| | | Is Cyprus Gardens worth visiting? I am off back to Florida next May and was looking at RCDB for the coasters at Cyprus Gardens. Is it worth taking a day out of my holidays to visit the park, or is it what I expect, a very large garden with a few rides in a corner that arn't worth going for?
Please bear in mind, I don't mind walking around nice gardens (I do at Alton Towers) but all I am going to Florida for is the coasters.

| | | In my personal experiance, small (or large) less well kown parks often have one or two amazing treasures. Lightwater Valley, for example (which i'm sure you must have visited if you live in Yorkshire!), is just a wildlife reserve with about 6 or 7 mass produces kiddy coasters.... And then, theres Europes longest coaster plonked at the back of the park and it's one of my favourite coasters.
So, go with an open mind. Make the most of it as a fun day out. Any park in my opinion is worth going to at least once. And it will bump your coaster count no matter how 'crap' the rides are! You can't really loose unless you don't go.
Don't expect Alton Tower's quality stunningly beautiful gardens from America, though. :P Bah!

That's exactly what I told you. The coasters are a nice little woodie and two crappy Vekoma's. The Vekoma invert is supposed to be a family ride but it hurts like crap. That whole thing is a torture devise that made me come off with a headache. But, on the bright side, they have a nice collection of flats including a swinging ship, inverted swinging ship, this really unique bouncy thing, huge swings, and this awsome flip upside down thing called the Power Surge. Along with those they have a take you to the top and drop you tower ride, a Disk-O, and a bunch of child rides. I don't think it is that worth it unless you like looking at a bunch of gardens, like flats better than coasters, and/or you like watching water skiing shows.

| | | Ok, let me ask this- what exactly are you looking for in the park? Are you wanting major thrills and big coasters? If so, then forget it. But if you're looking for a nice atmosphere and a family park (meaning not necessarily a lot in the "big thrill" area), then you might like it.
It's a park that is meant to be shared with the family- parents and kids and grandparents all together. The rides are mostly on the mild side as a result.
As for what the park itself is really like, I'll let you know after this weekend. We're finally going to make it out there on Thursday for the first time, and I'll be getting a TR in soon after that- I hope. I'll be able to give you more details beyond what I've heard then. :)

| | | MEAMES . Cypress Gardens probably skip it and save for a later trip. Its a fun park with nice gardens and a large rides area. The rides and the coasters are more family type rides. Knowing you are into B&Ms I figure you would want more thrill for your trip. If you have time and a rent a car you should take a spin down to Boomers in Dania Beach near Ft Lauderdale and catch a ride on the Hurricane. Great medium sized wooden roller coaster except its the only one there. Depending on your travel days you could join the Florida Coaster Club for its annual club event held on a saturday in May usually mid month. Here are some photos of the Hurricane http://www.johnnyupsidedown.com/eventBDB3.html
Anyway if you have some time to kill then take a spin by Cypress Gardens its a fun park with a lot of family type flats and some good small coasters. Otherwise I would concentrate on makeing the B&M swing through Florida. Hope you get to ride Sheikra this time as I know you missed out last time. Also if you are into Thrill rides Oldtown has the giant skycoaster and sling shot along with some other rides.

| | | I agree on the Starliner comment. It should be worth going to if you are into classic coasters.

| | | I am after racking my coaster count up by as much as possible, but I am not up for going to parks where the coasters are going to dissapoint.
Yes I do prefer B&M's and I know that they don't have any of those, but I also like any coaster that gives a good ride, thinking of (off the top of my head) the Grand National at Blackpool, Spinball at Alton Towers, Thunder Mountain at Disney, Space Mountain at Disney.
But the thing is, this will be the 2nd time in 2 years I have been to Florida, Busch Garden's is on the list this time, and if Cyprus' coasters are decent and worth the entrance fee I don't mind having a look.

| | | The question is, what do you consider "decent and worth the entrance fee" They've got a spinning mouse, a Vekoma jr slc, a small family woodie, a kiddie mouse, and some similar coasters. Seems like most of what you're considering "decent" are larger coasters, meaning that you have a good chance of being disappointed with the park.

| | | I really liked the flats when I went there last May, but that was about it. The family SLC shouldn't even be a "family" SLC because it hurts like crap to ride. It is almost as rough as Shockwave at PKD. Anyway, I thought it had a good atmosphere and a nice feel to it. But, I think the entrance fee of 38 bucks should go down a little for what the park offers. Overall, I think your time would be better spent with an extra day at Sea World, IOA, Busch, ect. since you said all you were coming for were the coasters.

| | | That does sound steep. But i think Montu Man is only interested in coasters, which seems sad (as in upsetting) to me. |

| | | ^Montu Man likes rides other than roller coasters. Him and I marathon on Spiderman and Men in Black all the time. Adding on to the price thing: Does anyone know if the price was lower when it opened? When I went I don't think it was 38 dollars, but I'm not quite sure.
