I looked at the Busch parks and I wish California had a Bush Gardens. I was hoping Bonfante Gardens would be like Busch Gardens, but it turns out that Bonfante Gardens is just another Disneyland. I want a Busch Gardens in California. Who else agrees with me?

There actually was a Busch Gardens once in LA. I don't know much about it. I think it went under right around the time Knott's started adding coasters (1976?) My mom used to go there all the time. Too bad it folded instead of continuing...it could have been awesome.

Technically, there is a Busch park in California. Sea World San Dieago.(sp?) It's not the same as Busch Gardens, but it is a Busch park.

It'd be interesting, but I don't think Busch is going to build any more parks right now, especially since they just sold off SW Ohio.

It wouldn't happen anytime soon or it would have to happen like this year. Six Flags is kind of marking thier territory in California. It would have to be built more to the center of California. SFMM is dominating the southern california and SFMW is starting to take over Northern California. But with all those electrical problems in California i don't think it will ever happen

Busch should do something in Arizona. From what I see, Arizona has almost nothing as far as coasters and parks. AZ has the people, it has the space, and it has some tourism too. A Busch park in Arizona would work, IMHO.

Ah, if only. Magic Mountain, the Disney complex, Knotts, Marine World, Paramount's Great America, and Busch Gardens California.

Perhaps an Asian-themed park from Busch should be nice in California.....

Believe it or not, there was a Busch Park in California: Busch Gardens Van Nuys. It opened in 1966 sometime after the Tampa park opened. Originally admissions were free. Like the Tampa park, it was not an amusement or theme park as such, but more of an elaborate beer garden, with a tropical theme in this case, where people could drink Michelob or Budweiser, and relax amongst the gardens. There was a trained bird show there too. Busch Gardens The Old Country (now BGW) was a theme park from the get-go, and from around the early 70s, the Van Nuys park was slowly turned into a theme park as well. I posted a query on this in rec.roller-coaster and most of the responses from people who had visited the park said that the park had a log flume where the logs went behind a waterfall. There was also a monorail that toured the brewery and a tropical boat cruise that was built by Arrow. I'm not sure when it closed, but it was largely due to complaints about noise, so they were forced to close. At least this is what I've heard. They planned an expansion in 1974 that would have given it turn of the century architecture and a minature roller-coaster, but whether or not they ever got around to this is beyond me. Had the park survived, I wonder if it would have taken on the name Busch Gardens Americana
In any case they need to build a Busch park with an S.E. Asia theme and a south of the border theme, but I doubt they'll ever get around to it.

the park was closed becuas eof continuing financial problems and because tey wanted to expand the factory, which whenever i pass in the car i shake my fist at for taking away a possible amusement park.
They sold SW of Ohio because it was their only park that was not profitable and SF offered them a $50 million dollar deal to buy the park. Even with that offer it took over a year for SF to convince them to sell. They will open a new park before too long. Look at the discovery cove parks poping up next to all the other SW parks. THose things cost over $10 million a piece. Look for a new Busch Park by 2005.

I think they are going to build a new park for two reasons:

1. they cut back on spending on thier other parks (to save money for the new park?)

2. They sold SWO (for extra spending money?)

I really think there is a new park coming but probably in St. Louis(because AG's headquarters are there)

First of all, the reason they closed the Busch Gardens in Van Nuys was because the company wanted to use the land to expand the brewery. The Amusement park arm of the company knew that they did not have the land capacity to compete with the larger Amusement parks in SoCal, and the only way that the park could become profitable would have been to expand which they couldnt do.
The park in the early 70's was mainly a brewery tour which was on a "people mover" type system. It was actually very cool as it toured the various stages of the brewing process. After the tram tour, you could drink free beer and they had the gardens, the bird show and the boat tour. This was all FREE....imagine that......FREE entertainment and FREE beer!
When the park decided to add attractions, it was still relatively low cost and the attractions were minimal. The log ride was good, there was a fun house walk through attraction that was based on a haunted mansion theme.
The amusement park only existed for about 2-3 years. Its too bad that this place closed. I wish that they would have kept the original brewery tour if nothing else.
I would love to see Busch build a large scale amusement park somewhere in the SoCal area. Perhaps near Arizona/San Diego....I don't know if there is cheap enough land down there, but it would seem to make sense if it were only a 2-4 hour drive away from a couple major city centers.

o,okay, can anybody remember the last time bucsh added a park? i think its been a while. also, i dont' see them adding one with all the cuts there making because now their focusing on the "experience" rather than the "coaster craze" which i kinda like, but it means less new stuff

I agree with coasterman098. The way Busch is acting right now with parks, it looks to me
like they dont want any expansion.

Busch has already said that they will not be installing anything new in the next few years. I really hope this isn't true. I would like to see another coaster in either SWF or BGT.
