this is a huge waste of space in my opinion. if theyre gonna take out the flume...replace it with something more worth it than a wave pool. the waterpark STILL sucks after they add this.

I also think that a wavepool is a waste of space... I recall there being several news articals about deaths in wavepools run by cedarfair.

I'm willing to settle for a clone of a B&M at this point... clones are cheaper since they have already been designed, right? I wouldn't mind a Hydra clone (under 13 mil) or a Raptor clone (under 11.5 mil)...

^ Umm.. No?

One major factor for prices is the price of steel. Right now a Raptor clone would be around 20 million. Also CF is not the company that would clone a ride for a major investment for a park. They know better than to do that.

As for the wave pool. I don't like the idea of it as I see it as wasted money and space. Though this thought might brighten your day. Wave pools hold a lot of people and people tend to stay in them. That will mean the waterpark will hold more people. This in return will make the lines for rides in the park shorter.

Good things can happen with wasted space.

I don't see this as a waste of space. The waterpark is always too crowded, this will help with the capacity of the waterpark. It is something that is definately needed.

Nor do I, I think it's a wise investment. The waterpark was left with no additions for 16 years. That's extremely long, and it needed an upgrade. Something, anything, and considering:
A.) How big it is,
B.) What extra amenities are being added along with the Bay,
I'd say this is a good improvement. Plus this isn't the only thing they're doing to the waterpark in the next couple of years. . .

Lets not forget about the added revenue that this will bring in as well. I think this is a wise investment for the park considering that there isn't already just a basic pool for people to swim in.

Also, this whole flume demolition creates more space for slides & other attractions the waterpark is in desperate need of. I personally think it would be cool if they put some slides (whether they're tube, body, bowls, kiddie, etc.) that started from the Dining Patio. That's a fairly large drop off from the top to where ground level of the waterpark will be. Here's a reference picture of what I'm talking about.

I would love to see a whole brand new tower at VF. A huge multicomplex tower like at GL's WildWater Kingdom.

Except we don't really have the room for that, but I do agree, that looks like a lot of fun.

Well what I think they should do is use the hill to their advantage. They have the height already with the hill, so here's what they could do. All the red is new walkways. You'd basically go up the hill until you hit the Hurricane Falls path. And then you'd go up stairs there instead of winding around and then going up the stairs. You would then start on a very high platform, there would be multiple slides, and the tube slides would empty out into a pool that would connect to a path, and the current lazy river. Here's the plan:

Hmm, that's probably a good idea but then they'd probably need to add something else towards the other side(closer to the wave pool) because it would be packed.

Well yeah but I was just saying, if they're gonna get rid of the current ones, they should use that space to their advantage. Also, I'm sort of getting the feeling we won't be getting anything (coaster wise) until 2011. With the price of steel rising, and the economy how it is, I doubt Cedar Fair will put that kind of money into Valleyfair until a later year. In my opinion, the park should focus more on the waterpark than the park for the next two years (2009-2010). Despite the addition, the waterpark is still in desperate need of change. Let's face it, the kiddie area is pathetic, and the slides that we have, although fun, are getting old and are most likely going to be removed sooner than later. I think it would be a wise decision to go out with the old and in with the new.

You don't think that they'll put in a new water fortress before adding more slides?
I would say that that would be more likely than anything to be the next addition to the park.

That was sorta the last part of my post (out with old/in with new). They should just start over on that side of the waterpark.

This would be my future water park.
I did not spend too much time on the layout of the waterslides because it would never be like this anyway.

There is the rumor of the road being moved, it would help a lot to fit a tornado.

This kinda goes off of woodie's post only the whole water park. (I like your bodie slides better.) =)

I wonder what's going on over there. We haven't seen an single update on the Breaker's gallery since mid-November (Not complaining, just saying). Also for everyone who was wondering, the park has announced their hours for the 2009 season. The park opens on a Tuesday (I know . . . odd), while Soak City opens that Saturday, which is if I'm not mistaken the earliest opening for the waterpark in a while.

Other than that, there's not much happening. I know they already have the framework done for the wavepool, and a giant cement pouring machine is on site, but no pics, and I'm not in the mood to get arrested so yeah I guess we'll have to wait until the park decides to haul a camera out there. Time will tell.

they should have a webcam that gets updated every hour or so. That would be nice.

Well it's half a joke, they have one for Carolina Cobra, Diamondback, and they always have one over at Cedar Point. It'd be a good investment to make especially since well . . . in a couple years . . . yeah.

I hate to say it, but VF is one of the worst CF parks when it comes to keeping the enthusiasts and general public interested during the offseason. I really would like to know why they don't setup a webcam or just do more like the other CF parks do. I've got to hand it to WOF for the way they keep people in the loop during the winter...they do it all!

Agreed. I love the marketing at Worlds of Fun. Brandon's really into his job, is constantly updating the website & photos (like Looty said), and is overall really great at catering to all of the enthusiasts & people who love coasters in general. I was overall really disappointed when I saw the Coaster Craze schedule, because compared to Coaster Mayhem at Worlds of Fun, it's practically nothing. I have a feeling that will all change soon, I heard there was some shuffling around with jobs at the park. Dunno if it'll be for the good or bad though.

On a side note (although it's not really a side note considering it's more on topic than the above part of this post), one of the members from our website drove by the park today, and it looks like most, if not all of the concrete has been poured for the wavepool.

2010

****BIG BUMP****

Since this thread is labeled "Valleyfair 09-10" I guess we should keep it til 2010.

From what I've seen, there has been no indication of anything new yet. However if its just a flat, it could start construction in October.

Does anyone know more

The park is currently for sale. They aren't spending a nickle more than they have to for maintenance.

I'm nearly certain we aren't getting any new rides, but in my opinion a new restaurant would be really nice

I don't think we have too much to worry about anymore.
...and TECHNICALLY any park in the chain is for sale if the price is right.
