I was wondering how good Legend really is, i havent seen many pictures of it so i want to hear from someone whos actually been on it. Is it a top 5 or top 10 woodie? Also how good is the Raven? Which wooden coaster is better?

k, first off, i haven't been ther but i know alot about it. from what i hear, legend is excellent and is a top 3 woodie in the country, while raven is atleast a top 10. both are excellent rides and it is probably the best 2 wood combo at any park. actually come to think it, it is the best 2 woods at any one park.

The Legend is one of the most intense coasters on the planet. I don't rate coasters in a "Top 10", just great, good, OK, and never ride again. But The Legend and Raven are both in my great column, as well as many people's top 10.

They are both world-class.

Well, first off, I live approximately 30 minutes from Holiday World and have been there 5 times in the last 3 years.

The Raven is a great rollercoaster and is my favorite woodie in the world. I have ridden quite a few of them, too. Here's why:

-GREAT start to throw you off-guard a little bit
-WONDERFUL dive toward a lake and turns that come out of nowhere in the woods.

However, it does have some bad parts:

-Short length (about 1:30)
-Bumpy (not as bad as some, but a little rattly)

It is definately one of my favorites and is the Discovery Channel's pick for #1 Rollercoaster in the U.S.

The Legend is intresting. It has a cool first drop that twists so you aren't facing the way you were when you started the drop (like the Wildcat at Hershey Park). However, it has NO theming except the Ichabod Crane-like school house station. Pay careful attention to the chalkboard...it says something different each day. It ends with a wonderful double-helix. I recommend riding it at least twice, once in the very front (THE SMOOTHEST WOODIE I HAVE EVER RIDDEN) and once in the very back (AIR-TIME CITY!!!!!).

They also have a wonderful water park! In my opinion, it's second in the world only to Blizzard Beach. It has many many wonderful slides and a wave pool and a lazy river and something for everyone. However, you must remember Holiday World is a "family thing" and a family park so it will close before sundown. They have the second-largest compilation of rides for kids in the country (second only to Cedar Point). They have a fairly neat Log Flume and the River Rapids is one of the best. They also have many carnival rides such as a Scrambler and a Tilt-A-Whirl. They also have The Banshee, which is very neat.

Holiday World can get very crowded on weekends, but if you plan your day correctly, you can be fine. Here's what I suggest:

1) RUN to the Legend (get a park map and plan) and ride it at LEAST twice. The crowds can get immense or can stay really small.

2) Continue around the park in a clockwise manner until you have ridden everything you would like (don't miss the river rapids, but skip the water park for now).

3) Have lunch.

4) Go to the water park. You can spend anywhere from 15 minutes to 3 hours there. I recommend the 3 hours, of course!!

5) Ride the Raven as many times as you wish, and you may want to hit the Legend and Banshee again while remembering Frightful Falls Log Flume (read the tombstones!!)

6) Ride anything else you wish again and again. (Oh yeah!! The Roundhouse is a great ride!!)

7) Grab a funnel cake on your way out (I think they're the best anywhere).

Eat supper OUTSIDE the park, unless you want to pay another $2 for a hot dog.

There are many good things about Holiday World, however. They have free Pepsi drinks all day long! This is a promotion by Pepsi and they have little help-yourself fountains all over the park. Plus you can stop by any restaurant and get a drink for free.

I think Holiday World is best done in one day; however if there are immense crowds it may take you two. Have fun and enjoy Southern Indiana!!

Oh yeah, if possible, come again during the "Stark Raven Mad" event...the Raven has NO LIGHTS WHATSOEVER and during this event (which happens semi-annually or so) the park has special hours and stays open until like 10:00 at night. It takes the Raven to a whole new level of divinity!!

Also if possible, visit the Lincoln Memorial State Park nearby (within like 10 miles). It's worth your time!!

HAVE FUN AND ENJOY!!!!!!
To answer your question The Legend is INCREDIBLE. I have never experienced any coaster with this extreme of a ride. As for top ten, I don't judge wood and steel together, so Legend is my #1 wood. Raven is ranked #1 by Amusement today because its a wonderful all round coaster, but it pails in comparison with Legend. However, even the Raven beats all the other woodies I have ridden, and I have ridden a lot. Thus in my book Raven is #2 for wood. All I have to say is this, I drove 13 hours to get there, and it was worth every penny of the trip.
