Scott Addison Clay, a North Carolina native with ties to Myrtle Beach, is working on a documentary about the closing of the Pavilion as well as the evolution of family entertainment in Myrtle Beach and America as a whole. The film is still in the early stages, but a website is up at http://www.becomingattraction.com. There is an about page there where you can read much more about the film. Basically, I wanted to make this thread to get the word out there about the film, and to get some input from people who are big amusement park fans. What would you like to see in a documentary of this nature? Do you think the amusement park as a form of family entertainment in America is on the decline? Would you be willing to lose a traditional park such as the Pavilion if it meant the construction of a new upscale park such as the Hard Rock Park? There is also a live webcam of the former Pavilion site up at the "Becoming Attraction" website. Here is a feature on the film from WPDE Channel 15: http://wpde.com/videoplayer.asp?v=news/~pav Last edited by Vulcan91; 03-27-2007 at 10:00 PM. Reason: . |

Despite how much I don't like losing the Pavilion, if I had to chose between it and Hard Rock Park, I would chose HRP. I don't think it's on the decline, Disney is still devoted to families and Six Flags is turning that way with Mark Shapiro. Universal is also devoted to families, mixing thrills and family rides better than Disney does. The documentary needs to include things showing just how much ride technology has changed, showing old footage of the Coney Island Cyclone and then modern footage of Kingda Ka, just as an example. It also needs to show how amusement parks have become major tourist attractions (really in just recent times), bringing in, as well as spending, millions of dollars each year.
