BGT Happenings

Over the past week, new construction markers have been appearing at Busch Gardens Tampa, possibly for a new attraction or roller coaster.

Some places to see photos of the markers:

^If you scroll down farther, you will see details to the planned additions, including a Grover themed kiddie coaster... sorry, no 500 foot Inverted wooden spinning stand up 4D Aquatrax.

Yeah but that's what they're installing in 2010, we're looking forward to 2011 when they will most likely get a bigger coaster. I think it actually will be Intamin this time, and I am definitely hoping for a launched Megalite...though a new B&M concept/launched coaster would be pretty awesome.

^^^The terms "new concept" and "launched coaster" don't normally go with "B&M" in the same sentence, unless the sentence is something like "B&M lacks originality; it frustrates me that they simply are not willing to make a new concept or a launched coaster as Intamin does."

Also, seeing as more than half of the park is for the animals, and seeing as how the park is also a leading animal conservation facility, I doubt they would expand one inch into the animal areas. So, therefore, the only remaining plot big enough for a large coaster would be that grassy area where Gwazi is. Granted, it would be awesome to have a coaster intertwine with Gwazi, but that's still the last remaining place. Assuming Busch Gardens is willing to deal with people other than B&M for major coasters, I'd like to see an Intamin Launched coaster there, for variety's sake. Otherwise, we'd likely end up seeing a floorless or a flyer in that spot, given that no one has ordered a stand up sice 1999, and that's not enough space for a B&M hyper, as they like to build out and backs with a helix, and that's about it. (Again, we haven't seen anything Raging Bull-ish since 1999, so they probably aren't going to build anything creative to fit there.) Intamin could probably fit a hyper twister in there pretty easily, but I don't know how willing BGA is to orders something from Intamin.

The Scape mentioned a low lieing launching Intamin. It could be like Seaworld Australia's jet ski coaster or Maverick.

I think BGT would do something more thrilling than a jet ski coaster...and Tanks4me I bet they will build in the area that they are placing markers...which is over by Edge of Africa and Rhino Rally. Screamscape also said that they could likely be removing the water portion of Rhino Rally to make room for the new ride. BGT also has more land over by Montu where the old parking lot was. I bet they would do something like Manta and incorporate an animal exhibit with the ride.

As for the jet ski coaster... I could see that being a smart investment. Cheetah Chase is really the only coaster targeted at families (unless you count Scorpion, which I'm hesitant to do) and it's just a wild mouse. Plus the last big coaster was Sheikra, which is very much a high-intensity thrill ride. I think it's always smart to have at least one good, solid coaster that everyone can enjoy.
That said, I wouldn't be surprised if they added a flyer, considering the success of Manta.

Why would they put up a flyer when manta is an hour away. Florida needs an airtime machine.

Yeah I doubt they would get a flyer, and honestly I hope they don't get one...Manta was great, and it could have been a lot better, but I couldn't see the ride being much different at BGT. You'd probably be more likely to see a flyer at BGW sometime rather than at BGT ever. They could get something like PowderKeg though, which SDC has made a little more family oriented...yet I still see BGT going for something better.

I like this idea. Powder Keg is an outstanding ride. Lots of airtime and the launch is much more powerful than it has any right to be as a family ride. I would love to see what a Busch park could do with that concept.

Even though I have never even been a part of this site really, this is my two cents...

BGT needs a little more family appeal in terms of attractions/rides. I think the park has maxed out it's space due to the large footprints of the B&Ms there, and the only "space" left is the concert area in Gwazi's territory. Although the park is getting a nice little family ride, I think more effort could be made at this point to promote it more family friendly. There is one simple solution.

DRAGON LAND (or whatever it's called) MUST GO!

Honestly, Jungala already is more superior in terms of entertainment to the GP's kids than Dragon Land at this point. Also, the walk from Gwazi to Sheikra is ridiculously long with "Dragon Land" not offering anything to the older GP. If that area were to be renovated to something more "attractive" I can easily see a few more restaurants, maybe another water ride/flat ride, and even a roller coaster that could extend only a short ways into the concert area if most of its footprint is within Dragon Land's area.

What do you guys think?

Land of the Dragons is transforming into Sesame Street as we speak...BGT is adding a kiddie coaster for 2010 in that area too. I think BGT actually has a lot for the family to do, with a lot of rides in Timbuktu and numerous animal exhibits...I know my nephews would love to just sit and look at animals for hours if they were there.

BGT has a lot of land, they have land on the other side of Montu and they also have a lot of the Edge of Africa they could use for a coaster, which is where it is rumored to be, and they are taking out the water section of Rhino Rally, which is also where the coaster is rumored to run through. This is where there have been numerous survey markers. They have more land than that, too...a fair amount back by Kumba and Congo River Rapids.

I don't see BGT going for a large family coaster, and this coaster is also rumored to have multiple launch sections...While nothing is confirmed yet, I'd bet on a launched coaster - which I would then bet it will be something new from B&M or something like Maverick from Intamin. I guess a hyper isn't out of the question either. Screamscape also said that this could be another new area, taking a few years for the full transformation to take place. So a coaster may not even be on the way until 2012/2013, but I sure hope it will come in 2011.

Also, someone brought up Sea World in Australia's Jet Rescue motorbike coaster...Sea World in Australia isn't affiliated with Busch.

There's gold, gold! The 'Scape has a picture sent in by smart phone of gold B&M track supposedly sitting on BGT grounds.

Yea I saw it behind BGA. Its made out of solid gold not paint and the trains are lined with diamonds and rubies. There is about 700 feet of drop track and then the coaster goes from sit down to inverted.
There wont be any lines as each rider gets thier own train.

Dont believe anything you see or hear today

Not everything on April 1st is a joke...and I just hope this isn't! Could it be a hyper? Or could it be something new from B&M?

Its Manta, photoshopped gold. This was proven by a TPR forum contributor. From johnnyupsidedowns manta collection taken in 2008.

I was happy instead if it was a B&M. I'm not surprised if it was photoshopped, SFMM took a pic from sixflagsneworleans.com and used it after some work for their Mr. Six coaster promo.

Okay so now screamscape is saying from their reliable source that this ride is supposed to have 3 launch sections...seeing as that it is rumored to have a cheetah theme, I can't see it launching over 65 mph, but I sure hope it is faster. And 3 launch zones could certainly say something about this ride actually having a great length for a launch coaster.

The top end is where the Rhino Rally water portion currently is.

The water section was closed when I went on Rhino Rally years ago so it wouldn't be a loss to me.

The water section wasn't anything too special...this coaster looks like it has great potential, hopefully it turns out to be an intense Intamin coaster like Maverick. I just wish they had found something detailing the height and speed of the ride, or any inversions. It looks like it could just be low to the ground throughout, but the second "launch" could even be like Maverick's lift hill followed by a drop...I can't wait to find out!
