Holiday World 2010

Paula says they will make the official announcement August 13. What do you think they have in store? I am hoping for a steel coaster. That may be a bit pricey though with a recession and all.

I'm betting on something new at the water park. Voyage is still a destination coaster, and they haven't added to the water park in a couple of years.

Pilgrims Plunge doesn't count? You can enter it from the water park. And what about Kima Bay the year before?

I don't think we're in for any major attractions this year.

No, it doesn't. The walk from the waterpark to the ride doesn't warrant it as a "water park addition" -- in fact I would say that unless it is a "must ride" very few people will take them up on using the water park entrance once the newness has worn off. It's just not worth the walk over there from the waterpark (imho).

I don't know if they will ever do it but I'd like to see them get a great steel coaster. I don't see much point in getting another wooden coaster. They already have one of the top rated wood coasters with The Voyage and two others that are also rated very highly. Getting another wood coaster isn't going to bring that many more people since any big wooden coaster fan already has reason enough to go there.

A steel coaster on the other hand can bring new interest to others who aren't the biggest woodie fans around. I think it's better to have a variety of rides and coasters. With their latest woodie being such an incredible ride, you really can't look to top it and if they did, that's dumb too since it's only a few years old.

I don't ride Pilgrim's Plunge UNLESS I enter from Splashin Safari in my bathing suit. You get too wet to get saturated and wear wet clothes all day. You don't get as wet on frightfull falls or raging rapids as you do on the plunge. I am thankful they added the entryway from the water park.

Can you get a steel coaster for around 5 million? It would be so cool for them to do some steel. I really agree that three woodies is plenty.

You can get a steel coaster for $5 million, but the only thing you'd be able to get with that money would be a Wild Mouse.

Of course, they could build a custom Maurer S öhne, Gerstlauer, or maybe even an Intamin spinner for that price as well, but that's about it.

I think if anything it will be another addition to the waterpark.
We need to stop kidding ourselves about this park. People come for the waterpark, the woodies are just icing along with the rest of the ride park. This is a waterpark destination.

Neil, not sure what Pilgrims Plunge you rode, but I did not get wet at all on the ride, and I rode in the 2nd row of the boat. In fact I probably got more wet from the water dripping down on the elevator lift then from the actual splash down.

I skeptical of a large attraction but in the email newsletter I got today "Park president Will Koch will proudly unveil his latest plan for making everyone smile. He's been working on this for several years and has been talking about it even longer. In fact...it's the second largest ride project in the park's history!" Now I'm thinking steel coaster.

I am so hoping for steel. I can see him planning awhile for that. Plus it being the second biggest ride!

I don't understand about Pilgrim's Plunge, I have ridden four or so times and sat all over and get drenched each time! Go figure! That's why I always go in from SS, I was drenched the first time in my "dry" clothes.

If its the second largest project then that means it will probably cost between 4.2 and 6.5 million dollars. That's pretty cheap for a steel coaster. Proslide rocket? Hmmm.

Also, the one time I rode Pilgrims Plunge I entered from the water park side. I would never ride in anything other than a bathing suit as we got soaked, in one of the last rows.

Weren't they able to build The Voyage much cheaper than normal? I wouldn't be surprised if Will can somehow pull a steel coaster out of the bag magically somehow. I can hope anyway!

Pilgrims Plunge was an Intamin. Perhaps they will go back to them? If so it could be something like this ride. Cost of 7 million USD with a capacity of 800 pph. In comparison, the Steel Dragon spinning coaster at Waldameer is listed at 4 million dollars with a capactiy of 930 pph.

Correct. The exchange rate on the Euro is lower but not that low. S&S may be the only game in town regarding a "bargain" if there is one in steel coasters.

I did a little research to get some ideas on pricing. The Spongebob Eurofighter cost only 2.9 million at 1245 feet long. Tony Hawk Big Spin spinning coaster is 6.5 million with a length of 1351 feet, 1400 pph. Mick Doohan's Motocoaster built by Intamin cost $10 million AUD. I think there is a possibly of a more exciting steel coaster than a wild mouse if "second largest" is referring to dollar amount. It couls also have nothing to do with money and actually mean height or length.

A wild mouse type coaster is pretty fun. I rode the one at Kentucky Kingdom a few weeks ago and I think I rode one at SFGA last year. They are great for parents and their small children. However, I don't think this is what Will has been planning for several years. I would be cool with an S&S coaster if they got a great deal, I tend to love Arrow Dynamics coasters and S&S acquired Arrow if I am not mistaken. It will be interesting to see. I may take a vacation day to be there for the announcement!

If they have 80 undeveloped acres to the north I believe that would be the area on both sides of the Voyage track? That's what I get from looking at Google Earth anyway. I would think Splashin Safari could expand from Kima Bay over to the Voyage track and that the other side of the Voyage track would be more Holiday World. Who knows but it is fun guessing! I need to learn how to use my Roller Coaster Tycoon program to see if I could run a park. I know it has to be a challenge, especially if you are only open so many months of the year!
Holiday World is doing ggggrrreeaaatt! I honestly wasn't expecting anything since they did Pilgrim's Plunge this year.

Tweet from Paula "A week till our 2010 new-ride announcement. Trying to get Will to explain the technology a little more in depth than 'it's magic.'" A ProSlide HydroMagnetic Rocket anyone?

If I remember right when voyage was built there was also additions to thanksgiving, giving the whole package as the project. Voyage plus additions equals project. How much did HW spend that year?..

If you look at the latest Holiblog post you'll notice in one of the pictures you can see the Proslide logo (it's upside down) which practically confirms a rocket slide.

Ok, now they have said it will cover 2 acres and cost 5.5 million dollars. Surely it has to be a big water coaster. Anyone know how much Master Blaster cost and how much area it occupies. It has been rated number one water ride for years if I am not mistaken.

How much do Mega Lites cost anyway? I would love for an American park to get one of these and I figure a smaller park like Holiday World would be the place.

I hoping that is the case, that it is a dual "track" rocket slide from ProSlide.
That would really help with capacity

^But they are Intamins, which can be pretty expensive. Kawesemi costed about $14.6 million.

Mega-Lites can more so be related to other Hypercoasters like Magnum or coasters like that. It is not in a comparison to a Giga Coaster as those are mostly built for speed. Intamin Mega's do have a substantial amount of airtime (or at least from what I heard).

Yes they are Intamins, but the lite models shave off money and can fit into more of a space. I wish one could be built at HW (the park is great without one though as well)

However, I do believe it is a Proslide Rocket. It'd be a great addition, and it definately appears as if its powered by "magic" haha.
