Golden Ticket Awards

Hopefully this will not shock you too much but cedar point is the best amusement park in the world again. Millennium Force is #1 for the 2nd year in a row with magnum and TTD in the top ten. News story at Pointpagecannotbedisplayed.net sorry I didn't put in a link I need to configure my mozilla to do so.

Allow me to help you out there. You can find the results at: http://www.amusementtoday.com/2005gta82705.html

And before anyone asks, there was other parks that got Golden Tickets besides Cedar Point.

i'm dissapointed that DarKastle didn't even make it into the best new rides of 2005 or even the best dark rides. it should have beat IJST for best new ride.

it's honestly too bad that PC didn't take the Best Kid's Area, what with the excellent job that PP did w/ the Nick Central revamp this year. Carowinds never does get the recognition it deserves, but there's always next year... PKI shouldn't of gotten it again....... at least they did give us the flying scooters...those Phantom Flyers rock1!!!!

Ew. How suspicious is it that one of the contacts for that Golden Ticket Awards release is Janice Witherow, a former Cedar Fair park representative? Coincedence?

Wow Thunderhead is #1 this year. That's great because I 100% agree.

I also thing Carowinds should of gotten best kids area. It's the largest in the world I mean come on is Amusement Today an Equal Employment Oppurtunity? ;)

Yea, Magnum should not be there. Also, did TTD beat KK just because it was the original? I can understand that but I just was wondering why that was there but KK was not and they are so similar. Not a fanboy question, just a question.

/\ No, Magnum should be there. I think it's one of the best steel coasters I've ever ridden, even topping Millennium Force in my books. So it's all a matter of opinion.

As for Kingda Ka, the reason it's not in there is because 2005 was its inaugaral season and the fact that it was closed for a good amount of time due to an incident involving damaged ride parts after a freak accident on a dry test run. It has nothing to do with Top Thrill Dragster being the first of the two. Come the same time next year, I most gauranteed you that Kingda Ka will at least take its place in front of whatever place Dragster stands in the polls next year.

^ I have heard from many coaster enthusieasts that they like TTD better than KK due to the massive shaking on launch and the brake run being badly placed on the suppossed bunnyhill. ( I haven't ridden it and this is just what I've heard)

Ditto on the Thunderhead comment. Definitely deserves #1 spot in my book. Glad it got it! Woo-hoo!!!

As for Magnum, I tend to think it's the nostalgia of the whole thing. {Thinking...} Does that even make sense? I know what I mean, just not expressing well tonight.

Thats bogus that Raptor was knocked out of the top 10. It's still one of the best inverted coasters out there. Montu at number 10? Thats a little odd but I guess we all have our opinions. The top 5 are pretty accurate but I think Nitro and Phantom's revenge should flip flop.

Ugh. The Golden Tickets are such BS. The most accurate poll(s) are the online Wooden and Steel Coaster Polls, which are done by Mitch Hawker. These polls aren't biased towards U.S. coasters, and the voters are all CP fanboys.

Personally, I think Thuderhead is overly hyped. Even the night rides after a 12 hour day weren't very fast and were fairly airless. On the the other hand, after 11 hours, Shivering Timbers was absolutely flying with massive ejector air and that helix was insane!

I disagree with EGF dropping to #6 while Magnum sits at 3rd, the general consensus seems to be that EGF is the best steel coaster in the world. Magnum, on the other hand, is a terribly designed ride that is heavily trimmed. Sure, it has great airtime, but EGF (which also has massive airtime) doesn't destroy your ribs with a pretzel turnaround that appears to have been designed by austistic monkeys.

Generally, I disagree with most of the rankings in this poll, especially the fact that Balder and Colossus are left out of the top 10. Just because a coaster is not in the United States doesn't mean that it is inferior to coasters in the U.S. The Golden Tickets should be used to determine the best coasters in the U.S., as most of the enthusiasts voting in it have not left the country.

I also think that EGF should be higher up in the list, but to say that Magnum is horribly designed is insane. There are many coasters that have followed Magnum's design, and some of those made the top 25.(SF, Mamba) There is only one section of trims and I didn't even notice them on my first few rides and can barely notice them during night rides. And since when to lap bars hurt your ribs? Last time I checked they went on your lap, not your torso.

i dont see how BGW wasnt even in the top 5 for having best shows. i mean how can a six flags park beat them? CP is a great park and everything but i think its time that people start to notice that other parks may be better.

Thunderhead has tremendous air, I think what it comes down to is how full of BS you are, the more you are, the less you feel said air. ;)

Seems like every year there is the same old complaining about why Coaster A is ranked higher than Coaster B or why Park A is not the Best whatever. You could always just revive the topic about the Golden Tickets each year from the year before and just change it to the current year.

As one of the voters the last few years in the Golden Tickets (and far from a CP Fanboy), I can only vote for rides that I have been on. I have not rode Expedition Ge Force, so it is rather unfair to even rank it on my ballet. I could really care what the consensus about the ride is. I have not rode it so it will not appear on mine till I get a chance to take a spin on it. So I guess I fit into the crowd that has not made the trip out of the US, yet.

Another factor you have to look at is which region has the most ballets returned. It would be safe to say that the region with Ohio has the most that are returned. So that would explain why some of the parks and coaster in that area tend to far well. You I know it is not a perfect system. And the winners are not decided who pays for the bigger ad.

After all the Golden Tickets are something for the park to use as PR. I have said this a number of times and I will say it again. The only Top Ten list that should matter to you is your Top Ten list. There really is no need to complain about a poll that some feel is outlandish or rediculous. It is just a poll and should be treated as a poll.

Couldn't DISagree with you more. Thunderhead, from what I'm remembering, wasn't "hyped" at all! TH nor Dollywood gets [got] credit for anything until recently.

Don't know enough about Shivering Timbers to comment. Never rode it. Looks good, though.

And BTW, Thunderhead kicks anus.

The park 30 minutes to the north of FT is going on its 8th year in a row for its award.
