfire: glow-in-the-dark trains...and the station.

This is really strange to see this thread as just a few nights ago I had a dream that for some reason DF was still at BGE in SBNO and the big thing for 2008 was that they were refurbing it and it was gonnna re-open that year and be a big deal. As much as I enjoyed the dream when I woke up I faced reality and remembered DF was taken out a long time ago as a major corporate decision. As much as I want to see old blueprints of the ride be brought back to life by B&M, I don't ever see it happening. Much like an Intamin at BGE. If they switched to Intamin I think B&M would actually take it as an insult, damaging good business relationships. Sad, since the only type of new coaster I would like to see at BGE is a launched ride, I really don't care what it is/does so long as it launches. And B&M has vowed never to do another launched coaster again...yeah.

Well technically they didn't do a launch coaster at all. I believe the launch on Hulk was done by another company because B&M wouldn't do it. Yeah, pulling teeth I know.

^Precisely. Universal begged them to do it and they had to go through that stuff, now they say they won't even do the 2-company compromise.

There is no way I would believe that Busch will make an incarnate of Drachen Fire. If BGE decides to build any coaster in the next five years, I think they would get something smaller, not by B&M. Maybe some weird thing Maurer has to offer. Even if B&M builds a looper, or more likely a floorless coaster, I don't think they would name it after Drachen Fire. Also, I'm curious to know what was cool/different about the station? |

| Really it wasn't that different than Alepengeist's station, I just remember it being a very pretty building and I'm a nerd about architecture.

Nice lattice work? I could make out it was a decent station. I rode the park train when Drachen Fire was SBNO, unmentionable, not even on the map but still standing in 1999. It was a coaster geek moment of mine to get a peep about the ride from the train conductor talking during the train ride.

Drachin Fire was one of my Favorite coasters. It was a bit rough but no worse then the SLC's. While It woudl have been nice if B&M built it in the first place like planed I don't see then rebuilding it. I personaly woudl like to see SBE get a wood coaster. the park is dominated by steel coasters. A nice wooden coaster would be a nice change.

I enjoyed the roller coaster when I rode it but I was also in the 3rd grade and my body was quite small and avoided the head banging effect that most people complain about. It was a fun ride, the best part for me was the first inversion/drop, it was really neat. I heard through the grapevine that the only reason it was left SBNO as long as it was, was because an endangered bird or something made a nest on part o the ride and it was illegal for them to destroy or move the nest so they had to wait around, but that was just a rumor I can't confirm this. If anyone has any idea about that, it would be nice to know. I wonder why B&M is so against launch roller coasters? Hulk is great!

^^I heard somewhere that a woodie would be too loud. I don't know, though. I'd love to see what GCI could do with that terrein. ^B&M simply likes to stick to a traditional lift-drop system. Just for that reason. They think it makes for a better coaster. That's my understanding of it, at least.

I would be more than impressed if Busch asked Intamin to design a twisty wooden prefab for the spot where Drachen Fire used to stand. Kindof like Balder, but bigger. Of course, that would take some more of Apollo's Chariot's thunder away from it. It already lost steepest drop in the park. The problem with that whole spot to begin with is how it's so hidden. That partly contributed to Drachen Fire being torn down. About noise, I don't understand how three B&Ms are any more acceptable than a wooden coaster. And as for launched B&Ms, I think it went something like this: Hulk's propulsion system was designed by a totally different company. Therefore, it was a huge hassle for B&M whenever there was a launch problem, because it required the two companies to collaborate, which apparently the guys at B&M didn't like to do. And since B&Ms are normally reliable, a lot of problems were probably more often with the launch than not. So B&M said they'll never make a collaborated coaster again. And I don't think they plan on making their own launch system. I'm just wondering how long til their next new coaster. I mean, they got DF, WM, Alpie, and AC within seven years, and then it took another eight years for them to get just one more. Granted two of them are gone, I still think B&M should get a new one soon. Getting a GCII would be such a Busch thing to do. Get it at one Busch Gardens, then the other. Also, it was the only arrow built with a mid-drop inversion, cobra roll, and cutback. That gives it some appeal too. Last edited by Jerry S; 12-24-2007 at 01:47 AM. |

I thought I heard somewhere Busch is no longer interested in wood coasters for any of their parks. I hope I'm wrong though.

I still want an Irish woody called Banshee. ![]() Yeah the Beemers are all the regular loud roar B&M sound, none of them have sand in them that I'm aware of. So I don't know why the neighbors are ok with that and wouldn't a wooden coaster. My feelings though are if you don't like the noise of an amusment park, don't move in next door! With all the trees in that park though, I can't imagine the noise from the park would be that great either way.
