Food Price Comparisons

Actually, having just made a trip to Disney...Dollywood's food prices are Much more expensive. For example: Double cheese burger, fries and the largest soda they have, $10.75. Last time I ordered this at Reds, My total was around $14-15. Bottled drinks at Disney are $2.00. Maybe someone at DW could help me with the comparison on that one. I'm thinking at least $3.00. I know times are tough, but increasing prices for things like food is not a good decision in the long run

^ That may be true, but historically speaking, Disney has always been higher...

They have had to slash prices to keep people coming from all over to visit, whereas Dollywood is in the middle of a tourist trap (not to mention is the only relevant park in the entire state) and doesn't have to cut pricing to keep guests coming.

Absolutely, but Pigeon Forge is right next to the most visited National Park in the United States- the tourists are going to be there regardless... Disney has so many hotel rooms to fill, they have to work alot harder.

^ True, but it still doesn't excuse DW's high food prices. As a matter of fact, as much as I love DW, I find myself going to Holiday World way more than DW now. Food and souveniers are way cheaper and you get more for what you pay.... and lines aren't as bad. Overall, I do feel there needs to be an adjestment to the prices at DW.

I have not really noticed DW's prices going up in the past several years?

Six Flags charges more for worse food? In the end, they are there to make money and since they are, they don't see the need to change? And longer lines means they are doing something right, doesn't it?

I love Dollywood and Holiday World. You just can't beat the value at Holiday World but Dollywood is fancier I would say with so much more to do in the area. It's also in the mountains! That being said Holiday World is just a day trip whereas Dollywood is a trip requiring me to stay in a hotel so I end up at Holiday World more. This year I got a Six Flags season pass and have been to SFSL several times. I am trying out Kentucky Kingdom tomorrow. I plan on staying a few hours to ride the roller coasters then head to Holiday World for the rest of the day since its only an hour and a half away. Hopefully I will do Six Flags over Ga soon too. After this year I doubt I get the Six Flags Season Pass again. I probably will do the Big Six Pass or something for St Louis. Six Flags' tickets are cheaper but parking, food, lockers, and merchandise is ridiculous. I would say Dollywood is higher than Holiday World but it isn't as bad as Six Flags. I would also say Dollywood's food is more extravagant than Holiday World or Six Flags so the prices don't seem to bother me, especially with the 20% discount. For me, I go for frequent Holiday World daily getaways at the best bang for the buck and great quality and cleanliness and friendliness; however, when I want to stay somewhere for awhile I head to Dollywood and Splash Country. I consider them both such great blessings! I am just getting the awfulest urge to get to Busch Gardens VA, it looks so good! That will have to wait till next year though or later.

lol yea all the SF parks are expensive and the food is definitely not worth it and I understand all your saying. I was just making a comparison to Holiday World. Also as a side note, I think DW's and HW's food are both equally good.

^ Oh gosh I know, I would love to go to Dollywood with a group of us and just go through the park and speculate, haha. My friends aren't interested in coasters unfortunately so your the only people I can talk amusement park stuff to. I probably won't get to go this year. I live in Southern West Virginia so It's not often that I get to come to Dollywood. It's a 3 and a half hour drive .

It really would be awesome if all of us could decide on a day to meet up over there. We should plan that.

Anyway, I'll post any updates or construction news I find when I get back tomorrow! I might even take a pic or two lol.

Well, I kinda like the loud music. Crowds, not so much. However, it's even worse at Christmas.

Back on topic: I'm a bit concerned. No activity is going on at all. I know it's a bit early. I guess I'm just anxious to see something being done at dollywood for once!

^Seriously, no activity today around the construction site at all. The fence is back up but thats about it. I'm beginning to wonder if they are just gonna play us like they did last year.

Mystery was open off and on today. Don't know what was wrong, but I got to ride it once. Pretty big crowd today. Tornado had the longest line I had seen for it in probably 2 years. Like I said, though, no construction work....at all.

Hmmm...No construction??? Wow I thought we would at least see some materials on the site,.....But just the fence??? Yea that's what it was doing when I went. I went in May btw. lol. Yea but TT's line moves pretty fast. I like to guess how many times the train will go through until I get on. Well if they are, I just hope they don't say "No attraction this year, we're gonna focus on the shows and festivals".....I mean I love the shows, but it seems like its been so long since I've looked and some DW construction.....lol...

Geez dude, it's JULY. This thing doesn't open for another 8 months, there's no rush.

Some of the speculation that has gone on here is too much. Some of you guys need to get your feet grounded in reality or you're just going to keep getting disappointed year after year. Stop judging AM so harshly until you've tried it out. I guarantee that if you actually try it and want to have fun then you will. DW obviously studied their options and have come to the conclusion that this attraction will be a great experience for a large portion of their guests, so you know it's going to be good.

And who's to say 2010 was supposed to be a 'big' year? Some of you are just repeating your own rumors until you actually believe them to be true. Maybe they'll invest in something thrill oriented, maybe not, but you know that the park is a special place because they do things differently than everyone else, so support them and don't bash everything that isn't a huge new coaster.

Lol, not to be overly critical or anything, but I hate to see this cycle of rumor build up and disappointment continue year after year. I've been waiting 2 years now for SDC to finally build a Splash Battle that I don't even intend to ride more than once, but I'm very glad to see the park pursue a path that will enable them to survive. Some times you just have to be patient and support the parks.

Yeah I know its JULY but have you seen how big this thing is supposed to be? I know it doesnt open for another 8 months but those 8 months will slowly slip away. And if you wanna talk about time, then look at Skyzip. It took them 2 months to put up 5 ziplines...wow quick work I tell ya. And by this time last year there was at least a construction vehicle or two on site. I mean you could actually tell something was going on.

Where did you come from? Seriously, you just come in and think you can crash this party? Well, hate to dissapoint, but, we're still going to dream about the park. You can not tell me that you don't do the same about SDC. Then again, you already have a B&M...

Sorry to sound like a jerk, but, honestly, we were doing just fine before you came and felt the desire to add your two cents in.

And we're not saying that AM's not going to be a great addition, I for one, think it's beautiful and willl be an amazing addition to the area, but I don't have any desire to take part. Call it getting old or whatever, but I just don't think I'll take part in the adventure...

I agree with Philip. I mean Pete said he liked our ideas, heck he might even use them for DW one day. So just let us dream and come up with some ideas...because they could lead to a great attraction at either park!.
Same here, I mean I really want to see what this thing will look like up there. If its really gonna be a 2 acre thing, its gonna be pretty dang big for something like that. I mean, I might do some of the things on it to try it out and see if its worth the money( which I'm sure it is lol) and see if I like it, but I mean I'm not gonna get extremely excited over this like I did MM.....And trust me, I was pretty dang excited. I had people in the family to keep telling me to shut up about it lol. So don't say that we are putting it down and saying that we hate it, because we don't. Its just some of us are not into the whole "adventurey" climbing and learning thing. I think I said that in the right way lol.

I've been on this site for several years and have always chimed in from time to time on the DW discussion, since I'm a huge fan despite hardly ever getting to make it there. I didn't realize this thread was a closed party now. Seriously, I don't mean to be too judgemental, I just happen to have learned that you will get a lot more enjoyment as a fan if you sit back and be more patient and supportive.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with speculating and dreaming up ideas - I know the guys at DW seem to enjoy it when you do. It's the bitter disappointment every time these elaborate dreams aren't carried out exactly the way you (not you specifically) see them that bugs me. Just saying. A lot of parks don't see this much growth so quickly, so you shouldn't feel too let down when they take a year for a financial breather or a "filler" ride.

This coming from a guy that used to do exactly this.

Getting back on subject though, I think it will be some time before there's much to be seen on site. The earth work alone takes forever, and from the outside it seems like little is being done. Probably won't see much excitement until much later in the season.

I agree here, I love Dollywood as much as the next guy, but it won't ruin my life if they don't build something huge in the next few years, I will still go as will all of you... that is his point here.

Some of us just choose not to speculate non-stop

What will AM feature for a couple of adults who have no children? We are a married couple that goes to Dollywood about once a week or once every other week. Back during Christmas we sometimes went twice a week. Neither of us want to do the ziplines, although it is interesting to watch other people zipping along...

As for the food, we often go to Aunt Grannys and find the price (with our Gold pass discount) comparable to all the other restaurants in the Pigeon Forge area. I usually do not like buffets but I do like the food at Aunt Grannys. Sometimes we go to Reds (which is about the same price as places like Mels Diner, and The Diner). Other times we have gone to The Backstage Restaurant, which is again comparable in price to all the other restaurants in the Pigeon Forge area. We've had some of the BBQ and also went to the LumberCamp restaurant once. While we liked that food, this time of year is just too hot to be eating outside. That is why we wish that AM will add a nice sit down restaurant. There needs to be something in that area other than outdoor dining. But where it can, and does get pricey for us, is when we buy the snacks. Like a $6 icecream each...that is too much. The drinks are expensive, too. And it is just the two of us! But my worst food experience at Dollywood occured the first time we saw Sha-Kon-O-Hey! We had bought the kettle corn and was munching on it in the dark theater...I bit down on a hard kernal and chipped my tooth. We then realized that half of the bag of our popcorn was the same, hard kernal stuff. I had to get a crown. We will never have the kettle corn again now.

Anyway, we ended up going to Splash Country over the holiday. We did the after 3PM special and all we had time for was the lazy river, Raging River Rapids, and the mountain waves. But we enjoyed our time so much that we upgraded our passes and then went back the next day. We intend on going back a few times. But does anyone know why the restaurants close so early in the parks? It was about 5PM when the place that has the pizza in Splash Country was closed. And the next day we went to Dollywood around 6PM and it seemed that everything was closed except for Aunt Grannys. That is the time most people eat dinner, so it doesn't make sense for them to close that early.

I used to work there, they tend to close the upper part of the park first, then the country fair area, then they work their way to the exit of the park. So that s all i can think of, did this help?
