Knott's and Paul Reuben

Does anyone know the whole story about Paul Rueben and The opening of Xcelerator at KBF? I don't know the complete story, but from what I hear, while people were waiting for the first ride on Xcelerator, Paukl Reuben just pranced in expecting to be able to ride. Well anyway, KBF told him to leave. I think that is hilarious. This guy thinks he is such a big shot.

I don't know if it's true, but I wouldn't doubt it. He does act like some kinda big shot like you mentioned.

HAHA, that's pretty funny.I wonder why he thinks he should get the first ride, all he has is a big track record, who cares lol. BTW, how big is his track record? Isn't it like 800 or some rediculous amount of rides?

Well, he is a writer for an amusement park industry magazine or something like that. But what makes him think that he can show up uninvited and get on it like he made a donation.

::laughs:: When I first read this thread I thought that everyone was refering to the actor Paul Rueben (a.k.a Pee- Wee Hermen). I have always found his work to be histerical- and wouldn't have minded if he got a first ride.

So who is this old guy that thought he should be first in line, just a writer?

He's also been on a couple of coaster shows. I"m pretty sure he was on one of last year's shows on the discovery channel.

I hope Robb Alvey doesn't get angry that you're sucking up his bandwith by dirrectly linking that photo. That might keep him from releasing the Stark Raven Mad 2002 and CoasterCon XXV updates.

I'm surprised that none of you know that he is the Senior Editor for Park World Magazine. Paul Ruben was also at Knott's Berry Farm on Tuesday, trying to get some rides on Xcelerator. He walked right up to the station to find that the pulley overshot and would be closed. He was then escorted back to look at the PLC and such. Here is a picture, and yes that is me in front of him. It's uploaded on ACN, don't worry... I'm staff.

Yeah I agree I don't like him very much. He is on America's Greatest Roller Coaster Thrills: The Next Generation. They refered to him as a "roller coaster expert." At that time of recording he says that he had been on 532 diffferent roller coasters, saying not that he's compulsive, but then adding that he's been on all of those in North America, South America, Europe and the Far East. I don't know why he just pranced to the station thinking he could get in the ride without waiting (is that the story, I dunno).

May I add that Xcelerator looks awesome though!:sun:

Yeah he also tried to cut n front of 20people in line for Suprme Scream. But the ride op wouldn't let him cut in front of the line so he starts showing all the coaster clubs hes apart of and his press ID but thankfully the ride op didn't give in. You know he would have only had to wait about 5min.

Yeah, I hate the way celebrities are always getting better stuff than normal people. I've never actually heard about this guy, but I didn't think it was too much of a strech that you guys were talking about Pee-Wee Herman. He sounds just as annoying, lol.

Bravo for Knotts. Cedar Fair won't let celebs cut in line.

People in the newsgroup RRC blame others for parks not having as many coaster club events. Well, here ya go, one of your own screwed up. And from reading the messages in RRC, it's not the first time, he's done this at other parks.
If I was a park manager, and someone who represents ACE and a magazine can't get to the park early and stand in line with everyone else, then no coaster club events. Real fans camp out for the first ride in the front.
Now where are you Paul? If you're such a coaster fan then respond, errr, apologize. You're the reason why parks don't have coaster events.

Knott's asinine policies and the Xcelerator

I was right there duing that interview and he was talking about how great the ride was (even though he hadn't been on it yet)
There were a dozen or so Coaster Con attendees shaking their heads behind the camera crew.

The Friday night ERT was a huge insult to ACE, considering the Knott's employees got to ride during our ERT while we looked on.
This was very uncool and stupid of Knott's, and is actually the only complaint I have about the park (along with the stapling........what is it with this park's stapling? This has to be a Knott's management thing, it's CERTAINLY not a Cedar Fair thing!

Anyway, KNott's was nice enough to give us free passes to come back either Saturday or Sunday to ride this. Since my flight back to West Virginia did not leave until late Saturday night I was able to come back and ride it once. That's all I needed!
I must say it was well worth the minor hassle to get back to the park, however, it it still very uncool to have the Xcelerator as part as our scheduled ERT and then suddenly take it off! It was a slap in the face, especially for those who fly across the country to ride this. X being down earlier that week at SFMM was a huge dissapointment, but I knew it was down before I even came out, so that wasn't much of a surprise.
I know a lot of ACER's had to fly back Saturday, and was very disgusted and very pissed off that they could not get to ride Xcelerator Friday night, especially after realizing that X was down.
Still, the five parks I visited during the week were all new to me, so all the coasters were uncharted territory, and I had a blast!!!!

I hear Xcelerator is already broke down? What is it with these prototype coasters?
I will definately come out to California again, maybe not in the near future but within a year or two. I especially loved the Santa Monica area!

NO MORE STAPLING!!!! (should we organize a no-stapling group?) This is so insane. One fellow was pinned down so hard on Ghostrider that his eyeglasses in his knapsack broke.......another lady I talked to was stapled down so tight on Ghostrider that she had to leave the park due to a sharp pain in the side of her stomach. I, myself, managed NOT to get stapled.....well, sort of......not to the point where the circulation was cut off to my legs!!! God forbid if we leaned over the gates to hi-five our fellow enthusiasts coming back into the station.

(look for some Coaster Con photos up on my site in a few days!!)

Haha, giving an interview on a ride he hasn't even ridden. This guy has been on every show on the travel cannel. I'm so sick of seeing him on the shows. Ahh, get off lol.

I knew it wasn't Paul Reubens of Pee Wee herman fame (hey, isn't he the reason why some parks will not allow Single Riders in the back seat?)... acutally, when I saw the guy on some coaster show, I looked at my wife and said "Hey, I thought Dave Thomas (of Wendy's fame) died a few months ago?"

Anyway, this guy does NOT impress me... neither does anyone else either who proclaim them selves "Experts" simply because they can go around envoking the name of ACE or anything else. Not making a gernalization about ACE or other groups, but personally, I have found anyone on any of those shows that envokes those initials to be a bit... well... arrogant.

Personally, I have no time for self appointed experts.

I'm tired of him too. Just sent an e-mail to Discovery with a link to this thread telling them not to use that interview.

I was watching this guy on the Travel Channel last night during their Coasters of the West series (or whatever it's called). It was good except for this prima donna taking up most of the camera time. Talk about egotistical! Yeah...so he knows his coasters... big whoop. But I think that putting this guy in his place at Knotts was well overdue. He ain't THAT special.

Just because he has been on so many coasters doesn't make him more knowledgable then most of us. Half of us probably know as much, or more then he does.

alpie -

Why would you want to be Paul Ruben other than his job? Would you really enjoy talking with a lisp, have a double chin, squinty eyes, fat bodily figure, and wispy white hair?

How do you know that I don't look/sound like that already? Maybe, just maybe, I've endured years of plastic surgery, or worse yet, sewn myself a "Paul Ruben" suit in some sort of sicko "Silence of the Lambs" sorta way...

and now I'm just biding my time, looking for a chance to dart him and take over his life... I'll probably need a BIG dart though, huh?

Nah, I just like his job....

There's an image of him that will always stick out in my mind. On one of the travel cahnnel shows "Coasters of The West" ( I think ) There was some video of him riding S:TE, sitting very scrunched up and turning his head back and forth, and at that moment, he sorta looked like a mole... or maybe a moleman. Hans Moleman!
