Great Escape New Ride in 2009

Great Escape to add new ride :: PostStar.com

Mark Shapiro confirmed that the Great Escape will be getting a new ride next year. He said, "We're going to put a major, what I would an iconic ride into this park -- one that's stunning from a thrill standpoint, one that's stunning visually."

This is great for the park. For some reason I have a feeling it's going to be either Serial Thriller or the shoot the chute ride from Astroland. Most likely it's the Serial Thriller since when asked about if it would be the Serial Thriller, Shapiro said no comment. The SLC would be good for that crowd, but it really would be another lackluster steel for the park.

It's just sitting there. You could see it from the "Thruway", really it's 87, during the winter. You meant the chutes ride from Astroworld. I wouldn't have mind if they put the extra Dark Knight wild mouse in Nightmare's building.

That Dark Knight coaster will likely be going to Mexico.

An SLC, while not appealing to the 0.1% of the crowd that are enthusiasts, will still be a hit with everyone else.

I don't get how either of those rides are iconic, and Shapiro also knows they aren't. Iconic SHOULD indicate something bigger. It sounds like he described a Dive Machine, because I can have fun just watching those, but it won't be because of Busch's contract. Then again, if Serial Thriller is indeed in pieces already there, I'd put my money on it.

It could be a really neat flat. There's that swing tower that looks pretty nifty that's in Orlando, I've been on at Martin's Fantasy Island.

Anyone know how busy Michigan's Adventure has been since they added their new SLC?

Probably not much busier than it has been in the past few years.

According to whentoride.com, Thunderhawk has been walk ons during others' visits.

So if the ride will be epic maybe the ride will be the first SLC Goliath coaster. I think it should be painted SFGAM Shockwave blue.

The other epic ride could be a relocated Mack wild mouse housed in the Nightmare at Crackaxle Canyon building called "The Emperor's Club." They don't have to use the Dark Knight theme in 2009 then.

Having recently visited Great Escape for the first time, an SLC would be a great fit for the park. You have to remember that this park, almost more than any other SF park, caters specifically to families and kids. The closest compariable park I can think of would be somewhere between a Dutch Wonderland and a Michigan's Adventure. You're not going to see a big dive machine or a flying coaster here. While at the park, I saw some preliminary work and some large construction equipment around the Nightmare at Crackaxal Canyon building. Not to mention, all of the ride pieces are stored essentially in this same area. While it would be cool to have them build the entire ride inside this building, I don't think that's going to happen. However, They could easily remove this building, but keep most of the surrounding themeing to make a perfect spot for a new ride. Not to mention, that area of the park seems to have the least amount of draw as most people head to the other end of the park for Comet and the waterpark. If I was a betting man, my GUESS would be that in '09 you'll see an SLC on Nightmare's old spot...
