Unhappy Next Ride Gone At Dollywood

this thread is to talk about the next ride to get taken out at dollywood, which will be a long time with all the room in wilderness pass, and tons of acres to expand, but i think it will be dare devil falls because its like the least popular ride there (even though its great).

Daredevil isn't unpopular, it merely has an extremely high capacity. If there is a line for DDF, you know the park is busy...

Daredevil Falls is very popular, it just has the ability to move guests through very quickly. Pete has said that Dollywood only removes a ride if it is becoming a maintence issue, otherwise new land is used. If a ride were to be removed I would probably say Rockin' Roadway. Most guests and Dollywood have just forgotten Jukebox Junction and Adventures in Imagination are even there .

I notice that a lot of people walk right past Daredevil Falls without even noticing its there, since the ride is tucked back into a corner off the main walkway. (In fact, that might have been the reason why the Flooded Mine wasn't more popular)

I think it would be a good idea to put a sign right in the middle of the walkway below the Funnel Cakes stand to point people to the ride.

However I agree that for the most part the reason Daredevil Falls never looks busy is because it has a very high capacity. The only time I remember the que being completely full all the way to the lockers was the year it opened, and even then the wait wasn't more than like 10 minutes.

Timber Tower... For Sure!

Someone said something about jukebox junction not being popular anymore. I agree to a degree... I would like to see something new in there. It seems that the only thing there is Rockin' Roadway, Reds, and Cas Walkers Store. They need to do something to attract people over to that area...

It dosen't seem that way.... its true. Jukebox Junction has Rockin' Roadway, The Pines, Red's and Cas Walker's.... that is it. That area is landlocked, however, so a new ride is iffy there, I would think.

They could always make a way. It is DW after all... I personally wish they'd merge Adventures in Imagination and Jukebox Junction. Both sections need help. AII is the most loosely based section in the park. To this day I still don't get it. And JJ just need some new rides without jeprodizing the current one...

If that is true, I'd say Timber Tower. Other than that I'd say none.

Now that the old entrance road is closed to everyone except emergency traffic, why couldn't the park build an arch/bridge over the road and continue their expansions on that side of the area? They would have to move the employee buildings, but if it means more guests and increased revenue, then I don't think that would really be a problem. All anyone would have to do is walk over the bridge area.

I still miss Dollywood Blvd. I really liked the idea of Dollywood having a section devoted to film, especially given Dolly's acting history and TV appearances. Dolly has said she would like a children's TV show filmed at the park, so perhaps Dollywood Blvd. could return and a functional TV studio placed in that area. Dolly has also mentioned the possibility of "9 To 5: The Musical" also coming to Dollywood in the future after its Broadway run and Dollywood Blvd. would be the perfect place for it.

There is alot more service and employee facilities on the other side of the access road than you may think. I was certainly surprised at all that was back there when I started working there.

It would require a brand new Human Resources / Administration building, plus new employee parking to be placed somewhere else near the park. Which wouldn't be a bad thing, I am just remarking that it would be a larger expense than you may think to do so.

Also of note, the road is labeled as a 'Trolley / Service Entrance'. Remember that it is also the main artery in which the Fun Time and Gatlinburg Trolley routes can easily and quickly get into and out of the complex without dealing with park traffic.

Thanks for the info tntornadox. I didn't realize all of that was back there. Still, I wonder if they somehow find ways of expanding the different themed areas on that side of the park (Adventures in Imagination, Jukebox Junction, The Village). When you ride the train, you can see where the train maintenance area is and it is right back behind Country Fair. I don't know how they could expand back in that direction without somehow having to hide that from the general public. I do think that, at some point, Heartsongs will have to be removed.

The film has been used since 1994 and if you've seen it two or three times, then it gets rather old. If Dolly would update the movie or something it might still have life in it, but now it seems dated after 14 years. I remember when that building was the Gas Light Theater, I think that was what it was called, and Randy had his show in there. I miss that aspect in all of the expansions. There needs to be shows in all of the different areas so people would go into different sections even if they do not ride the coasters and other flats.

Maybe instead of hiding the train maintenance place, maybe they could clean it up and open it to the public to let us all see what goes on over there....

I would say Timber Tower, but if you think about it, Timber Tower is really the mark or something for "Timber Canyon". Plus i think it really makes the area look nice when its operating.

Dollywood does not need to remove ANY rides. All of their rides appeal to someone... i think thats what they're all about. A thrill fan may not ride Rockin' Roadway, but what about kids and nostalgia seekers? Dollywood needs to improve their rides. Just like they're improving Blazing Fury... How about new scenery on Rockin Roadway, or new splashes on River Rampage, and Blazing Fury... maybe some new artifical trees that werent bought from the WalMart after Christmas sale?

i definetly think they need to add some more splashes on river rampage, or at least when u go under the bridge thing, and all the water is pouring down, keep it going instead of shutting it off when u go under it.

No thanks. Leave the Rampage alone. IMO that ride is just as important to the "soul" of the park as the Dollywood Express or Blazing Fury. It puts the river into Rivertown Junction.

The mechanical funtions idea doesnt seem to work because they removed a coaster once before just to add another one. Whos to say that they wouldnt do that in the future?

I def. think that Thunder Express was removed to add something bigger. Before TN Tornado, Dollywood didn't have a super thrilling coaster. Thunder Express was fun, but not thrilling like TN Tornado. I seriously doubt that the only thing that will be removed from DW anytime soon is Timber Tower. Thats was a waste of 5 million.

Actually Timber Tower costed Dollywood $6.5 million. I wonder if that was for just the Timber Tower or if it was for Lumberjack Lifts, Lil Logger's Landing, Lumbercamp restraunt and the theming of the whole area.

^ So true! Some of their existing rides do need a bit of modification. River Rampage definitely! There only one good spot for someone to get soaked. It's still a good ride though.

I don't think Daredevil Falls is on the radar for being moved at all. That would really be insane to remove that ride. I do notice people walking by it, but even though thats true the line is always full when I ride it.

I dont know what to think is the next ride to be removed. I don't think there is any rides on target to be removed soon. (But there is one that is on thin ice)

But I do know that some of the rides do need some updated!

The Rampage has been basically the same since 1986.

There needs to be some special effects added to Daredevil Falls.

I actually hope they take Timber Tower out soon. Every other time I go its broke down, and when it actually is working, its a boring boring boring boring boring ride.

I will have to say that timber tower was up most of the two days i was there. It was down some. I rode it one time. I thought timber tower was the scariest ride i rode. I kept thinking my harness (or whatever you call the thing that holds you in) was going to release when the tower leaned over. I would have ridden it again but didn't get the chance. If they can get it ironed out i think it would be cool to keep it as it is fairly unique. I do understand getting rid of a ride that is more trouble than it is worth though. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens!
