| CP Expansion?
sry if another thread tlaks bout this but nothing showed up in search anyways could anybody tell me how CP would be able to build another coastr wiothout taking down an older one...i kno really the only way is to expand their boundaries but how would they do that..where..u have studied and looked at their park map continuously and tried to figure out possible areas in the park where they could build another coastr and there really is no space?...what do u guys suggest or think? |

Trust me... there is more than enough space at the park. I could go on for hours about spots where they can place a new ride. Their map doesn't really show "blank space" because the map is a cartoon. A few months ago I charted a plane to fly over the park and there is space everywhere. Here are the few biggest places: 1. Boneyard 2. Cedars Hotel err Dorms 3. Gold Dorm 4. Employee parking at the front of the park 5. The beach by Wicked Twister 6. Dodgem's 1 site 7. Frontier Town back by Planning and Desgin - Andrew Hyde Author: Experience The Point: Guidebook to Cedar Point |

As I like to say, they can always intertwine any new coasters with some that are currently standing. For something like Raptor that could work in the rides favor, as with creative planning you can put in foot-chop visuals. The only problem is where to house the queue, but otherwise it could be done.

Where would you think that Cedar Point could have fit a 300+ foot coaster? They have a LOT more land available than you think, and they certainly aren't looking to take any coasters out any time soon. Some smaller, older attractions may be relocated to other parks or taken out entirely, but those are only minor changes to the layout of the park. In addition to Andrew's suggestions for space, they could also take out employee parking by the Gemini, and the main parking lot could be consolidated with a parking garage / tram system. I reiterate, however, that nothing that drastic is likely anytime soon.

Coastr Crazy 72, The boneyard is Cedar Point version of a "junk yard". It is located just north of the third hill on Millennium Force. Right now dirt hills and fences surround it, but inside it(as far as I can tell) has a train for Mine Ride, a few cable cars, and other stuff. Dodgem 1 was sent to Michigan Adventure's this past year and right now its just a big flat piece of land. Yes, I have a site: http://www.experiencethepoint.com Melissa, I agree with the fact I don't think we will see any major changes to the layout of Cedar Point soon - atleast in the next 5 years. The downside to a parking structure is cost and it would block the wonderful view from the causeway. I do remember hearing that Cedar Point weaves attractions on top of each other to make the midway more fun. - Andrew Author: Experience The Point: Guidebook To Cedar Point |

Coastr Crazy, I want you to do two things. First, do a search on the Net for Blackpool Pleasure Beach. It is a park in England that has a huge collection of coasters. Look at the park map and see how they fit all of these rides into a relatively small footprint. If that doesn't convince you that Cedar Point has plenty of room for additions, I don't know what will. Second, do a search on the Net for Hooked on Phonics. Your spelling is atrocious and I would be more interested in reading your posts if it didn't take me 10 minutes to figure them out. I am not trying to slam you. I just don't want your ideas to be overshadowed by the posts themselves. I am sure you have a lot to offer to the discussion.

in the bone yard last year they had the old cars to the midway lift. there is room if the picnic areas are moved farther into the parking lot, it would look really cool if they had a verticle loop going over the top of the entrance. and plenty of room near the WT. |
Originally posted by HyperDude94 wouldnt it be just complete pandamoniom getting out at night especially after the summer spectacular
That's a good point, but a lot of parks have those late night laser / fireworks shows and the crowds do get weeded out. A lot of people don't bother staying for it, and others stay on site so aren't headed for the parking lots. I didn't suggest a parking garage to increase the total amount of parking, just to "double up" on one area so they could expand the park into the lots themselves -- the total cars could remain the same.

Don't Worry they'll find room. After all they're almost garinteed a 400 foot (Full Circut) coaster in 2011. And they have LOTS of potental for other rides. Oh and if you don't believe me on the 400 foot thing check this: *1978 Gemini 125 feet *1989 Magnum XL-200 205 feet *2000 Millennium Force 310 feet Is it just me or does CP bump the full circut hieght mark up every 11 years?

Hey Melissa, I seem to remember the tram service you speak of. In fact, sometimes at closing we would ride it back to our car in Gemini 36 or Iron Dragon 38. What parking Garages do is park a lot of cars in a small space. If any of you have been to a big city for a ball game or hockey game or whatever...you know the hassles of getting out, right? It would still be the same at CP, all you need is some patience. Sometime soon we will see the entrance moved back a bit and some garages popping up. As far as 400 foot coasters...I have some info on that, but you will have to read my TR to find out.

I've heard about the tram service that Cedar Point used to have long ago, but I'm afraid it was before my time... :D :D :D I'm not sure why it's discontinued, at least in July and August when the crowds are heaviest and people are parking all the way in the back. We always stayed at Breakers anyway so we were close by, but I know I'd be a bit upset after a hectic day in the park and then having to walk all the way to the end of the parking lot... Of course, it's nothing compared to the size of Disney lots and so forth, but still!

You DO know that Breakers was built in 1906, don't you? Hard to blame them for not having the foresight to know that they would be one of the largest amusement parks in the world 100 years later. What were they thinking?

wahooskipper, Hotel Breakers opened in 1905. KoasterKing, Cedar Point was going to be a hotel park. The owners hated amusment park rides and in-fact another hotel which was going to be 3x the size of the Breakers was on the drawing board. Of course they later changed their minds.... But they will never remove any of the hotels because they make MEGA bucks off them. CedarPoint_Mark, If anything I think you will see parking lost not gained on-Point. I really don't see them moving back the entrance espically that they are in the middle of real doing that whole plaza. HyperDude94, it really isn't bad after "summer spectacular" since only about 1000 people watch it on average and some will head towards the back after to ride - they all don't head towards there car. Melissa, I *think* I have a tram brochure or postcard around here - I'll see if I can find it. It can take hours to get off the Point after a Saturday in July. Maybe down the road we will see a off-point mini parking lot. Perhaps in the flat, empty area to the right of the start of the causeway. - Andrew Hyde Author: Experience The Point |

Actually, I was partially wrong. Breakers was BUILT in 1905 but opened for the 1906 season.

No, Hotel Breakers opened on June 12, 1905. If you still don't belive me, heres the official word from Cedar Point: http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/news/history/f.cfm - Andrew Author- Experience The Point: Guidebook To Cedar Point |

the most interesting thing of those overhead shots is how big that parking lot is in the middle of the peninsula, by soak city kind of. they could do a lot with that space if they could somehow relocate that parking.

Well, that lot is for Soak City day guests as well as employees. The only viable option is to relocate the lot of build a garage. There was consideration of building a garage with the Breakers East expansion happened, and then again when the Tower was built. Of course, it didn't happen. I think if there is another expansion of Breakers that might be the time we see a garage back in the Resort area. I could see a garage that would accommodate Breakers and Sandcastle guests as well as employees. If you went with something ala the Universal/IOA garages then you could also handle Soak City parking.

I think I also heard about what Andrew said about going over the midway to make it more exciting, plus they even have room in the middle of the park, not only on the outskirts, I mean look at Iron Dragon, a great ride in itself, and it has many trees, good speed, good length, and it goes over a lake, it is fun and it was pretty scary at first too. A good ride all around.

True, Iron Dragon uses the land it has very well indeed. Not like I'd be prejudiced for the coaster or anything... :D At any rate, there is much more space on those islands than you'd think there is.

thanks a lot crash, that really helped the discussion, I never realized how much space was on the island that Millennium Force's middle section, it has a bunch of land and I think on this site, there was rumor that they would mak a type of thrill zone, which would house giant huss type rides and other drop rides, in addition to their Power Tower (worse than I thought it would be), they could put in the tallest Intamin First Generation Freefall at like 350ft. That would be cool.

That is a really great picture (I've seen one similar, awhile ago), and you really can pinpoint where the space is most prevalent. For example, along the Frontier Trail, or in the back of the park, certainly. But remember, some of that space is still needed for housing maintenance vehicles and so forth. Nevertheless, there is a lot more there than you'd ever think! :D
