I doubt it will be anything big if they add anything at all. They need to take a few years off.

Maybe I'm a bit off But aren't they added a new family/kiddie area to CP? using the kiddie/family rides from GL. I know it was announced. I'm pretty sure that's the 09 addition unless it was worked into the O8 additions.

Nothing's been announced. I don't really even know of any speculation beyond rumors with no base at all. So this goes to rumors until an announcement's made.

In all honesty, just because somethings not going on right now doesnt mean that something wont go in.

For example, if its a water ride or some sort, it would take a while to announce it and for work to begin. (Not saying that this will be something super major, but a flume ride would be nice for the park). All it takes is a few markers for you to know this year or next (markers back in Frontiertown and markers up by Space Spiral).

And if Mean Streak is going to get retracked, they dont need to announce that for a while.

Remember, alot of the 2008 additions werent even announced until October of last year for ALL of their parks this year.

I guess we'll have to wait and see......

I think Mean Streak's retracking, if done properly and effectively, is certainly enough to make me return next season. It's always looked like a great ride, but it's a painful experience once you're on it.

They don't need to announce that at all. Who really cares if Mean Streak is getting retracked? The GP certainly don't.

New for 2009! New wood on Mean Streak!

^lol.
I personally hope they don't retrack it, and just get rid of it and build a new GCI.
As for next year, though there has not been any kind of announcement or hinting, I hope CP gets a new water ride. With the demolition of White Water Landing, that area of the park's been pretty dry. Pun intended. Or, maybe they're going to update at least some of Soak City.

It seems that in a small way, valley fair and cedar point are connected some what on what rides they get. (At least they are similar) e.g. 2002, CP, wicked twister, 2003,VF Steel venom. 2006, CP, Sky hawk, VF, Xtream swing. (Same ride) 2007, CP, Maverick (roller coaster with western theme) VF, Renegade, western theme.
Its not much but its kind of interesting.
This year we are getting a new wave pool, so who knows there could be some sort of water ride for cp.

They just added a kiddie area in 2008. I doubt they'll add another on 2009.

You never know. I think Nickelodeon needs to be introduced into the park soon.

Thanks for the information. I remembered hearing about the kiddie land. but I couldn't remember if it was upcoming of last year.

as for Nick. I was surprised that the new kids area wasn't Nick themed. but if they didn't do it on this last kiddie land addition I don't think they will.

If they are adding a wave pool to the water park and retracking Mean streak like rummered chances are they won't do more. You might see other capital improvements to the property. A major ride is unlikely. Cedar Fair is also highly investing in other properties this year.

I could have sworn I heard that Cedar Fair was looking at getting rid of the Nick characters and converting all the kiddie lands to Peanuts.

I heard that rumor too but if it's true CF better be prepared to loose millions every year. As much debt as they have i doubt they want more so it's very smart to keep Nick.

Cedar point has been in bed with The peanuts for several years now. So is MIA but not as long.

^^But wasn't Paramount and Nickelodeon partners? CF doesn't have that luxury, hence the move to Peanuts.

Do I agree with it? I have no say. I don't have anyone that age that will be attending CP in the next few years anyhow. I plan on introducing my nephew to the joys of amusements by the time he turns 5 or 6.

The Cedar Fair parks have been doing just fine with Peanuts for all these years, I doubt getting rid of Nick or going to a generic theme will hurt them very much, if any at all.

I mean, Canada's Wonderland still has a Hannah Barberra section along with two kiddie sections with no theme at all (Zoom Zone and KidzVille) and all are popular even though they are dated (but timeles) characters or generic themes (Taxi Jam, Silver Streak, Jumpin Jet, Flavorator).
I think the kids like the fact they have something to go on rather than who it's themed after.

While Cedar Fair will always be mainly PEANUTS, I do not see them getting rid of the Nickelodeon Theming...I see them renewing the contract and possibly installing a kiddie area themed to Nickelodeon at all of their parks (like Kings Island, and Canada's Wonderland for example....actually most of the former Paramount Parks).

I could also see a joint venture for the two themes, like having Snoopy be one of mascots at all the parks and have another one like SpongeBob or something...or Scooby, or something related to that.

Who knows! I would've loved to see Cedar Fair keep the Paramount movie theming so Top Gun could still be Top Gun, and Tomb Raider could still be called that and still have the effects.

In all honesty....I hope Cedar Point doesnt get rid of a rollercoaster for along time and that they work on Disaster Transport to make it more "thrilling" again in a way.

And although Demon Drop is a maintenance nightmare, I still think it is a great ride, very thrilling, and very intense drop still...I hope they re-consider the selling of the ride...I hope they decide not to!

I wouldn't count on it as the Nick characters are more marketable, and recognizable with the kids of today...heck most of us older guests don't really remember Snoopy or Peanuts & for those of us that do they weren't very popular in their day to begin with.

Now I often wonder why CF went with Snoopy as their mascot to begin with?My guess is because the Nick characters were taken by Paramount, while all of the others were taken by SFI.

PEANUTS was pretty popular....especially "Your a Good Man Charlie Brown" & alot of families still watch the Holiday Specials that come on.

In all honesty, PEANUTS & Snoopy were a good choice for the Cedar Fair parks. PEANUTS was a part of Cedar Fair long before Nickelodeon even came into the picture for them.

In all honesty, I think I see a joint thingamabob coming out of this as I said. Each park will also have a Nickelodeon theme to it as well....Cedar Fair mindswell take advantage of having it....

I hope they actually get rid of "all" the nickelodean theming. Its tacky. Honestly, who wants to visit a park on a hott day, to see an entire area painted orange. Yeah, orange can be a cool color in monderation, but to have so much of it is an eye sore. Now, Snoopy on the other hand is different, since their areas include a wide array of colors, which I think is more visually appealing.

Again, I really don't think kids care who the ride is themed to. The front of a kiddie coaster could have Woodstock or Spongebob and a kid wont even notice.
I think going to Peanuts and a Generic theme wont hurt the parks at all.

PS- Personally I remember Snoopy, Charlie Brown, and the gang just fine and I'm younger than you. I used to watch their holiday specials all the time and read their comics in the paper each day.

i lol'd.

I think both Peanuts and Nick are great for CF. I think that the smaller parks should stay with one or the other, I dont see a reason to make a change chainwide or anything.

My question is why this discussion is so long. Does it really matter to any of us? Only a few of us use the kiddie areas, and besides, this thread is a CP 09 thread, not CF.

Anyway, I was at the park today talking to my friend about the GCI/Mean Streak affair when the ride op came by. I was arguing with my friend about MS's fate, and I had just said that I hope they get rid of mean streak and put in a real GCI. The ride op made it pretty clear that his opinion was that it was never going to happen. Actually he said, "Yeah right, like that'll ever happen. I want a 12-looper by Intamin. They were here yesterday, you know."
So my question here is: Is that true? Was Intamin really at the park? Maybe CP's shopping around for the best retrackers? Who knows, maybe GG's next?

I still say kids today have no idea who the Peanuts are and 2-3 holiday specials is honestly not enough to stick in their minds. Why not bring back the Peanuts cartoons on sat morning.

99.9% of all kids relate to Nick so i'd honestly take the Peanuts themeing away and make everything Nick but thats my personal opinion. It wont happen.

^^You should know by now that ride-ops are never to be trusted. They are as reliable as the Lemon Chill Guy or the Dippin Dots Guy. They only tell you what they know you want to hear.
