I went to the park today. For a Tuesday, that place was PACKED! It was insane. Probably the most people I've seen there this season.

As for AM, they were actually working, and by that I mean actually moving. It does look like some progress is being made.

Forgive me for saying this, but Dare Devil Falls just looks dumb without the actually falls. I was just watching it today and its just dull looking. I really hope they get this fixed soon, but I doubt they will considering how late in the season it already is. By the time they get the part in, it will probably be Christmas season so the ride will be closed anyways.

Wow that's great. I may be going next weekend WOOOOO! lol
Yea I know, it especially harms the experience of people who have never been to dollywood. They are like "Its called Dare Devil Falls...but where is the falls?"..So I really hope they fix it soon

It would be great to hear a detailed trip report in the Trip Reports Forum! I would love to go sometime. I don't like their website, it takes too long for everything to load.

ok so i read this today on dollys website. It's completely relevant to Dollywood 2010 and i hope it doesnt cause any problems with AM's progress...

Dolly always avoids any political activity, but she has been drawn into a political fight over mining. Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) co-sponsored the Appalachia Restoration Act in Congress, a bi-partisan piece of legislation which would ban mountaintop removal strip mining. In retaliation, a group of West Virginia coal miners called for a boycott of Tennessee, specifically mentioning Dollywood, and one company cited recent cancellation of its company picnics to Dolly's theme park as part of the boycott (although, a park spokesman told The Knoxville News Sentinel here that the picnics were cancelled for economic reasons prior to the boycott). Now environmental group Natural Resources Defense Council has entered the debate, with its Center for Advocacy Campaigns Director opining in a column here: “To attack Dolly Parton, and all she means to her millions of fans and the hard-working, patriotic values she embodies, is not just rude and selfish -- it's frankly unAmerican.” He encourages tourists to not only visit Tennessee and Dollywood but to send their receipts to Sen. Alexander as a show of support.

The miner question is a difficult one. Certainly there are two sides to the argument. We want to protect the views and the beauty of the Smokies because that is why many come to the area (there is no strip mining in the Smokies around the National Park) but we understand the econmic issues with the miners. I certainly hope they understand that rhetoric like this simply hurts people just like themselves who depend on tourism for their livelyhood.

Well I have family in KY that are afraid to come here because of the cars that were keyed in Pigeonforge...but I told them it was just three cars...and thats it. I personally think that strip mining should be banned...but deep mining is fine.....

We went to Dollywood this past Friday and the lady at parking asked if we were going to Dollywood before we got our little ticket...we had never been asked that before and saw that the entrance to Splash Country was blocked off. I just looked at the SC Calendar and saw it didn't look like a closed day. That day, it had been raining earlier, but I didn't see any storms (all of the rides at DW were operating). We were just wondering why Splash Country was closed? What is the weather policy there? We ask because we want to go back to SC very soon. Should we call before we go? I didn't see any of this info on the site.

Both parks now route through the same toll booths- you follow the road into DW's lot as normal or take the underpass to Splash Country's lot, thus why they ask which park you are going to.

Yes. Splash Country was closed the other day when that storm came though and for the rest of the day. I was told that they couldn't do inspections because of lightning so they decided that it would be best not to even open it. Just to open Dollywood.

Must have been a bad storm cell to not even try to open- that's alot of missed revenues if it clears up.

Thanks for the explanation. It was just confusing to us because we had never been asked which park we were going to and then saw it was closed. We had been in the area for a few hours beforehand (we are actually looking into getting a house in Sevierville) and decided to go to Dollywood while we were in the area...and we didn't see any storms. In fact, it wasn't even raining. We didn't even bring our ponchos into the park. But we did see other people at the park with ponchos. So the storm must have been very early!

The thing is- lightning has to have been detected within 10 miles of the complex to shut down rides and Splash Country... so you may never see it.

That used to drive the guests crazy when I worked at DW... 'but I can't see it'... 'it's sunny out'... yeah, but it's lightning in the Smokies!

We had been in Knoxville til around noon and then headed towards Sevierville to look at a house. By the time we got to DW it was about 2PM. I guess we missed all the storms and rain! But people in the park were walking around wearing ponchos so I certainly don't doubt there was rain and storms. We thought the closing of SC may have to do with the weather. I had wondered what they did when there was storms. I didn't know if they closed the park, or just called everyone out of the water, or what.

We were at DW once and just as we had reached the front of the line for Mystery Mine they had to close down the ride due to storms. It had began pouring rain so we decided to stay inside the MM building. We got a kick out of that funny voice saying "Attention all miners! Lightning has been spotted in the area..." or something like that over and over again. The voice sounded like Buzz the Vulture.

^Yes on Friday there was storms earlier that morning. My family and I arrived at Dollywood at 11 a.m. and it was pouring down rain and had been for the entire hour and a half drive to the park. It rained until around noon. As you may have noticed the park still did not get very busy and I highly doubt Splash Country lost much of any business due to the fact that they would probably have no one there (to speak of).

I may be selling my house in sevierville soon. About 15 miles from dollywood. Just off Boyds Creek. It's 3 bedroom 2 bath in a wonderful subdivision. If you are looking and want information let me know.

Haha, yeah... nothing like hitting the RED button on the voice box at TT over and over again until the queue house emptied.

VAN wagon? I'm not sure if you meant band wagon or if you were actually making a point with that. Your post is confusing. How does that make you wonder? And what does it make you wonder about?

Sorry if I sound dumb, but your post just caught me off guard and I do not understand it.

Yeah, maybe a launched wooden from gravity group like I had said before =D. If we get a launched woodie ,I will be so proud of myself for guessing that, haha. I couldn't care less what kind of coaster Dollywood is getting or when. Any new attraction at Dollywood is great to me. I know some people here believe a coaster is coming this year but I don't know why we debate whether they are or not. We should wait until an official announcement is made or we see footer work going on before we strongly Believe a coaster is coming. Know what I mean? =D We need to focus on what's already been announced and make conversation with that. I'm sure we would've seen work going on already if a coaster was coming =P.

Sorry, I got carried away with my rant, haha.

Or it could be to promote the 4-d ride they already have.... And somehow I think that Adventure mountain ride is whats new for next yr and nothing else. Wow this thread is ridiculous with Dollywood fanboys.

^Agreed.

That is why I asked how those pics are supposed to make someone wonder. I mean he even got the pic of where it plainly says "Journey to The Center of The Earth."

And in this movie, there is a mine scene... Nothing hinted there. Sorry. Plus, don't you all think it's time to about give up on anything more than AM coming? I mean, this is August now... They would have started work back in the summer, not now... Sorry for crushing your dreams but it just doesn't seem likely anymore.

^Exactly, that's what I was saying. I mean...It's good to dream about things but why keep pushing it more and more when we know nothing is coming besides adventure mountain. The only other thing I could actually see coming to Dollywood besides AM would probably be some little flat rides left over from Celebration City. I don't even know where they would put them.

Something showing up from CC isn't a bad speculation. If they are indeed scrapping the park, I would expect to see the rides start to come down any time now. They said before that nothing would happen until 2010 at least, but that's right around the corner. Wouldn't be hard to ship a kid's ride or two over to DW in the spring.

I dunno, it being Tax-Free shopping weekend here in Tennessee... traffic may be bad, but Dollywood may not be as crowded as normal for a Saturday- it wasn't last year for that very reason.
