Paramount 2006

For 2006 paramount is getting some new additions. So far it's:

Kings Island - Avatar (Family Coaster)
Kings Dominion - Italian Job: Stunt Track

Feel free to add more to my list.

^ No. King's Island is getting only 1 coaster. Some type of spinning family coaster. Supposed to be first of it's kind.

now we wait on PGA 06....

my bet its an IJST.... (and regardless of what others think on CC, they do NEED a coaster....)

carowinds will be the only one not to get it, b/c we'll get a hyper 2007 instead ;) ..
we always do our own versions of things anyways...

"New for 2006 - Boomerang Bay QUADRUPLE the size at PGA!" :p

But seriosly, they do need a big attraction. Not exactly a coaster but something other than park improvements...and stuff...

^ Yeah Carowinds is no longer the step child of PP. It's PGA now.

I find it very odd that Viacom will not invest in that park anything decent. You've got so much competition in that state with Disney, Knott's, Six Flags.

What are they thinking?!? ;)

They simply can't compete. Thats why i think their neglecting that park.

I personally don't think PGA is getting anything next year.

we're (PC) in the upper to middle of the spectrum

neglected ---------------------------flagship
----------- PCW -------------------PKI-----
PGA---------------------Carowinds ------PKD

that's my opinion at least...

carowinds could have taken EASY first with a real BB expansion and that coaster next year.... but we'll have to settle with a tie ;)

PKD = flagship for now, simply b/c it has most of the PP project trends in the past few years... PKI could easily be up there with the excellent BB and Nick revamps that have happened/are coming.... Carowinds needs to get their act together... PCW jumped a bit up w/ IJST...

with a hyper carowinds could easily begin its track to becoming a PP flagship... the reason PP gets away with stuff is because its 3 hours to the nearest major park.... but the competition isn't fluff either: Dollywood, SFOG (and goliath now), PKD, and even BGW isn't TOO far away....

The way I see it is this...
PKI - The flagship park
PKD - The 'wanna-be' flagship park
PCW - The test center for prototypes and stuff that seems ends up at other PP
PC - The kids palace
PGA - Whats that? ;)

I don't understand this whole obsession with wanting to be the 'flagship' park.. flagship rarely means 'best.' I don't think Paramount 'neglects' any of their parks, but since PGA is landlocked they obviously don't have the room for big new stuff like the other 4 parks have. Also what each park gets is dependent on how much money they make. If PGA isn't making enough money, then there is no reason that a new coaster should be put in. Same for any of the other parks.

Confirmed:
PC - Boomerang Bay
PKI - Nick Universe
PKD - Italian Job
PCW - Mission Impossible Show

And my guess for PGA is a Scooby's Haunted Mansion.. as they are the only Paramount Park without one.

I'm not saying that i would want PC to be the flagship. I know it's not always a good thing, Look at Son Of Beast. If thats what flagship parks get then i don't want PC to be it.

I would however like to see PC move up the list of the best Paramount Parks.
I just want PC to get something major & origional and enough of this copying. Which so far PC has been pretty good at not getting any copies.

Congrats on contradicting yourself. First you say you've 'had enough of this copying' then you say they've been good 'at not getting any copies.'

That still doesn't answer my question.. wtf does being 'flagship' have to do with anything. Why do people still harp on this flagship bull****.. it doesn't make any sense.

The park will add things it thinks it will be sucessful, weather it be a waterpark retheme, a flatride or two, a 'copy' of a preexisting attraction, or a brand spanking new ride. Joe Parkguest doesn't care if theres one 700 miles away. As long as its popular, marketable, and brings people through the gates (hopefully more than one or two times) then that is what the park will decide to add.

Man I hate enthusiasts.

EDIT: I read elsewhere that PGA is sending out Season Pass flyers saying 'Watch for a new Thrill Ride in 2006!' They might have put Scooby Doo on the backburner for a flat of some sort. A Tomb Raider Top Spin would work nicely there.

I don't think of Carowinds as the kids palace. Although you could fool me with the kids expansions over the past 4 to 5 years.

IMO here is how I see PP's (after visiting PKI this year for the first time in several years).

PCW/PKD - Tie for premier park. PCW seems to have a better balance of flats and coasters. From what I've seen they have a very nice park as well.

PC - Not because it's my home park either. PC has become one of the nicest looking of the PPs. Period.

PKI - What happened to this park? They killed the Beast. My favorite wooden coaster is now so wimpy in the first half it's almost boring! The 2nd half is still the insanity it always was. But come on. What is up with those trims!

The opening rides only in the afternoon plan really got on my nerves in May. I understand the logic and all, but it still was a little annoying to have ridden everything in the park and then have to go hunt and peck and ride stuff like TR later in the day.

They do treat ACErs well, but other than that I was not impressed with them this year.

Oh and BURN DOWN SOB!!! I'll help build a bon fire!

PGA - What happened to this park? It used to be innovative and got the new rides before the other parks. Now they seem to only use it as a tax rightoff. Very sad.

I was saying Carowinds has done good at not getting copies like the other Parks have.

What can i say about PGA? Sell, sell, sell. If not sell then the park needs something and soon.

I also noticed that PKI which was my fave years ago has gone downhill a bit. The last time i went the park was just overly trashy and the once very nice employees seemed like the employees at a Six Flags park.

I would agree that out of the 4 Paramount Parks i have been to Carowinds is by far the nicest & cleanest park in the chain.

Paramount parks are well managed, and are overall great parks. My only complaint is that paramount needs to add one thing to its vocabulary: B&M.

Building 2 beemers between 5 parks, in 15 years just dosen't cut it. I think this is a main reason why everyone seems to agree that carowinds has the best coaster collection of all PPs.

Paramount! Give Monthey a call!

(opinion) on PP and Flagships

pp won't build another Scooby mansion, the license is expiring....

I think the whole concept of flagship doesn't exactly matter to what the park gets, that much i agree to - b/c PP isn't the chain to throw tons of stuff into one park (Cedar Point and Six Flags GAdv), but it is more for the honors... I think the point is to claim yourself as the nicest to the chain, but that doesn't necessarily mean get the most stuff.... PKD, IMO is clearly the park w/ the best lineup of coasters, and IJ will only further that (in the kids department). So for the time being, I think PKD is the unclear 'flagship' park. On the other hand, PKI has seen improvement after the SOB disaster (awesome BB and this year's nick expansion...)

PCW the premier park? Must disagree.. With the exception of IJ, they've gotten the lower end of everything paramount has thrown at them. PKI has gone downhill, not as bad as but coming to, the Magic Mountain of Paramount. Its once greatness seems to be declining bigtime. The latest revamps should help fix that. IMO Carowinds is the most balanced, but of course, it being my homepark, i may be biased towards it. It has awesome rides - TG:tJC, one of the most underrated inverts, Borg, the first flyer, as well as a good balance of other coasters. the Nick central revamp was amazing, and the park has become tons better... I think that Carowinds has been lucky in not getting as many cookie cutters as other PP, but with this has suffered from not getting certain rides (like FOF, and i think this is what Carowinds 73-03 meant)...

A hyper coaster could easily set carowinds very apart from other parks, and giving it a big boost towards the flagship status. Once again, flagship DOES NOT necessarily mean more stuff, just bragging rights. Only generally, the park with the most new stuff, is usually the flagship.

PP does a great job of preserving each park's respective pasts - PKI & PKD remain equal in many expansions, rides, and revamps, while carowinds usually does its own thing. PCW is totally different, being an original PP, and PGA- well PGA is just plain neglected. My guess is PGA gets IJST this year.....

My 2 cents: PGA = neglected, PCW= moderate, PC= chance to become flagship, above PCW below PKI, PKI = once flagship now second, PKD = barely a flagship for time being...

Keep in mind, its all opinion anyways.....

Why does everyone think that B&Ms are the only thing that matters to the guests? Sure, B&Ms are fun and great rides, but there's more to the coaster/ride/theme park world than B&Ms. I'm pretty sure that John Q doesnt care that his local Paramount Park has a B&M or not yet the other parks 5hrs away have 3 of them.
pp won't build another Scooby mansion, the license is expiring....
Actually, the license with HB is expiring. Scooby Doo's Haunted Mansion on the other hand is on a different contract.

Only 2 in 15 years? I think you missed a couple. Admitedly it's not alot more, but there are 2 Paramount parks with 2 B&M's each.

Carowinds
Top Gun 1999
Vortex1992

PGA
Vortex 1991
Top Gun 1993

And as the others said, while B&M makes great coasters, it's far from all about B&M.

^^ and ^^^
agreed.....
B&M doesn't make a good chain, although good chains often have B&Ms (i love using those comparisons lol)

and for ^.... agreed!!!

i'm saddened that PKI will better our nick central....

but they STILL won't have the flyers.. which is what really makes it awesome....
how many enthusiasts hang out at other park's kiddie areas.....

that's what it's all about at Carowinds.....

^ Now now, no need to get touchy there. You said 15 years, so I worked off of the 15 year timeline. Sorry if you didn't like the results. And regardless, as I've said, B&M's aren't the end all of coasters, nor does having or not having a B&M make or break a park.

It dosen't matter to me what we get. In my own opinion i prefer B&M but i would gladly take Intamin or some type of Premier launch coaster.

Maybe not, but having a B&M/intamin does make one hell of a difference.
You said 15 years, so I worked off of the 15 year timeline.
I'm sorry, 15 is close, and it just sounds better than 13. I'll be more accurate next time.

How so? 99% of the public could care less who designed and built the ride. As long as the ride is fun people will like it. I'm sure Paramount could buy a thrilling coaster from a smaller company and the guests would pile into the line to ride it. They're not going to say "hmmm, the new ride was built by a new no-name small company so I'm not going to ride it, I wish it was an Intamin:("

In conclusion, the coaster manufacturer doesn't matter to 99% of park goers.

The general public may not know who designed and built the coasters they ride, but they can recognize quality when they experience it. A B&M/Intamin coaster will almost always be the favorite ride of a park-goer.
