Valleyfair 2009/10

The rumors have been flying in the past two weeks about Valleyfair's new attraction/ride for the next two years.
Here's one report from Screamscape:

Quote:
Its been a great week for rumors so far and this next one is sure to please the Valleyfair crowd if it comes true. Look for a new steel B&M creation to make a hard landing near the front of the park in 2009 or 2010. We don’t know the exact design, but it seems likely that your feet will hang, so either a Floorless or Inverted are most likely, but don’t expect to see a Dive Machine.
Now one rumor has it that we are indeed getting an invert for 2009 which would be odd considering that'd be a two year gap regarding expansions including coasters.

Another brand new rumor is that the Flume will be removed in order to open a new wavepool for White Water Country Waterpark.

I can only hope for the best, but right now, I don't see us getting both of those expansions in 1 season. I would love seeing that wavepool, but I'd rather have the Flume stay. That's my favorite water ride.

If there hasn't already been some type of land clearing/construction, then I wouldn't count on anything big personally.

I'm not quite sure a B&M would make profit with Valleyfair getting less than a Million Guests.

A Steel Hawg Like ride or Flying Super Saturator from Carowind's are probably more of Valleyfair's budget.

Maybe they could do kinda of a Boardwalk thing at Valleyfair and Incorporate some of the water rides into the Waterpark.

- Like a Proslide Tornado/ Behemoth Bowl around Thunder Canyon/ Excalibur
- Relocate Looping Starship for a Raft Ride
- More Waterpark Attractions around the Flume (Tube Slides, Body Slides, Mat Slides, Family Play Area, Wave Pool etc.)
- Some cool waterpark attraction where HydroBlaster is

OR put it in the Unused Wooded area in the Back of the Park if they own the land and use the 3.5 acres of the Waterpark for New Rides.

They own the wooded land in the back, but I beleive that it is wetland, so it would make it tougher for them to expand back there, not to mention that most people wouldn't want to walk that far.

Okay first, they wouldn't need to re-locate looping starship cuz we already have a raft ride (That would be Thunder Canyon), and second, the only way they'll expand towards the back of the park is if they take out the current waterpark, and either re-locate or start over. The Flume would be the most wise decision considering it takes up a TON of land that could house a wavepool and more.

I say take out the car ride, shrink the parking lot, and put it there.

Why not just take out the car ride and then extend it into Picnic Cove?

Renegade is still a ways away from where Excalibur is, plus they would have to do some work to put in a walkway to get behind excalibur and thunder canyon. Quite a few people would probably complain about walking that far. What you want is a coaster in a fairly accessible area of the peark that people will want to get on. If VF wants to expand out there, they will.

Plus they'd have to open that part of the park up a LOT more to make it seem like something is actually back there. It'd be very difficult to do.

Because the parking lot is freaking huge already.

It was full and they didn't have enough room to hold all the cars on the 4th, and plus if VF keeps getting higher in attendance, that's not gonna help. If anything, make more parking in between the current lot and employee housing.

I didn't think VF's attendance was rising though... it has been relatively flat for awhile now.

I'm still not convinced on this B&M for VF. The park needs to build up their infrastructure a lot more before adding a B&M.

How so? I think everything right now is fine, I just think they need to expand and get a little bit more attention brought to the back side of the park (no, not Renegade's area, more around Excalibur/Thunder Canyon). Also, I'm not saying we need a huge B&M that sprawls all over the park, I'm just guessing we'll get a fair sized one that isn't anything special. Sorta like Patriot (No offense to any WOF fans, I actually think that it looks like a great ride, it's just not "Awesome" or "Amazing" by today's standards)

Since you said "looks like," I'm going to assume that you haven't ridden it. The zero-g far surpasses any other I have ever experienced on anything anywhere and the first drop is my favorite among inverted coasters (and actually is only surpassed by the first drops of MF and Maverick). Many, many, many people ride it expecting it to be a mediocre ride and not letting themselves enjoy it, but it is a ton more intense and exciting than it looks, take it from me.
But I digress.

At any rate, I think you're on the right track. VF! should get a Patriot-sized (or smaller) invert or a Hydra-sized floorless. I would lean toward the floorless since you already have Steel Venom. But Dorney just got VooDoo, so you never know.
Let's just say it now. Aquatrax. Called it.

I'm still betting on the Flying Super Saturator from Carowind's.

IF you do get an inverted, I wouldn't be surprised if the removed Corkscrew to put it in, as that is prime real estate for a more "marquee" attraction

i dont think the corkscrew location is big enough to house a B&M. After building a coaster last year, I dont hink VF is in for another coaster guys, sorry. i wouldnt be suprised to see a flat go in where the amplitheater is right now. They arent even using it this year, i wouldnt doubt they demolish it. plus, they could move chaos or enterprise across the midway to the former skyscraper site to make more room for a giant frisbee or something of the like.

There is no way that they would remove corkscrew. It is too classic.

My take on the Patriot: After riding it about 20-25 times, It seems like a fun ride that would be okay for VF. Talon, on the other hand, is almost the same layout and is more intense than Patriot. I really liked Hydra too. It is probably now my favorite floorless after SM:KK

As cool as it would be to see B&M cram an invert in that space, I REALLY doubt that they would take out Corkscrew.

(Quick: I can't say anything about Talon, since I am 99.99% sure I got in on a bad day, but I can say that even after 67 rides, - which is way lower than it should be - Patriot still hasn't gotten old, and I consider that a remarkable trait that is well worth investing in.)

Removing Corkscrew wouldn't be any different that Worlds of Fun removing Orient Express or countless other older Arrows that have been removed. The area could house a B&M very easily - even if it has to be more compact (i.e. Batman style) - see the attached photo to see just how much space Corkscrew takes up -- it's more than you think

Regarding Talon vs. Patriot, the layouts are only similar that the elements are about in the same order. Whereas Talon is extremely fast paced and *bang bang bang* with its elements, Patriot is extremely graceful and uses a lot more space to go through its elements. You get to really appreciate the gracefulness of the inverted coaster with Patriot whereas with Talon it goes so fast that you are in the brakes before you even have a chance to compute what just happened.

Also you just cannot beat the zero G roll on Patriot, especially in the "heartline seat" there is nothing else out there that can even compare.

If they were to remove corkscrew, matinence would actually probably need to clean up emerald pond. Plus, if corkscrew was to be removed, it would probably mean that we wouldn't get the invert until 2010 because of winter. (Which is still fine with me, any invert at VF is cool with me)

That's quite a bit of pond the freefall tower ate up. Removing the corkscrew I think would be only good to allow a diving helix for an invert. I don't think it should go.

Why would they remove corkscrew? The ride has little downtime and its attendance meets its maint costs with ease. They really have no reason to remove it.

That's not really a "reason" in my eyes...

It is a "reason," technically speaking. I'm not sure I think it's a great reason, but, you know...
It would be cool. It's not going to happen any time soon.

It would be cool to have a B&M at the park too.... but I'm not sure that is a good enough "reason" to add one to Valleyfair though.

The park is that squeezed that it needs a Knott's like approach to putting a ride in? It can be extended out like a Six Flags job?
