| Houston Chronicle: AstroWorld Memories
If this has been posted already, let me know so I can delete the thread. Here's an interesting and well done "tribute" to AstroWorld by the Houston Chronicole, with video clips and some other fun tidbits. http://www.chron.com/content/chronicle/special/05/astroworld/index.html The interviews with the two local fans are really sad to listen to. Some here might recognize the people in the accounts. Some might not. It's an amazing tribute, and along with it, the Chronicle also published front page articles and a special separate section regarding AW's closure. Thank you to the reporter who pushed for this. Your work is appreciated. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/front/3407345

It's sad. I've never been to the park but through pictures and video I can feel the place. It has a quirkiness I'll miss.

i am going to miss astroworld so much. i've been going there since who knows when. i don't think i've gone through a summer without going at least once. i remember last year i said that during the summer when i'm in college i'll work at astroworld. apparently that isn't going to happen anymore. and for those of you that think SFOT and SFFT are soooo close, it's not. i mean, it's not like you can go there in the morning and be back home at night and have ridden everything once (except you rode greezed lightnin' maybe six times because the lines went so fast)...

Due to the extremely high demand for attendance at Astroworld, the park has revised its operating policies and hours for its final weekend ever. http://www.sixflags.com/parks/astroworld/ParkPress/Lastwknd.html -- The park will now be closed on Friday. -- On Saturday and Sunday, the park's new hours are 10 AM to 6 PM; previously it was Noon to 10 PM. -- Only season passes, special invitations (including employees passes at other Six Flags parks), and a very limited number of online tickets will be accepted. No tickets will be sold at the gate -- If and once the park is filled to capacity, the gates will be closed and no one else will be able to gain entry. Anyone planning on going to the park on this final weekend and has the required admission do to so is strongly urged to get to the park as early as possible.
