| | | SFA in danger of going the way of GL? Well the announcements for SFI's 2008 cap ex program were made today & for the 5th season in a row SFA gets the shaft.Nearly every park in the chain will see new attractions in 08 with the exception of SFMM & SFA.
I really think that the writing is on the wall & has been for quite some time that this park is doomed to suffer a fate similar to that of GL.Snyder ONLY bought SFI primarily because of SFA's proximity to fedex field just up the street from the park & hasn't given guests a reason to return since then.Since then four rides have been removed with no replacements for them & now Octopus is in danger of being the next to go.I just can't support SFI's decisions with this park any longer & won't be returning in 2008,as is I probably won't return in october for frightfest either.
Kings dominion will just have to be my new home park from now on(even if it's only a once a year visit)....at least they're getting something next year.SFA will just go by the wayside in the same manner that GL did & the rides will have to be relocated or scrapped because, without new attractions to draw people into the park their attendance is just going to drop like a stone & they'll be forced to close.
Way to go six flags & SFA in particular, you've just lost a loyal customer of ten years with your continuing neglect of this park.If there's going to be any future sales of SF parks then please sell off SFA to PARC,maybe they can fix the mess that SFI has made of this place. |

I agree though that they've let that park go to crap.
I don't get it either.
The DC area is one of the most populated in the country and you'd think it would be a no brainer to invest in that market.
I think your last ride was Blizzard River in 03?

| | | Why on earth would they sell it to another operator when they could get a lot more money with a developer? I'm guessing they are just waiting for the real estate market to heat back up and they will dump it off. So not visiting now is something you may regret in a few years. |

| | | Just curious but what on earth are you guys basing your decisions on when the park will close? Based on the fact that you have never even been on JJ my guess is you aren't exactly local, have any inside information, rarely go to the park, or anything of the sort. Just taking a stab a a random guess for no apparent reason?
Although I cannot comprehend what is going through SFInc's head while they continue to not give SFA ANYTHING new season after season, I don't see the park closing anytime soon, it doesn't make much sense at all that it would. The water park was expanded (its not a coaster or thrill ride, but it is something). And that is clearly one of, if not THE biggest draw to the park. The park brings in quite large crowds especially on nice days in the summer and during Fright Fest. I will never understand why SFA gets such crappy treatment from SFInc. If SFA was treated as well by corporate as SFGAdv it would probably be one of the most successful parks in the chain. The DC market is huge and is relatively untapped because if you gave people the choice of driving 2-3 hours to Kings Dominion while sitting in the traffic on 95, or 3-4 hours to Busch Gardens Europe, or only 30-40 minutes to SFA I believe most would go with SFA if it was actually WORTH going to. I know I'd rather go to KD then SFA, but I continue to go to SFA because if I have a couple hours to kill I can drive out there and get on most if not all the coasters extremely quickly.
I'm especially confused because I remember hearing while working there and from outside sources that SFA was one of corporate's favorite parks that had the most potential. Why they continue to be such complete morons and not make improvements is beyond me.

| | | You're right. I am making a stab in the dark. But give me some indication that SFI is in it for the long haul with SFA. Adding to the waterpark last year doesn't really mean much to me as we've seen with GL. |

| | | ^The waterpark addition was back in 05,not in 06.All we saw in 06 was the removal of the roto-shake & chaos.Python was completely taken off site in the fall of 05 & UT's track was dumped there....I always thought it odd that they knew the coaster ended up getting damaged during the SFAW tear down but shipped it to SFA anyway.
Now the problem with marketing the park lies with SFGRADV,why make cap ex improvements in the form of new rides at SFA when they can throw in a ride at SFGRADV & market it along with SFA in the form of "your season pass can be used for free admission to SFGRADV" type advertising?
I just don't get it,with KD getting dominator from GL & HP announcing their own coaster why isn't SFA doing something to capture a share of the market & prevent the loss of more guests to these competing parks?
Another interesting thing to note is that they didn't include any buy one get one free offers for the go karts this year in the coupon books & the fact that they also did away with midnight express during last years FF,which leads me to believe that the park is on it's last legs & won't be around much longer. |

HUH?!? NONE of the parks competitors even have a coupon book included with their season passes and SFA's coupon book OFTEN contains more discounts than ANY of the other SF parks! If you're going to say that SFA is on its "downfall", at least give a better reason than a lack of ONE coupon in a coupon book!

| | | I would love to see SFA as a viable alternative to BG and KD (although, I like SFA's coaster collection more than KD) but judging from what people say on here and other boards, SFI doesn't want any growth for the park. I mean, if ownership is serious about making SFA a viable option they should have at least brought in a Tony Hawk clone. It would offer something different from the other East Coast SF parks and would be unique for the Mid-Atlantic.
For the record I am going to get a season pass from SFA but when I get it processed will probably be the only day I go to the park. (Hello, first trip to Great Adventure!)
To add to what Batwing said in the original post, nothing was announced for SFKK either (the cynic in me says that whatever was budgeted for 2008 will be used for settlement to the family of that little girl). |

I don't see any of this happening, though. Hopefully in place of a new major attraction the park will get more money to make general improvements in scenery, staffing, and general maintenance so the rides (mostly two face) operate better....
