Valleyfair! 2011

Please do let me know if I posted this in the wrong forum because even though it is confirmed, speculations (rumors) are still up for what it may be.

Quote:
A substantial expansion is coming to Valleyfair for the start of the 2011 season.

Officials for the 34-year-old amusement park in Shakopee will reveal the details on Aug. 6. Click here to read more...
I figured VF was going to get something soon and I definitely could see a new family section. Planet Snoopy has been the speculation for the park, but the official announcement will be next week. Maybe they will surprise us with something more than just a kids section?

It's in the right place until the park comes out with their own annoucement-PR package of what it could be. I sense it could be bigger than the other parks like a new kiddie land. A new kiddie coaster would be nice.

^Well if you go by the rumors from earlier this year, this is going to be Mild Thing's last season and a new kiddie coaster (more than likely a Roller Skate) will come and replace it.

So another Woodstock Express rollerskater. It's a good model to get.

Well if the rumors pan out, it looks that way. I sure do hope so. The park could use another credit, and updating their kiddie coaster is a great idea -- 'specially if it turns out to be a Rollerskate. Those are fun rides for everybody.

^&^^ except if that were the case, they wouldn't be having the announcement ceremony during Snoopy's birthday party IN Kidzville.

I think one of their biggest needs for a while has been to redo their kids section(s). It's all just seemed dead since they took out Berenstain Bear Country.
And the next thing should be a total revamp of the water park. Been saying this for years - get rid of Excalibur, expand the water park that way, and use the tunnel as the entrance.
But I wouldn't say no to a nice B&M (invert, floorless, whatever).

^The addition of the wave pool was a nice start for their waterpark.
I think they need to take out the IMAX theatre and expand the waterpark there.

^The IMAX isn't going anywhere. Mainly because it is one of the few air conditioned buildings in the park and its also a very good severe weather shelter that can hold lots of people. I don't see them taking out Excalibur for a long time. They have been putting money into that ride the past few years by redoing the wheel system on the cars for a smoother ride as well as just overall good maintenance on the ride.

I would love to see the old section of the waterpark see a re-vamp and for it to expand but being space is limited as well as funds to do it I am not sure it will be done within the next few years. When Renegade was installed that took a lot of possible expansion land away. Planet Snoopy (Yeah I know its not announce yet but its pretty much confirmed as far as I am concerned.) will be a great improvement to the park. After the facelift they got this season I cant wait to see the plans for how they designed Planet Snoopy.

I agree with Steel, I would love to see a B&M get installed in the park. (Invert more than anything since that is the most plausible right now.) I also would love to see the park improve their customer service and change just overall park operations. Right now they suck and the training program they use for their staff suck. (Mainly food/retail wise, ride operations seems to be fine but they need to work on being efficient.) I have worked in the retail/hospitality industry now for long enough to know how a place should be run to deliver an amazing experience to the customer and Valleyfair falls way short and a lot of it is because they do not have the technology to do it like other parks do. I hope this will change in the next year or so other wise attendance will still hurt the park mainly because they will not be able to obtain repeat business due to bad customer service.

Anyways that was my little rant. Thoughts anyone?

On top of what Alan said, they said between the cost of removing it and the cost of adding something in its place, it would be a VERY hefty (hefty hefty) expansion/project, and they think that IMAX is in a good enough condition and is a nice venue. In their defense, the shows are usually pretty populated the majority of the days I go there. Always seems to be herds of people going in. Is it just for the air conditioning? Probably, but still.

I'm all for removing it, I'm just saying they probably aren't. They gave valid reasons and seemed not so fond of the idea. It wasn't even one of their Coaster Craze Future Expansion type of answers where they say "Oh we have no idea . . . nothing's been confirmed,".

Any Chance for a Motion Simulator or a Sally Interactive Dark Ride in the Former IMAX Space?

I Haven't been there since 03 so I'm probably way off on this.

I'm for a B&M invert at Valleyfair! and Kennywood. Inverted gives it that extra kick of uniqueness.

Thank you for backing me up Matt. I appreciate it.

DHollon, you really don't know as much about Valleyfair as you think you do so it would be nice for you to listen to what other people have to say once in a while. Remember, we live in Minnesota and visit the park many more times a year than I am sure you do. Sorry but after those 2 smart comments you made after my post it really make it very evident you don't know everything.

Anyways I attended the announcement today and was very pleased. This has been needed ever since MOA lost Snoopy. I hope this will draw the attendance numbers the park is looking for next year and look forward to seeing the progress of the construction.

Well thats enough posting from me for a while. Time to go back to my social and work life for the next few months.

How about a little less with the flames and a little more with the information on the new area since all we have is a very transparent press release and a photo that has very little detail. I mean since you live you there and everything and visit the park so often.

Well you needed to be put in place for a change since you do like to do the same to other people, and really there isn't any more detail than what has been released. The photo and PR is all that was revealed at the announcement. Mild Thing will be going and a new coaster will replace it but they gave no word on what the new rides are or who is making them so we all have to wait for more details.

Well I wish I knew anything about Valleyfair! so I could judge on the likelihood the IMAX stays or goes but I wish the new coaster was a Vekoma rollerskater or a longer Miler coaster.

This is like the Hershey project coverage. I'm not as in depth as a regional guy here as the locals on Keystone Thrills checking out the surveying a couple times/day at the park.

They say it will have "6 New Rides"

For Me, With the Exception of the Small Coaster, I Don't see any new rides really.

Maybe, It's Me but based on the 2010 map, I Would've put a Brand New Kids Area behind/near Wheel of Fortune or where Antique Auto's is.

GAmfanboy, the current kids area desperately needed an upgrade. It's been dead since they took out BBC and they also had these weird tot spots by Corkscrew and High Roller. They really needed to get it organized. The park isn't big enough to need multiple kids sections. I'm hoping they'll be able to preserve some of the pretty stuff by High Roller's lift.
