In The News

Regis Philbin was in Pigeon Forge for the opening of the Titanic attraction today, and apparently visited Dollywood yesterday.

News Plus Notes profiled Adventure Mountain.

A forum member posted pictures of Adventure Mountain on Theme Park Insider

Dolly's website said that her and Regis both want to film Live with Regis and Kelly "sometime soon" at Dollywood. =] That would be awesome!

I went to the park yesterday (4/10) to see some shows before the Festival of Nations is over, and it was packed. The shows were all full (nothing new there), but all of the major rides had at least a 30 minute wait. Smokey Mountain Wilderness Adventure was pretty much a walk on, like normal. Walking through Show Street reminded me a lot of Disney World, to be honest. People everywhere! And Imagine was stellar, just like last year. I hope to see it back in 2011! I wasn't overly impressed with Drum, unfortunately. I got my first go on Adventure Mountain too. Loved it! I'm into rock climbing right now, so this was right up my alley. Made it to the top without much trouble, but I still had a lot of fun.

But I'm beginning to wonder if we might be seeing some major changes to the Imagination Cinema in the next few years. It's moderately busy during Kidsfest/Christmas, but I rarely see a wait for it during the normal season. I remember back when Thunder Road was new, it was one of the busiest rides in the park every day. I guess the new coasters really took the audience away, but I wonder if we'll see some changes... I'd love them to push the envelope again. Thoughts?

Just got home from my first Dollywood trip for the 25th anniversary! I'm not sure why, but it seemed like there was no one there!

Everything was great to say the least! Lots of needed changes! Widening showstreet was a plus! Now we could actually get through! We usually detoured through adventures in imagination. Speaking of that area, Dolly's Closet looks SOOOO Out of place now! I love it, I think it looks great, but it is so out of place sitting there with all those other beige buildings.

Surprisingly, I loved the Silvertones! Although at times they were cheesy, I just thought they set the tone for the season as a celebration! I can't wait for those busy days when they can really get a party going! I even got to dance with the blond for a while! HAHA!

Adventure Mountain is BEAUtiful! (Jim Carrey). I absolutely loved it! However, being the idiot I am, I forgot to wear closed toe shoes, so I couldn't do it. But it looks like loads of fun. But i did see some guy get pissed off as geysers kept hitting him!

Overall, I think that this season of Dollywood will be like none before! It's like one big party! Everything that was lacking last season is certainly made up for this season!!!

Am I reading all the reports in the last few pages correctly?!?! Not a single person (that I have read) has mentioned what a TON of people wanted done in the off season! Daredevil Falls now has water coming down the falls once again! haha

In response to the question about Imagination Cinema, I'd like them to make a show that's unique only to Dollywood. Almost like Wilderness Adventure Tours except a new concept. I don't have any suggestions though... I really like Wilderness Adventure Tours though. It felt a little different then it used to though. I think they may have not added the music in the background to certain parts because they felt really bare. Or maybe that was just my imagination wanting more. Regardless, it was fun. I feel like next year they might change it to something new.

I didn't fail. Check post 1652. It was actually one of the first things I checked on! It seemed there was more water on the ride. It was much higher.

We finally got our lanyards, but they weren't free. And we got a souvenir cup. We plan on going every 25th of the month to justify buying it, haha. Did anyone else buy a cup?

^That's why I put "(That I have read)" cause I was sure I had to have missed it, as big as it was last year.

I bought both of the mugs for the refills! It think it's a good deal as much as my family goes.

The 99 cent anniversery mug helps a ton! starting next year, all the mugs should be like that though...
Interesting piece of news today. Dollywood's facebook page posted a link to an ABC article about Dollywood's 25th anniversary and in it dolly said that they might eventually have Dollywood's all over the world focusing on whats going on in that area. I think she may have just been talking of what she would like to see one day though.
So I got to go to Dollywood today. Adventure Mountain was awesome. On the bright side, its one of those things that you don't neccessarily have to do every trip so you don't have to wear tennis shoes every time. But it was a lot of fun. Also, nobody has mentioned this yet: new bumpercars!!!!! haha i was so suprised when i saw them since i hadn't read about them on here. They are totally new; they don't connect to the ceiling anymore and they look like old timey cars kind of. The arena seems a bit bigger and looks a little nicer. I liked it.

There are alot of new or added things this year. The Bumpercars are certainly one of them. The redo on the outside of the Lumberjack Lifts are another. The biggest is probably that we did not increase food prices this season.

Pete, where exactly was the Slick Rock Racer constructed in Splash Country? I know it was mentioned sometime on here before, but I haven't seen it added to Splash Country's on-line map yet.

That commercial for Adventure Mountain is great! I think Dollywood does a great job on tv and radio commercials in general.

Thumbs up Dolly Parton Gives Tours of Dollywood...virtually!

Sorry to double post but I must for this!

Remember the interview Pete had with Coaster 101 a few weeks ago? Remember him mentioning a new item/experience coming to the "Amazing Adventures" brand? IT IS HERE! They are now offering tours of the park that are guided by Dolly via a GPS device to approximately 20 locations on park.

Here is the information

Tickets for the "DollyGuide"
are $15.99+ tax for regular and $12.80 + tax for Gold Passholders. My guess is you get one system per group, but I'm not sure.

I'm excited about trying this!

TEA has released their 2009 report on theme park attendance. Globally attendance fell by 1 million guest. Disney parks saw increased attendance at 7 of their 9 theme parks worldwide and achieved 8 of the 10 most visited parks worldwide (Disney water parks had no change).

Dollywood's Splash Country made the top 20 list for North American waterparks placing 15th with 446,000 visitors (-2%). Dollywood did not make the list of top 20 North American parks but I imagine they should be close since Six Flags Great America (number 20 of the North American list) saw a 6.3% decrease to 2.5 million visitors in 2009. Anyone know how many guest Dollywood and Herschend had in 2009? If the weather would cooperate this year with all the 25th Anniversary news buzz hopefully they will make the 2010 top 20 list.

It's funny how they get their numbers because no one called us again this year. This is why BGW and BGT always have problems with TEA's attendance numbers.

I'll be going to DW in July and I'm thinking about actually eating inside the park for once so what's a restaurant that serves good, cheap food? =) Well... all the food at Dollywood is probably amazing so which one is the cheapest? lol. I don't recall ever eating a meal inside an amusement park so I want to make dollywood my first =)

^Well if you want burgers, fries and shakes Red's Dinner is a must! However if you want A LOT of food (either for breakfast, lunch or dinner) visit Aunt Granny's all you can eat buffet. Aunt Granny's is $9.99 for breakfast or $15.99 for lunch/dinner (those are adult prices and include drink). While it's going to be $5 or so more than other places it's still a lot of good food! Then if you are a Gold Passholder you would get 20% off those prices. For a first time food place and I would choose Aunt Granny's so you get more of a sample of how much good food Dollywood offers.

There is a coupon for buy one get one free (after 3PM) at Aunt Granny's. The coupon is in one of the coupon books you can get at nearly any local business. Actually go to smokymountainnavigator dot com and click on the icon for download coupons. Then go to where it reads page two then click on the print icon and you'll see the coupon.

We usually eat at Aunt Granny's because you can get in and out quickly. It is the best value, and there is a good variety. They even have a soup there that is very much like the soup Dixie Stampede serves that everyone seems to love. Be sure to ask your server for a to go beverage (they usually will ask you if you want one, though). We always eat at the park when we go and have never had a bad experience at Aunt Granny's. I am usually not a buffet person but the staff that works there keeps it very clean and the food is always fresh. But the burgers at Reds Diner are delicious, too!

Seeing as the park is open for the season, this thread is done. Please continue the speculation for new 2011 attractions in the Dollywood 2011 thread.
