Cedar fair parks 2009-....

When the 2009 season opens. all of the parks will have received a roller coaster the last two operating seasons.

2007:

Valley fair, Renegade
Cedar Point, Maverick.
Knott's berry farm, Sierra Sidewinder
Kings Island's, Firehawk

2008:

Knott's berry farm, Pony Express
Michigan adventures, Thunderhawk
Kings Dominion, Dominator
Dorney Park, VooDoo
Canada's Wonderland, Behemoth

2009:

Worlds of fun, Prowler
Kings Island, Diamond Back
Carowinds, Carolina Cobra

Now obviously there are more the previous years. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that this is unlike any other year. (At least in the last 10 years)
What is in store for these parks now that every park has had its turn with a new/new to the park, roller coaster?

Could we start the list over? What about flat rides.

WHAT DO YOU THINK

Or is it just a Coincidence???????

Cedar Fair has a 3 year large capital investment period for its parks. (At least the legacy parks do.) So really you can count on that normally.

Sierra Sidewinder was added in 2007.

I think Waterpark Expansions and Flat Rides are in the Future. Maybe A Dark Ride here and there and Hotels With Indoor Waterparks are possible.

I think Cedar Fair should introduce dark rides. Even if they're generic ones, still Dark Rides are great fun, and are really popular! I kinda wish Valleyfair would get something along the lines of Sierra Sidewinder. It'd fit in great! I know Nick Universe has one, but still it'd be a great addition to the park. But of course I'd like it in say 2013 or 2014 after we get our B&M.

You can add Kings Island's Firehawk to the 2007 list, too. Not bad, 2 major coasters in 3 seasons.....

Well the former PP parks contain the scooby doo themed dark rides so that's a start right there for CF to work with in terms of adding these to their core parks.

As for coasters I think we'll see a few new ones popping up chainwide in the coming years but nothing along the lines of SF & their building spree that wound them up in debt & destroyed the company in the process.CF has paid careful attention to that mess I'm sure & has no intention of repeating it.

Cedar Fair definitely seems to know how to work this industry; and they know how to learn from their own/other companies' mistakes.

It would be nice to see Carowinds get some Thrilling Flat Rides such as a Top Spin or something

CF is starting to show a little love towards Carowinds but we honestly need about 2 years of flats before another coaster goes in. I would much rather get 1-2 flats a year for the next 2 years and wait for a new coaster in 2012.

I do like what CF has been doing with the former Paramount Parks but alot still need to be done before i'm 100% impressed with CF.

I am a big fan of dark rides myself. The ones i've been on so far are Mystery Mine-dollywood, Blazing fury-dollywood, Gobbler Getaway-holiday world, and Scooby Doo's Scary Swamp - six flags st louis. If I did ever make it to cedar point or another park it would be great to experience another dark ride. The dark rides are just too cool!

This is kind of related, but not really:
What happened to the Prowler (WOF) thread? I can't get it to load, it says they are preforming maintenance, but it's been that way for a few days now.

Cedar Fair is starting to come around a bit with their parks.

I was sad to see Geagua Lake go, but I honestly think it was a good business decision. Cedar Fair knows how to not make mistakes based on other companies.

Cedar Fair is starting to "spread the wealth" among their parks. Even though some of the rides may be used, they're great additions to the parks they're moved to (Ex. Dominator & Thunderhawk). I would like to see a little bit more of the wealth at several of the parks that have seemed neglected over the years.

At any rate, I think we'll see at least something necessary at every CF park this year.

I know we cannot expect much after getting Behemoth this year, but are there any rumours around as to what Canadas Wonderland might get next year?

Maybe a few Nick central rides or some water slides. Of course there is always nothing but i'm sure CW will get something geared towards the family.

Do they already have a wavepool? I know CF likes to put 2 wave pools in it's parks. The VF site says nothing about a wavepool.

I was shocked to see the waterpark was only 3.5 acres compared to Carowinds 20 acre waterpark. I guess the whole waterpark is something new for VF.

Yeah, its a pretty small waterpark. The wavepool will be a nice addition to the waterpark at Valleyfair, and it will continue to grow.

Michigan's Adventure's Waterpark (WildWater Adventure) has 3 wavepools. All 3 of those were built prior to Cedar Fair ownership though (1 when the waterpark opened in 1991 and then 2 were added during Phase II in 1997). Cedar Fair added the Cabana's & Funnel of Fear to the Waterpark though.

I think Thunderhawk & Grand Rapids were 2 nice additions to the park in recent years. I'd love to see more attractions at Michigan's Adventure, it'd be nice.

I was going through some rides and stuff, and I discovered the Launch Tower Coaster built by Zierer. I think it would do good in some of Cedar Fair's parks. (For Example-Carowinds, California's Great America, Michigan's Adventure etc....)

Just a thought.....

Also, rumors have been flying that Flying Super Saturator may be moved to another Cedar Fair park.

That however won't be announced for a while if it is.

Oh wow. I feel really out of the loop when I read threads like this. I've really only ever followed additions to KI and CP, and never really thought about the other parks. No offense lol. I should really start paying more attention around to other parks around the globe.
But, as everyone (I'm sure) knows, KI's getting Diamondback in 09. CP should probably be getting a relatively big addition next year, though I have no idea what it is, and in 010 CP will be getting something massive

Ok....Here's my latest predictions....but we of course won't know until Cedar Fair announces their "Capital Improvements & Additions for 2009" which won't come for maybe a few more weeks.

Major Additions (which have already been announced)-
-Kings Island- Diamondback (B&M Mega Coaster)
-Worlds of Fun-Prowler (GCI Wooden Terrain Twister)
-Carowinds-Carolina Cobra (Vekoma Boomerang with NEW Trains)(Relocated from Geauga Lake as "Head Spin")

Now, this is what I think is most probably happen...

-Valleyfair-The Wave Pool is practically confirmed...(That Billboard)

-Michigan's Adventure-This park has alot of room to expand. The new Duck Creek RV Resort is going in across the street, this will provide some added benefits for the park. The Resort will be owned by a Jourden and I won't be surprised if it becomes "officially" a part of the park and Cedar Fair in the coming years. I also think that this is the year that they will try to connect the Shivering Timbers (Timbertown) Midway to the Thunderhawk/Grand Rapids Midway by Wolverine Wildcat with a new midway. I think a Restaraunt, Gift Shop & New Flat would go well here...I guess we'll have to wait and see. A kiddie flat or moderately thrilling flat. Or maybe even an S&S Screamin' Swing or HUSS Top Spin. Maybe even an S&S Power Tower. I also think it would be a nice addition if Michigan's Adventure tried to add some bonus weekends for 2009, or possibly a Halloween Event. If Valleyfair can do it, then Michigan's Adventure could do it. I also see maybe a few rides from Geauga Lake making it to MiA next year.

Knotts Berry Farm-I actually believe the current rumor circulating stating that a New Attraction will go in Camp Snoopy or near that area. Rumors are that it will be a Rollercoaster. Thats alot of new coasters for the park in a short period of time. It's rumored to be a Vekoma Inverted Family Coaster. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Kings Dominion-3 New Rides next season. The pieces have already been spotted. The Americana Wheel, El Dorado & Black Squid from Geauga Lake. The pieces from the rides have been seen at the park near the old XLC pieces.

Dorney Park-Nothing known for 2009 at this time, however there may be plans for park re-development and major work sometime in the future.

Cedar Point-I think that GCI will re-track Mean Streak and that it will actually improve the ride quite well and hopefully restore interest and ridership in the ride. I think it has gotten quite rough, but with a magical GCI touch-up, I think the ride could return to its "Glory Days" and everyone will enjoy it. The Water Ride rumor is still up and floating around. Although several people who know employees could "confirm" it, we'll have to wait for official word. It'd be a welcome addition. (I think something BIG for 2010 for Cedar Point, and I have no doubt that it will be a rollercoaster). I see Demon Drop staying open for a few more years.

Canada's Wonderland-Who Knows....the news surrounding this park is quite unknown at this time. Except for the fact that Cedar Fair owns a crapload of land around the park and is considering selling it to make money.

California's Great America-Well, the Wooden Coaster idea has been pushed back to 2010 as known. This park needs some serious help, especially with this whole DUMB fiasco with Prudential about building the coaster and of course the fact that the park may be forced to close down due to the proposed new stadium. I guess we'll have to ride this one out and wait and see.

Flying Super Saturator is rumored to be going to another Cedar Fair park for 2009. The most likely candidate as pointed out so far is Michigan's Adventure where it could be built back by the waterpark although Cedar Fair may try to build it at Geauga Lake's WildWater Kingdom as a hope to try to draw in more guests.

I'll analyze the waterparks and see what I think about those a little later....

I don't think FSS will end up at GL/WWK,it may have a good shot at ending up at either MIA or KBF however.

It would be interesting to see just what happens with CGA as they've got quite a few issues to work out what with the neighbors complaining about park expansion, plus the lack of room to expand....who knows? we might be looking at more ride relocations if that park goes under & if so I'll take Flight Deck & perhaps Invertigo at KD,most of the other coasters in their collection are just average IMO but I wouldn't mind taking their delerium as well.

Yeah, Flying Super Saturator ending up at GL/WWK was just an idea I threw out there....I know its not very possible...but I think that CF might think it was a good idea. I still think MiA is the leading candidate (and a good one at that).

I've been thinking about California's Great America going under for quite sometime. Theres not much room and the park sits on prime relestate for that stadium parking lot. If it closes that'll only mean bad news, but all the rides will more than likely be spreaded to the other Cedar Fair parks.

Hopefully Cedar Fair can work out the parks problem and build that new woodie and keep the park. Just the thought that they may be building it is a good sign though for the park.

It would be nice if Valley fair could do more to the park.
It seems that its getting lower and lower to the list of amount of good rides.(compared to others, Mia, Wof, Dorney.) I would think if Mia had a RV resort, and Wof has a cabana area, I would think Valleyfair Could have a place for people to stay.

Cabana area? Are you speaking like Cabanas near wavepools? Michigan's Adventure has some Cabanas by their wavepools for rental. I think Valleyfair may be likely for something like that in the future seeing as they are getting a wavepool. (They're called Surfside Cabanas)

I can see each of the parks having a resort of their own in the near future. When Cedar Fair first bought Michigans Adventure they tried keeping the plans to build a hotel and the 210 foot coaster that everyone was craving.

Things just sort of went downhill after the Chaos accident, not to mention the plans were abandoned early in its stages. but the park is doing fine now and the RV resort will help. Not to mention they finally have city water now.
