Sdc 2009

SILVER DOLLAR CITY will be adding their own Splash Battle next season in the Midtown Area of the park replacing the old Tom Sawyer Landing with the new TOM & HUCK'S ADVENTURE. The current Tom Sawyer Landing area is now behind a fence, which means that the Balloon Chase and Carousel are no longer available to park guests. The net fortress that is also in the area is also slated to be removed. It has been closed quite frequently the last two years, and is not that big of a surprise that is will be removed.

The current park map for SDC has a "New Ride for 2009" stamp over Tom Sawyer Landing, so excavation work should begin soon.

There are still whispers that this will not be the ONLY thing added to the park next year, so we'll see...

Awesome. It's nice to see more parks picking this attraction up. Maybe Cedar Fair will buy a dozen

SDC theme looks really nice as well.

Maybe Six Flags could buy one and they'll probably theme it to Tony Hawk?

I'm glad I know what this SDC item is because with the WoF addition I was already delaying my Missou trip for next year.

I guess it's time for me to punch the ticket and become an ACEr - 10 years waiting.

Trust Me. You really don't want to do that. Their events are way over priced and the money goes to nothing or their "Coaster Museum" that will never get built.

There are alot of other coaster clubs that have better events at half the cost and half the membership fee and you get alot of free perks with some. ACE has a free magazine but you'd be lucky if you got July's issue by October or ever get any issues.

I know its not the place to talk about it here but just though i'd point that out.

^I've been an ACEr for 5 years now and honestly I have had the best time at the ACE events. While the National Events might be overpriced, the regional events are where all the fun times are. You speak as if you have had a bad experience with ACE. If that is the case, I'm sorry about that, but please do not condem the entire organization just because you have had some bad times with it or its members.

Im just going to tell you all, dont expect the water to come out of those guns how they look in the artwork. The ride is from mack, and DW'S just squirts out a little thing of water......But its still fun

SDC has been playing with the technology all this year to make it more of a "firm squirt" for both the boat and land guns

There are some construction pics of the wall here: SDCFans Galleries - New Ride Prep/Culinary Arts School Update

Not a whole lot has happened yet, just a wall.

I still think they could get a coaster on top of that, and if they don't I think CC will. CC could really use one since they only have one major coaster. Let's just hope it isn't a spinning coaster or a wild mouse...for either park.

I was just down in Branson staying on Indian Point last week. I didn't get to go to either park nor White Water, but the work they are doing for the new parking lot really caught my eye. If SDC would be able to do what Waldameer did with Ravine Flyer II and jumped over the road down into the incredibly deep valley on the other side, I think they could make an incredible terrain coaster of any kind - not that the terrain on their own land isn't ideal enough...I just hope they can see the same potential that I see.

I really don't get why they're adding another water attraction like this. They already have Geyser Gulch and that other kid's area right by it. It's their business though, and they run it how they want to.

I always thought the next coaster they built would be by the Grand Exposition area close to the road, similar to what they did with Thunderation. I bet they will just move some of the old Tom Sawyer rides over there this season. Which brings me to another point, why can't they spread out their flat rides instead of putting them in the same area, The Grand Exposition (with the exception of The GIANT Swing).

They are adding this attraction because it is a completely different experience from anything that they currently have in their line-up -- and because the ride has been successful at Dollywood, who coincidentally has an area just like Splash Harbor at the park at their park as well.

Regarding the flat rides, the reason why you do not see flat rides in other places in the park is because they are more difficult to theme to the 1880s then other rides. Also other rides besides flat rides are much easier to hide from the midway. Containing all of the flats in a section themed to a fair is easier to explain why you can see the rides from the midway.

Maybe I'm not fully understanding the concept. What exactly will you do? In the concept art it looks like you'll just be squirting each other with water guns. Do you get in the water, or float on rafts, or what? I looked up River Battle at Dollywood but those pictures were pretty vague as well.

Ben, yes you ride on rafts around a lake and shoot at targets and other people -- those people can squirt you back

Well, here's a few updates:
The big new 2009 ride is coming along, with much of the area it's set to take up having been cleared of the two rides and the play structure that were once there. They've left a lot of the water works that run through the area in tact, so one wonders how they are going to position this ride in the area. All we know for now is that it will be a Splash Battle themed to Tom Sawyer. I've got a few photos of the clearing here: SDCFans Galleries -

The new culinary arts school is nearly complete. It's set to open Sept. 11 and will offer mainly cooking courses. Some shots of it here: SDCFans Galleries -

And finally, SDC has been beefing up it's parking lot structure, but the process has taken months longer than expected due to torrential rains. Now that it's getting hot and dry again, it's picking up, but there's months of work left to do. I've got a few shots of what has been done so far here: SDCFans Galleries -
