Knott's to get CP's Demon Drop

This PDF seems to confirm it. They're getting rid of the upcharge Screamin' Swing for Demon Drop. So Cedar Point couldn't sell the ride. I guess something will be going in Demon Drop's place. There's plenty of room there, especially if they cut a little out of the employee area behind it.

Why is this a rumor item and not news -- considering this was published on a public newsletter?

Everytime I ride a coaster, it valleys. I've never been on a stalled coaster or had one roll back (except Wicked Twister and what was Superman: Ultimate Escape, which does that by design).

I'd consider it more of a sport to rig it with explosives and try to get it to drop right into scrap dumpsters. That's really happening to a first generation model despite what happened with another chain's models? We're for real on this?

I read the PDF. Unbelievable. Will this free up the space to put in CGA's in limbo wooden coaster design?

Well this is the worst addtion to Knotts EVER!!! imo They're giving parks Giga coasters and B&M hypers, yet Knotts their Flagship Themepark gets a 26 year old maintenance nightmare POS what is CF thinking? Regardless if it's a free ride this is the wrong park period!, send this old POS to the boneyard even MIA doesn't deserve an addition this crappy imo.

Thank you for posting Commonsense. It's needed. This is as bad as the SLC coming to La Ronde. We might need to make a poll for ranking those two scenarios.

What are all of you complaining about Demon Drop for? I love the ride; it's by far one of my favorite drop towers. I would MUCH rather see it stay at CP, given that's my home park. Believe me, if there was any way I could get it to stay, I would.
Plus, since it is a free ride and all, i'm sure Knott's will get more than just this over the next few years.

I'm sad this ride is going; I always loved it. For the past couple years since there has been talk of it moving I always made a point of riding it just in case it would be my last at CP. Looks like this year it was

Despite Cedar Point being considered Cedar Fair's flagship property (due to it being rather iconic), it is not the chain's top performing park. Knott's Berry Farm is the company's most visited theme park and it also brings in the most revenue.

Knott's Berry Farm is year long and CF's Hollywood star so I can see why it needs love to put the company's best foot out there in that mega-competitive market.

Man, I wish I had that clip about Buster talking about Knott's Berry Farm on the show Arrested Development.

I'm curious where you got that? I was under the impression that most publicly traded amusement park companies never reveal individual park statistics, but instead group stats like revenue and attendance in one large sum in quarterly/annual reports. While attendance is higher at Knotts, I don't think you can assume that it brings in the most revenue. Variables like In-park spending, season passes sold, and group sales should also be taken into consideration.

I think this is a good move. Demon Drop is a fun ride for KBF with a better capacity than the Screamin' Swing and it frees up space at Cedar Point.

Looks like it's official...sans the announcement of course.

Knott’s Berry Farm to add 1980s-era thrill ride in 2010 - Travel - LATimes.com

Let me enlighten you. In 1982 a lil' place of no great importance called SFMM installed an Intamin first generation freefall ride labeled, surprisingly, Freefall. Now, said Freefall was demolished last year & now Cedar Fair LP has decided to bring the same aging model to KBF & pass it off as something brand spanking new. I must assume that Southern California residents were so easily fooled by the Clown Coaster chassis changes, Rocket Rods, Mulholland Madness renovation & whatnot that they're gullible enough to accept anything.

You're right. I guess we just can't add in the acquisition of Snoopy & the Peanuts™ gang license into the equation that came with the buyout of the Farm.

Well...if you want to free up space over at CP with hand-me-downs how about giving Magnum XL-200 to KBF then? That would free up a LOT of space.

^ One post in 8 years?! This is the only thing that got you going?

I'm glad the LA Times blog was straight to the point and real in terms of 2009.

You know what? I really wish more of that made sense. A lot of it was totally unrelated to what you quoted...

I think a first gen Intamin free fall ride is perfect fit for KBF.

To me, KBF seems like an "in between" amusement park for the LA area. Most parents take their kids to Disneyland when they're small. Eventually the kids will outgrow or get bored of the rides there (I personally have yet to outgrown anything at DL) and the parents will have to take them somewhere else. They have two options: Six Flags Magic Mountain or KBF. Although SFMM has an incredible assortment of coasters, most tend to be too extreme to be considered as the stepping stone after DL. KBF, who happens to be a 10 min drive from DL, seems to have just the right mix of coasters for those who are ready for the next level of thrills. Starting with a spinning wild mouse, working up to a Vekoma boomerang, then maybe a B&M Invert, and finally graduating with an Intamin LSM.

I recall a stage in my own life. It was right around 6th or 7th grade when I started to become braver and more adventurous. My first MEGA (Desperado) came when I was 13. Not much after, I was ready to tackle the demon drop. During my visit, my fiance and I noticed that the majority of the patrons were pre-teen to early teen in age. I think this ride is perfect for that crowd. At a little over 130 feet, it'll be intimidating, but still do-able for most of the parks patrons. A second gen free fall tower at 200 plus feet would probably be too big, intimidating, and have very little ridership.

This has my curiousity stirred up as to what will be built on the freed up space. The CGI woody wrapping around Space Spiral and DD's footprint is looking more and more likely. Especially with SFMM making plans to take the coast record.

Revenue includes all those variables you mentioned. What did you assume I meant when I typed revenue? Just admission tickets? Definitely not.

I recall an article published a year or two ago where Dick Kinzel was quoted as saying Knott's being head-to-head or slightly ahead in terms of revenue pull for the partnership. Give me a while to dig that up.
